With the new changes to Moonstone Renewer in 13.10, the item has INSANE synergy with Shen's R, Stand United. Moonstone Renewer's chain heal/shield applies to Stand United effectively increasing his shield by 25% to 35% depending on the situation. Using healing amplication like heal & shield power from support items like Redemption and Mikael's Blessing, Shen becomes a monster shielder that makes for hilarious numbers.

Season 14 has seen many changes in the item system, many of which can benefit Shen and Shenport to be exact. Redemption and Locket of the Iron Solari are both stackable on top of Moonstone Renewer, resulting in shielding levels never seen before.
