They were tying players from streaming anything but LoL, there's a big difference. You have about as much justification for your assumption that this decision was made purely for good publicity as I do that Riot cares about their players. However, pretty much all of Riot's business decisions in the past that I know about have been designed to benefit both them and the community.

You can say they're liars and care about nothing but money and their own company, but that's not what I've seen over the past few years.

I think I just misunderstood your post (and perhaps it was worded a little harshly towards Riot). Of course their goal is to keep their business afloat while satisfying their customers, and it's not like they're unaware of the concept of bad press, but my point was that Riot has a history of serving their playerbase in arguably the best way possible (without endangering their business of course). It just seems like you were saying that they were pidgeonholed into their decision to revise their terms due to bad press, not that they actually gave a **** about the experiences of their players and streamers.

Here's a quote from RiotBaconHawk on the reddit thread I linked. Maybe you'll see what I'm trying to say:
Quoted:
Honestly, when I first heard about and read the leaked contract info, I was struck at how un-Riot it sounded. We had a huge internal discussion amongst probably hundreds of Rioters, and I sensed a strong, common sentiment: from our perspectives as Rioters and with our belief in Player Experience First, this didn't meet our standards--and was therefore not acceptable.

"Player Experience First" means that they do try to do the right thing as much as possible. I don't think Riot got worried about angering their playerbase and therefore losing money, I think Riot realized their players were angry and recognized that they did something wrong. This has been their philosophy as a company since their foundation.
Thanks to Janitsu for the sig!
