Just wanna jump in here... The reason why I chose C4Ds this round was because I wanted people to use the C4D in a way that can be recognisable. I honestly wanted people to try out some C4D tutorials:

> http://jimkimjat.deviantart.com/art/C4D-Manip-Sig-Tut-67923253
^just some examples.
Making the C4D so obscurely blurred in the background, or essentially making it invisible for a light source are not the effects I had in mind.
I'm willing to accept the entries prior to this post, but would be happier if people went out of their comfort zone and tried techniques they haven't played with before, as opposed to using the same method to make sigs that they normally do.
The point of the stimulus was that people had to use it. The render was used. The texture was used. The font was used. This round, it seems like people are trying their best to get around making the stimulus recognisable in their signatures.
Hope this post helps anyone who was stuck with an idea for using the C4D stimulus :)

It was aimed at everyone :P I'm not sure where the C4D is in Test's sig either ^^ Maybe I'm missing where the C4D is in your sig? I probably need a red circle drawn around it, because I honestly can't see it.
Thinking creatively is hugely more challenging than mimicking someone else's style. Anyone can follow a tutorial and make something that mimics a style without any real skill. At some point you have to start coming up with the ideas yourself or you'll stop improving.
That being said, I don't think there's anything wrong with following a tutorial to make something in a specific style, but maybe try making that the stimulus so we understand that's what you really want us to do?
Personally, the style of thing I submitted isn't really anything like the other signatures I've chosen to submit in this competition. It uses an entirely different type of image and that meant it required a lot more effort. I've done quite a lot of retouching to the photo already and I will undoubtedly do more before voting starts purely to challenge myself to make it better (because it's FAR from perfect as is).

When I saw that image, the only thing that came to mind was, "That looks like some super form of the bonus boss in FF9."
So, uhm, here's my submission. :D
