Avoid taking big trades, try to not get hit by many of his qs. Only thing you can really do is run from him, but that should be no problem with phase rush and passive, go for EW(root) and then either auto or q to zoom away from him. You should just shove waves and ignore him eventually.
Ahri
You can rush tear into mercs in this matchup which makes it much more forgiving. At its core, you will need to dodge her charm and look to outplay her that way, but if you get hit by it constantly, she will over and over. Take cleanse instead of tp if you're not confident about being able to dodge her cc.
Akali
You punish her in the early levels, after that it's really doomed. Cant cc her consistently because even if you flux her with E, you wont have enough time to cast W and root her in your minion wave. Try and dodge her honestly, shoving and scaling is your best bet.
Anivia
Impossible lane. Outshoves you at 6, out damages you, can zone you from literally anything with wall/q/ult since it all outranges you and she also locks you down, meaning you basically cant even walk away without taking half your hp(or more). Rush mercs and become a believer honestly, this matchup is very hard.
Annie
She does outrange you and can be a problem early. Should be of no problem once you have some items in your belt. Can become annoying in later fights if she keeps stunning you, can look to itemize into banshee if so.
Aurelion Sol
idk this champ will just coinflip the entire early game and outshove you and pressure side lanes. if your team survives and you manage to not be massively behind by 20 minutes, you just win, it just depends on circumstance and how rest of enemy team operates.
Azir
Azir's early laning is surprisingly good, pair that up with the fact he outranges you and it makes a bit tricky to navegate in the early levels. with that being said, you can probably match his shove at 6 and look for roams with realm warp. do NOT try to outscale him, he will be massively more useful in teamfights.
Brand
Good amount of early damage, can be a bit dodgy if you get hit by a lot of his abilities in the first few levels. but as a lot of matchups, you can get mercs and not really lose anything, which makes it a lot easier. idk, havent really played it in a while
Camille
Haven't really played this matchup, but logic should be to root her in your minion wave every time she goes to trade since she has to commit herself even in smaller trades. harder to sidelane vs than most champs though
Cassiopeia
Basically anivia, except she's actually a lot stronger and it's actually just tilting me thinking about how long she's been like this. she's a better version of ryze in a lot of cases(not all), idk what else to say. potentially ban her
Cho'Gath
melee champion, just look to dodge rupture and you are good to go. wouldn't recommend poking him, as his passive will just heal him back up to full, but you can def just shove for free and scale
Corki
i personally think this champion is beyond dogshit, BUT he can prove to be a menace if he's one of those little bitches who decide to go hexdrinker first item into you. he can also do small trades fairly well, so just look to shove lane and roam around the map, he will probably match you once or twice with package, but shouldnt really be a problem most of the time
Diana
try to root her in your minion wave and pray. this champion needs hard nerfs, you cannot play vs her at any point in the game(especially in sidelane). would recommend banning as well
Ekko
although this champ is very unbalanced in the jungle, it's actually very manageable in mid and it just happens that it's been one of the ryze's easiest matchups since forever. early trades are free if you root him since he cant just zoom away with passive and actually takes meaningful damage, your EW just fucks him in general since he cant even ult while he's cced. Can prove to be a threat later on in sidelane, but you have the edge through the majority of the game
Fizz
not ban worthy but I personally think this matchup is very annoying to play. as vs most melee champs you can harass him decently on the first levels. at 3 he can start doing more extended trades and actually kill you since you cant root him fast enough sometimes once he goes untargettable. you can also cast realm warp right as the shark(his ult) hits you to become untargettable during the actual ability, requires a bit timing and is quite inconsistent(since your ult has 3.5min cd rank 1), but it's a nice trick to keep in mind.
Galio
honestly since riot removed flash + w this champion is just very underwhelming. sure he can be annoying sometimes and tank a lot of your dmg with his reduction and potentially even out trade you early, but you can play around it 99% of the time and scale for free. much bigger issue when it comes to teamfights, maybe look to get banshee. also mercs help.
Gangplank
there's a reason ryze was picked into gp almost every time at worlds. yes he can orange your root, but honestly you can just spam harass on him until he's dead or is forced to back, very easy lane to play. virtually no gank setup is also something worth to keep in mind, except when he gets his ult, which honestly shouldnt be a problem.
Irelia
do. not. fight. her. if she lands one E, you're dead. if she gets even slightly ahead, she can rush mercs and your life is just misery at that point, she can literally dive you from almost full hp at 6. play very very safe and take bad backs if it means not dying, this champ will just snowball out of control(although decently hard to pilot at a good level).
Kassadin
honestly cant say that much since he's been my perma ban since season 10 started pretty much, but I imagine he still takes 0 dmg from all your abilities early(especially after the nerfs) and can just all in you at level 6 or 9 and beat you every time. would recommend banning as well, but you can only ban one champ so...
Katarina
this matchup should NOT be an issue whatsoever, she has a very weak laning phase, weak early levels and is actually very easy to setup ganks vs and set behind. the problem comes from when she roams around the map and gets ahead through other means. in those cases you usually cant deal with her(as your root doesnt stop her ult) and she just becomes impossible to fight. will probably lower her threat level once she gets nerfed, honestly think she's just overtuned atm.
Kayle
she wants to scale, you want to scale. except you get stronger a lot faster and have a lot of ways to help your team snowball. look to poke her while she's melee, just shove her endlessly once she becomes ranged or look for small trades, never take extended trades
LeBlanc
leblanc used to be a decently easy matchup back when ryze had shields and/or people ran aftershock on him. that is no longer the case so this matchup got a whole lot harder. she has a lot of early kill threat and can also 100-0 you after 6 if you're not careful. catalyst + mercs should be your early buys, try to survive, but this lane is not impossible and can be turned around eventually
Lissandra
ever since the q cd nerf at early ranks this champ has been dog, really have no clue what you're supposed to do if you're the lissandra but in any case, you just win at every point in the game. maybe take cleanse if she has jg with cc or just early game jg in general, since she can easily set up ganks
Lucian
can't say i've played this matchup a lot, but from general experience against lucian mid and watching vods, he should just beat you to the ground early. may need to itemize seekers early which kinda sucks, but if you survive and get some items, he becomes a lot easier to deal with because of his low range
Lux
dodge her Q, you're good to go. it will be annoying to deal with her E but the most important thing is you dont get hit by Q, since she can 80-0 at 6 if she hits one i'm pretty sure. should be fairly easy to play out all things considered
Malzahar
slightly stronger version of lissandra(matchup-wise), used to be really annoying with his cancer puppies but since your flux auto-spreads on first cast, it's a lot easier to clear them and if you get rid of them he's a piece of cake. unlike lissandra, do NOT get cleanse as it will do nothing, but beware of his gank setup with R.
Neeko
can be a bit annoying if she sneaks a couple Es in lane and lands good dmg on you, but ryze can just dodge most of her stuff later on and outscale her. also phase rush is extremely useful vs glacial, which is what most neekos run.
Orianna
outranges you, outpokes you early and scales very hard as well. this is just a hard lane to play, it's not impossible by any means, since you can still setup ganks and do well into her later on, just a pain to play out early.
Pantheon
I put this as even, but it honestly can go from tiny to extreme, this is a coinflip champ, it can literally only function if it gets an early lead. with that being said, he can make your life hell if his jungler ganks for him early, or he gets an early kill+assist on some dumb roam and can just keep killing you over and over. if all goes normal early and the game doesnt go out of control, you can get seekers into catalyst and just out trade him, out shove and out scale him at 15 minutes which is the most important
Pyke
if you lose lane, this champion will never be the reason. it will either be because his jg+support came or he got some random roam off while 60 cs behind and is now suddenly ahead of you. wouldnt worry too much, if the enemy isnt skilled and cant close out the game, this champ just falls off a cliff(this also applies if he gets behind)
Qiyana
used to be a lot harder before her q got nerfed in the early ranks, now you can actually lane into her until you get some armor. do not underestimate her all in though, as she will kill if you disrespect and dont get armor or hang around on low hp. will be a menace in teamfights, as this champ can 0/20 and still provide decent utility and dmg and can obviously flip some roams and turn the game on its own. all this considered, should not be able to fight you one on one once you get some items
Rumble
dont have much personal experience on the matchup, but rumble usually just takes 0 dmg so dont even bother using your precious mana on him early, he will also shove very fast and look for plays around the map so it all comes down to if they work or not. you outscale him hard and can out trade at 1 item.
Swain
one of the most dogshit champions in the game, I feel sorry for any guy that plays lane swain in 2020, but if you face one of these mole people, remind them why they should never lock in this joke of a champion. he can impact teamfights mid game but you still win at every point in the game. be happy if you see a swain on enemy team.
Sylas
like camille, he needs to get into melee range to trade with you. yes his heal can be annoying with some levels but it also costs a shit ton of mana, make him regret taking every threat since you can just make him take more dmg than he does to you(yes, even after healing). he's also paper and cannot play the game first few levels so look to abuse him every time he goes for a cs.
Syndra
one of the top meta mid champions, S+++ tier after half a year, out ranges you, out damages you, etc
not really much you can dodge either since she can easily burst you with a couple of Qs and ult(even with mercs). look to buy mercs early, get banshees if she keeps hitting stuns on you. also get catalyst fairly early as well since every bit of hp helps
Taliyah
I don't consider this champ very good nowadays, especially mid, but she can out trade you fairly easily and pressure your side lanes early. you outscale heavily, just look to play safe and take low risks
Talon
Hard but not impossible. It used to be really easy to punish talon in lane, now without shields and low base armor, you find yourself having to take much less trades. however, rush seekers and transition into your build without dying and all will be well. there are still some roams he can get off but you should be able to shove him in 90% of the time(after level 5). look to group with your team if he's getting out of control, one EW and he should be dead
Twisted Fate
can pressure you early and take over the game but honestly he's not much of a threat 1v1, also you can take over the game yourself if the matchup flips a bit on your side since you will have perma prio and by the time sidelaning comes into effect, you will be vastly more useful(assuming his team didnt snowball hard early)
Veigar
personally one of the matchups I hate the most, this champ will just farm and there's virtually nothing you can do about it. he also screws you really hard in teamfights, generally a pain to play against. can be heavily shut down if your jg comes mid with your root off cd, as his early game is extremely abusable
Vel'Koz
read xerath matchup but basically he's that but much much worse since he can actually threat a kill at 6 and he can farm much safely without losing mana
Viktor
shouldnt threathen you out of lane early as he is also quite weak, but he will outrange you. this matchup is a farm fest, you will both look to scale, not much to say here
Vladimir
90% of the time this matchup should be free, but on the off chance vlad gets a lead and starts snowballing with ignite, it can be hard for ryze to keep in the sidelane. this champion is also obviously a monster in teamfights compared to ryze, so worth keeping that in mind as well. you can bully him pretty reliably once you get your first back and just put him on the back foot as he cant keep up with your shove from then on, just be careful of any cheesy all in with ignite and you should be fine.
Xerath
if you dodge all his skillshots in the early stages, you will find this matchup to be pretty smooth for you, but in case the enemy has hands this wont happen very often. he perma outranges you, nothing you can really do about it since you need to massively outplay to kill him or do any meaningful dmg at all. with that being said, you shouldnt be afraid of dying, assuming you dont get hit by everything. as much as it sucks to hear, this matchup is honestly very coinflip, you either dodge his stuff and are a happy smurf or you get hit and feel miserable through whole laning phase. can look to pressure with jg since he is immobile.
Yasuo
can ignore all your poke without much effort and stomp you early. if he has hands he can also windwall most of ur dmg and your root actually requires you to hit E on him so it's not as free to lock him down in a tough scenario or a skirmish
