Hey, I've got an idea. How about making an RPG that doesn't rely on chance in the least?
Not a single element of chance. Think you're up for the challenge?
I'll be trying that myself later, if I manage to get into RPG maker.
That would definitely make for an interesting challenge, I support that.
@topic: Bought RPG Maker myself because of the bundle although I have worked with it before. I mostly like the program because it's a solid engine for small projects, similar to Game Maker; which I've used for many years. I'd like to help with your project in any way I can; also because I am working on a much bigger project myself.

Considering something like this:

Not exactly the same of course lol. Would be awkward main story where main character goes around black markets buying red eyes.
Could make a cutscene introduction like this, where there is only a solo survivor (with fitting images and text in stead of actual movie). Giving it some thoughts more. Planning to have some kind of base storyline at the end of the week. Would start creating this next week if not little earlier.
Spoiler: Click to view
Cool to see some other project-like action with the same program. Propably going to need help more or less along the way.

If you want to do it without any chance perhaps you can base enemy spawning off Dark Soul's(and probably many others) system. Predefined monsters and locations and they respawn when you rest. I can imagine it ending up as a balancing nightmare though.
********'s a pretty good fertilizer

Well, sure, if there needs to be respawning enemies at all.
DS 2 also had limited amounts of respawns by the way. So after killing something like 20 times it disappears.
But I honestly don't think there is any need for respawning enemies.
A better idea would be to place new enemies in often traversed areas from time to time.

Yep that's way better, makes more sense too (unless you wanna go all Doom Nightmare on this one).

I've actually played an RPGMaker game that worked like that. It was actually pretty nice. And if you needed to grind, which you really didn't have to, there were areas where you could pay to get AP, or whatever their EXP/job system was. It was a battle, so if you won you got your money back, plus some. You could always do something like that.

Basic plot / beginning would look something like:
1. You get flashy introduction with "Joxuu production: "Game name" and propably a logo
2. Cutscene with music explaining the background story with images and text where the game starts.
"Awesome background story in short"
-Main chracter is from well known clan/tribe who live peacefully and are known to be exceptionally strong. Evil kingdom of Teemolandia however raid the clan for refusing to fall under their command and everyone is killed except the main character who barely escapes. He/she faints deeply wounded as travelers finally founds the main character and brings him/her to the inn.
3. Game starts most likely here where the main character wakes up wounded in the Inn.
4. Some kind of continuation that is yet to come.
Main character somewhat figured out. This is the best I've got atm unless something else comes up.
Few other ideas besides this. Deciding upon this hopefully soon.

I like to write stories. Anyway, I think you can only get a name if you are sure what kind of story you want first.
Enjoy!
