i play xerath a lot lately and i don't lose mid lane anymore.
I ve a question though : i aslo pick cleanse 100% of the time
Since cleanse removed ingite (both debuff and damage i beleieve) why not people always pick cleanse since it also removed CC.

I used this build for a long time. Since I was lvl 5 I think. But after messing around abit with items and I think I found items that work better on xer.
For one catalyst is a better item to get then guise and grail as one catalyst has better survivability, it's passive plus xer passive gives all the sustain u need. With runes and masteries u have anoth magic pen that u really don't need guise. And even though xer does grate with CDR he doesn't need it. And when built into roa u have all the survivability xerath could ever need. And in some cases I find that sorcerers shoes are only really useful when there mid laner builds heavy Mr early like an abyss staff. Rest of the time I find boots of swiftness to be better as it gives xerath a lot of extra speed and makes slows less likely to = death. Then I build deathcap void then two high Ap items and I get a little over 700 ap. Also mejas is worth on xer but only if your completely dominating your lane.

Why not a twin shadows ?
I've seen more and more katarina in mid and you do need the extra MS to keep away from her blades
I've also found it usefull against teemo and shaco since shaco WILL come gank you and this teemo like to go invisible O_o

During the laning phase, Mana Surge can sustain a whole lot which makes double/triple Doran's into Cap a viable option although it requires a ton of gold which you usually don't have. Generally I'd rush Athene's but the former option is still acceptable. Anything else isn't.

Alright, I've noticed that everything got out of hand here for no apparent reason, and if you truly want to help the community then I suggest you make the following changes.

Most people go Athenes --> Dcap / Zhonya --> Void on most mages for a reason.

In early game, when you have low kill pressure on each other due to fear of jungler ganks and lack of instant burst, opprtunities to kill seldom arrive, which is why people often choose to go for a component-filled mana +defensive item like Athenes. That's precisely why you don't see people rushing Dcap or another damage ap item - because they cost too much and don't give enough damage for mages to kill people in taht early game. Same applies for Haunting Guise.

Immediately after the mana item, there'll be a downtime where mid lane is almost all about shoving. Athene's and other mana items help with shoving lane and farming because of the sustain they gave. If you buy a Haunting Guide early you'll lose lane severely simply because of the lack of shoving power, leading to a loss of map control. At this time, people choose to go for the bigger items like Needlessly Large Rod because of how quickly you can clear waves and roam / farm. Without Athene's this is hard to get to, and if enemies abuse your quick Haunting Guise rush, you'll be set behind greatly.

After this is when enemy junglers and top laners start to build up MR, which is why Void staff helps to further increase your burst damage. If I followed your build, granted that I survived the shoving part and got my core items, I'd face a severe lack of damage output if they noticed I was going for a mana item which I was needing for a long time.

Athenes into NLR is probably the optimal way to play mid right now, and I don't recommend you stray from it unless you can clearly negate the tradeoffs.

Also, please don't build RoA. RoA is only good on champs who focus on farming mid game, not champs who want to burst the enemy down quickly... Mages like Xerath don't need RoA's tankiness at all.

Fix your skill order too please.. There's absolutely no reason to not max one ability first. At most, people go 2 points in one spell then max the other, like Leblanc (2Q then W max), and even so, xerath relies on his Q heavily...

That, I'll agree with! :)

This.

You are welcome to disagree with anyone, Relentless Logic, but not by resorting to unnecessary personal attacks. Focus on the guide and its contents. If you guys want to talk more about the definition of certain words, use the PM system.

Relentless Logic,

For someone with logic in his name that comment sure didn't have any. You throw out personal insults at an unbelievable rate, something that has no place within a logical discussion. You then imply that an opinion or an explanation cannot be wrong, which is obviously ********. Is STeeDofDooM entitled to his opinion and explanation of Xerath? Absolutely, but GMD and Sirell are also 100% entitled to express their opinion by telling him he's wrong. Don't be a hypocrite and don't insult people for no reason.

Regards,
Luther

P.S.

So condescending I wanted to vomit. GMD has been playing Xerath for years and has probably hundreds of games on him in platinum.

It wasn't, not everything is an attack. Believe it or not, this guide was designed to Help and not Hinder the community!
