[15.02] Jinx Guide by misterfirstblood v2

By misterfirstblood
Introduction
Hello guys, it's me Misterfirstblood from EUW. Today, I want to show you how to play Jinx.

Jinx is a very unique AD Carry because of her Q ability, Switcheroo!, which allows her to swap between her two weapons - minigun and rocket launcher. The minigun provides additional attack speed, stacking up to 3 times (90% in late game), while the rocket launcher allows her to hit multiple targets with increased damage (10%) and range. Knowing when to use which weapon is crucial when playing Jinx.

She also gains a lot of movement speed and attack speed every time she gets an assist/kill or destroys a tower/inhibitor, thanks to her passive, Get Excited!.

Her W ability, Zap!, deals damage to the first target it hits and slows them.

With her E ability, Flame Chompers!, Jinx places 3 chompers that root enemies and deal magic damage if they come into contact with them.

Her ultimate, Super Mega Death Rocket!, is a global execute ability that gains additional damage as it travels across the map.
Runes
Lethal Tempo seems to be the best option since it's finally back in the game. The other outstanding runes haven't really changed for months, so my recommendation remains Presence of Mind, Coup de Grace, and Legend: Bloodline.

For the secondary tree, I really like to optimize Jinx's damage output in the later stages of the game. The Sorcery tree offers two great options for this: Gathering Storm and Absolute Focus.

If you prefer safer gameplay and laning, you can go for the Inspiration tree and choose Biscuit Delivery and Magical Footwear instead.
Itemization
You can either start with Kraken Slayer or Infinity Edge, but Infinity Edge should be one of your first two items. The next best options for maximizing damage output are Phantom Dancer, Runaan's Hurricane, and Lord Dominik's Regards.

For survivability reasons, you can buy items like Mercurial Scimitar, Bloodthirster, or Immortal Shieldbow, depending on your needs.
Abilities
P: Get Excited!
Jinx receives massively increased Move Speed and Attack Speed whenever she helps kill or destroy an enemy champions epic jungle monster, or structure.

Q: Switcheroo!
Jinx modifies her basic attacks by swapping between Pow-Pow, her minigun and Fishbones, her rocket launcher. Attacks with Pow-Pow grant Attack Speed, while attacks with Fishbones deal area of effect damage, gain increased range, but drain Mana and attack slower.

W: Zap!
Jinx uses Zapper, her shock pistol, to fire a blast that deals damage to the first enemy hit, slowing and revealing it.

E: Flame Chompers!
Jinx throws out a line of snare grenades that explode after 5 seconds, lighting enemies on fire. Flame Chompers will bite enemy champions who walk over them, rooting them in place.

R: Super Mega Death Rocket!
Jinx fires a super rocket across the map that gains damage as it travels. The rocket will explode upon colliding with an enemy champion, dealing damage to it and surrounding enemies based on their missing Health.
Laning
Jinx's laning phase is better than Kog'Maw's but not as strong as Caitlyn or Draven. You don't have the biggest poke or range advantages early on, so focus on farming. Farming is very easy with Jinx because of her attack speed, allowing her to farm under the tower. If there are many minions on low health, swap to the rocket launcher and clear them.

After finishing Runaan's Hurricane and a B. F. Sword, you can start trading with your enemies and initiating fights. Try to end the laning phase after acquiring these two items.
Trading
When trading 1v1 or 2v2, avoid using the rocket launcher. The minigun has much better DPS. Only use the rocket launcher if your enemy is out of range or if you want to land the first hit in trades.

Also, avoid using your W Zap! in fights because it's easy to dodge and you could deal more damage with auto-attacking.

You can initiate fights with your Flame Chompers!. When enemies get caught, you can deal a lot of damage to them and stack fervor and your minigun before they can move again. If they try to run away, use your W Zap! to slow and damage them, and secure the kill with your ultimate.
Tipps & Tricks
- If you see the jungler coming, try to finish a turret or decide to kill an enemy to get the movement speed buff. Sometimes it will help you to escape or turn fights. When there is no escape anyway, try to get something from the situation.

- If you last-hit creeps that are near to enemies, swap to your rocket launcher and deal free damage without missing CS.

- Wait for cooldowns like Braum's shield or Sivir's spell shield before ulting them to ensure you get the kill.

- Always watch the map. A recall takes 8 seconds, so if you know where your enemy is recalling, you can try to execute the enemy top or mid laner too. Farsight Alteration will also help you.

- When you see a Teleport coming, place some traps under its destination to catch the enemy instantly and aim your W to their direction to CC them as much as possible.

- If you aren't sure if you can land your ultimate Super Mega Death Rocket!, slow your enemy first with your W Zap! ability.

- Red buff. If your attack speed is good enough, you can kite your enemies with rocket launcher + Runaan's Hurricane + red buff and deal massive damage to multiple targets. I don't know why, but red buff feels stronger on Jinx than on other champs.

- You can steal dragons, Baron, or Herald with your ultimate when you hit a nearby enemy.

- You can check brushes with W Zap! and E Flame Chompers! so you don't have to facecheck them. You can also hit invisible targets with both.

- Because you don't have any mobility spells, the most important mechanic you need with Jinx is sidestepping. You can avoid a lot of damage or even ruin ganks by sidestepping the CC/gapcloser abilities. Also, try to increase your APM (actions per minute) by clicking near the champion. This will make it harder for your enemies to land skillshots.

I don't want you to be greedy or anything, but in the late game, I'm often very aggressive after getting a "reset" in a teamfight (I know it's not a real reset, but it's a similar situation to when Katarina gets a kill). Many people try to run away from Jinx when she's on a rampage, so try to land as many auto attacks as possible to get another. When chasing, try to sidestep bindings and hooks. It isn't easy to kite with such high movement speed. Of course, you shouldn't do this when you're far behind, but a good Jinx player needs to be a bit greedy.
Advantages/Disadvantages
Advantages
+ Attack speed steroid
+ "Resets"
+ Global Ult
+ Lots of AoE
+ CC to protect yourself
+ Lategame scaling
+ Teamfight Monster

Disadvantages
- No escape (dash/jump)
- Weak earlygame
- Weak when behind
- Needs items to be strong
- Not a duelist
Jinx is good with
+ Tanks with CC ( Braum, Leona, Thresh) because she deals a lot of damage when she can just stand there and shoot while the enemy is CC'ed.
+ Supporters who can save Jinx ( Bard, Karma, Morgana, Lulu, Thresh) because she has no escape ability.
+ Poke supporters ( Brand, Zyra) because this improves her weak laning phase and makes it easier to get kills. Remember that your other teammates have to peel for you if the support isn't able to do this.
Jinx is good against
+ Other weak early game champs like Tristana, Ashe, or Aphelios
+ Squishy champs without escape like Vel'Koz or Varus because she can chase them down in the late game
Jinx is bad against
+ Early strong champs like Lucian, Draven, and Kalista
+ Hard CC like Malphite, Nautilus, and Malzahar because of her lack of mobility
+ Assassins like Zed can easily kill Jinx because she doesn't have much outplay potential in 1v1
Summary and other guides
Jinx is an incredibly powerful hypercarry, especially if you reach the late game. In teamfights, she can be a game-changer, dishing out immense damage with her abilities and auto attacks. When the team peels for her and provides adequate protection, Jinx becomes one of the strongest late-game AD carries in League of Legends, particularly with her recent buffs that have further enhanced her strength.

One of the standout aspects of Jinx's kit is her ability to snowball in teamfights. Her passive, Get Excited!, grants her a significant boost in movement and attack speed whenever she participates in a kill or destroys a turret. This allows her to quickly reposition and continue dealing damage, making her a formidable threat in extended engagements.

However, Jinx has a relatively weak early game and lacks inherent mobility. This makes her vulnerable to aggressive opponents and ganks. It's crucial for Jinx players to understand when and how to play defensively during the early game to avoid falling behind. Positioning is key, and knowing when to use her Q, Switcheroo!, to switch between Pow-Pow, the Minigun, and Fishbones, the Rocket Launcher, can greatly influence her effectiveness in different situations.

Additionally, managing her abilities and understanding her damage output is essential. Diving too deep or chasing enemies without proper knowledge of her limits can result in punishments and setbacks. It takes practice to master the intricacies of her kit, but once you do, Jinx can carry games very effectively. Her ultimate, Super Mega Death Rocket!, provides excellent long-range execution potential and can turn the tide of fights or secure kills from afar.

Despite her early-game weaknesses, Jinx's late-game scaling and teamfight presence make her a highly rewarding champion to play. With practice and dedication, she can dominate games and lead her team to victory. Whether it's melting through tanks with her sustained damage or executing low-health targets with her ultimate, Jinx offers a dynamic and exciting playstyle that many players find enjoyable.
