Avoid trading after first back. If they hit you with their first or second Q, they can run you down early if the W hits and pulls you.
If you have to trade, try and at least dodge the ends of his first 2 Q's while trading to avoid his knock-ups. Don't extended trade with him until you can all in him.
Ideally you want to wait for jungle assistance and have ignite to all in, if you start to lose this match up it can become unplayable.
Akali
Look for trades early but try not to fight in her W shroud. Avoid fighting her if she starts building armor items, her base damage is high and she will begin to out trade you.
Ambessa
Try to trade at lvl 2, afterwards avoid trading entirely. You will likely lose every trade going forward
At lvl 3 she has 3 dashes to dodge your W and gains a shield that will mitigate most of your damage.
Try and push the wave and shove her under tower, if she dashes toward you, don't trade just throw Rake at her and walk away.
Avoid all in post 6, unless your Jungler is there.
Camille
Watch out for her E, do not fight her until you get jungle assistance or you are ahead enough to kill her.
She has very high upfront damage and can easily beat you in trades early with her passive and Q damage.
Be sure you can win the all in post 6, otherwise she will lock you down with her ult and likely kill you.
Cho'Gath
Avoid extended trades early if their E is up or they may out sustain and win the trade.
Careful going all in on them after they get an item, they can burst you to low HP with a full combo and possibly kill you with ult.
Darius
Avoid trading after lvl 2 unless you are very familiar with the match-up, otherwise you will likely lose every trade after. When you fight him, stay inside the inner part of his Q to reduce his healing and hemorrhage stacks.
Post 6 you can look to kill with ignite if he's around 60% hp and you're not behind. Otherwise wait for jungle assistance.
Dr. Mundo
Avoid his Q poke and Look to trade in lane early when possible, you can also shove him in and roam since it will be difficult for him to stop your shove early.
Post 6 wait for jungle assistance to all in, if your ahead enough you can look to all in yourself in you have ignite up and he's around 25% HP. Otherwise do not fight him 1v1 unless you can wait his ult out.
Fiora
Only trade if she dashes toward you so you hit both W stacks easier, if you trade you can try and cancel your auto after Q to bait out her W to proc passive easier;
Otherwise you will likely lose the trade, be sure to get her to use W before trying to all in and have ignite up for her healing.
Be careful, if Fiora gets ahead the match-up can swing heavily in her favor.
Gangplank
Play in the bushes to avoid his Q poke, use the bushes to poke with W. Try to wait for him to use W before you ignite so he doesn't cleanse it.
Most likely Gangplank will play in his barrels during lane phase, you will probably have to farm with W while waiting for the wave to push to you to avoid them.
Garen
Do not trade with Garen unless his E is down; otherwise shove him under tower and roam when possible.
Don't fight him post 6 unless you can burst him, if he's ahead and his Q connects you will probably die before the silences ends if his ult is up.
Be careful, if Garen gets ahead the match-up can swing heavily in his favor.
Gnar
Avoid his Q poke and shove him under tower, watch the bar under his health and avoid trading when its near full.
Only try and all in if you can catch him in Mini Gnar, he will likely be too tanky to kill in Mega Gnar and he could combo cc and kill you with his ult post 6.
Gragas
Gragas has decent trade damage early, so only look to trade when they engage on you with their E. but be careful trading if he starts building full AP.
Careful trying to dash to him with Q, he can cancel your passive stack by knocking you up mid Q dash with their E.
Gwen
Look to trade early, but once she begin putting levels in her Q then only trade if her Q is down;
Otherwise you will probably lose the trade. Careful using W at range or she may dodge it with her E dash.
If possible try to bait her W before committing to a trade, she could use W to dodge your W passive stacks at range.
As long as you're not behind you should be able to win an all in post 6, Be sure to have ignite up as she heals a fair amount with her passive.
Heimerdinger
Don't jump on him unless his E is down or you dodge it, otherwise if he hits you with any part of his E with turrets around him;
He could burst you down and potentially kill you before you can fight back or even after your combo if you don't burst him.
Otherwise farm and wait for a jungle gank, he will almost certainly die as long as your Jungler has some cc and damage and he doesn't hit you both with E.
Illaoi
Do not get hit by her E at all cost, it will grant her true sight and you will have a hard time dodging her abilities post 6 and take a ton of damage during laning phase.
If you all in after 6 use your ult move speed to dodge her tentacles when she ults then combo her afterwards if she is low enough to one shot.
Avoid trying to all in unless you have ignite up to negate her healing or she may out sustain your damage and kill you.
Irelia
Try to trade when she has no minions to get her passive stacks on, you can try and bait her W by canceling your auto after Q.
Do not fight her when all 4 of her are stacks on as that will give her very high early damage.
Ideally you want to wait for jungle assistance and have ignite to all in, if you start to lose this match up it can become unplayable.
Jayce
Avoid his Q poke, trade whenever possible but do not lose more than 1 all in or it will be very hard to fight him afterwards.
Jax
Avoid trading unless his E is down. If he jumps on you and uses E, throw W and walk away then combo after the E ends.
Do not auto attack fight him after unless you can kill. If you try and all in post 6, try to use your ult to dodge his E stun then combo.
Kayle
Walk past the wave and zone her from getting cs, avoid Q and E poke while poking with W and looking for trades.
Post 6 try and get her to use her ult first, this should guarantee the kill after her ults ends.
Kennen
Avoid his Q poke and shove them under tower.
If they miss Q you can try and trade since it will be tougher for them to get their stun off.
Generally you should shove them under tower and roam, it will be tough to trade since they are ranged and can easily disengage with their E.
Wait for your Jungler before you all in, it will be tough to run them down alone with their E and stun.
K'Sante
Avoid trading after lvl 2, you will likely lose every trade after. The shielding and damage reduction from W along with the shielding from his E will make him take low damage.
He can stick to you very well with his Q and W as it has cc along with his E dash. They will probably out damage you post 6 if they ult you so use your ult to disengage if you're ulted by them.
Sett
Avoid trading after lvl 2, you will likely lose every trade after. Be careful as you may lose the trade at lvl 2 if he takes W 2nd.
Wait for jungle assistance to all in, you can try to use your ult move speed to dodge his W by walking beside or behind him if he ults you first.
Although if he uses his W immediately after ult it will be tough to dodge.
Kled
Don't get hooked by his Q, you can look to trade when his W is down. If possible try to hold your ult until you dismount him, as it should guarantee the kill after.
Malphite
Look to trade early, but stop after they get a health/ability power component.
Try and hard shove him under tower, you can use the bushes to help negate his Q poke damage.
His Q has high base damage and he will try to whittle you down over time then look to all in with ult.
Maokai
Look to trade early but don't trade after he gets HP or Armor items, he has high base Q damage and will probably trade harder. At this point shove them under tower and roam.
Mordekaiser
Wait for him to use Q on the wave or dodge it then look to trade, do not fight him after 6 unless you are sure to kill him.
His ult makes him very hard to fight 1v1 and can cut off your escapes.
Nasus
Don't push the wave and zone him from cs, let it slowly push in then roam when he's under tower.
Don't all in him unless you are sure you can kill through his ult or it's on cool down, otherwise wait for jungle assistance.
His ult makes him very tanky and he will run you down with his W.
Olaf
Only trade if he misses Q. If his Q hits you, throw W and walk away. He can run you down with his Q slows if he hits them consecutively.
Try to get him to ult first post 6 and have ignite up for all in.
You can wait out the majority of his ult in yours as he can't extend his since you're unable to be auto attacked in your stealth.
Ornn
Look to trade if he uses his spells on the wave, his base damage for trades is really high.
Pantheon
Avoid trading after they get item components, Pantheon does a lot of early damage once they get them and they have high armor scaling.
From level 1 to 5, avoid his Q poke. Try to bait his E by canceling your auto after Q, or wait until it's down so he doesn't negate your passive damage.
Do not trade if they have all their stack as you will probably lose the trade.
Poppy
Wait for her to use shield then walk up to melee range to trade, do not dash to her with Q unless her W is down.
Otherwise she will knock you up with W and cancel your Q damage and the passive stack resulting in a losing trade.
Quinn
Avoid trading and shove her under tower. look to all in post 6, as long as you dodger her W she can't do much to stop your engage.
Renekton
Avoid trading after lvl 2, when he gets stun you will likely lose every trade going forward.
Wait for jungle assistance and be sure to have ignite up if it's post 6 for his healing. Careful if your low and they have flash-ignite up.
Rengar
(Off Meta Match-up)
Rengar will try to play in the bushes so play across from the bushes by the river so he can't jump out on you, then poke him with rake when he jumps out on minions.
If you get 2 passive stacks you can look to trade next time he jumps out. Alternatively you can shove the wave under his tower and deny the bushes from him.
Riven
Only trade if she jumps on you, so you can get your full melee damage combo then back off.
Wait for your Jungler before you all post 6, ideally you also have ignite up.
Riven has very high up front damage post 6, she can shield your burst and can lock you down with her stun and 1 shot you in a 1v1.
Be careful, if Riven gets ahead the match-up can swing heavily in her favor.
Rumble
Avoid his poke from E, If he uses his Q on the wave you can look for a trade as that's most of his damage early.
Careful during all in if he enters 50% heat and uses Q as he may out damage you.
Ryze
Try and trade after he uses abilities on the wave, look to all in post 6 as he can't do much to stop your engage.
Shen
Avoid trading after he gets W, he will almost always out trade you if it's up.
Wait for your Jungler before you all in. Be careful roaming after he gets ult as he can follow you easily to any fight with his ult if it's up.
Singed
Look for trades whenever possible, wait until your return W hits him before dashing in with your Q.
Otherwise he could flip you and the return W will miss and not apply the 2nd passive stack. Don't try and fight post 6 if he ults, he will outpace you and whittle you down with poison.
Sion
Avoid trading unless he uses Q, watch out for his ult post 6. He could full combo you and kill you before you can fight back if he builds damage.
Tahm Kench
Dodge their Q or play in the minions while trading.
If he tries to W on you, try to dodge it as well as his follow up Q. Then look to trade after as you should win.
Teemo
Watch trading early when his Q is up, he can blind you and negate your passive damage.
Look to all in him after 6 but make sure you can one shot him or he may be able to kill you before his Q blind ends.
Trundle
Look to trade only if you can have a wall to escape afterwards or he can run you down early.
If he uses his E you can use it to jump over and escape after your combo, do not auto attack fight him unless you can kill.
Tryndamere
Avoid fighting him at level 1, he will probably out damage you with his early critical strikes.
After level 1, trade if he dashes toward you; Combo him and walk away, do not auto attack fight him after unless you can kill.
If you fight him 1v1, ideally you get him ult first. If you get their ult first, the kill should be guaranteed.
Be careful, if Tryndamere gets ahead the match-up can swing heavily in his favor.
Udyr
(Off Meta Match-Up)
Look for trades early when able, avoid trading and roam after he starts building tank components as he will begin to out trade you.
Otherwise wait for your Jungler and have ignite up to counter his healing when looking to all in.
Urgot
Avoid his Q poke, If he hits Q the slow can open him up to hit and E and possibly kill you after. You can use the bushes to help avoid his Q.
Only trade early if he misses E or you dodge it, otherwise poke him down with W and wait for your jungler.
Varus
Avoid trading, shove them under tower and roam.
Wait for your Jungler to all in post 6 unless they are about 60% hp or their ult is down.
Vayne
(Off Meta Match-up)
Wait for her to tumble toward you so you can hit both parts of your W, whittle her down this way and look to all in post 6.
Avoid trying to trade before 6 if she has E up or she will push you away; out trade and potentially run you down.
Make sure to have ignite up to help secure the kill during post 6 all ins. Otherwise try and shove her in and roam and wait for a jungle gank.
Volibear
Avoid trading after level 2, do not fight in his E, if you fight him, wait for the shield to drop then combo him.
Wait until you get jungle assistance to all in post 6.
Volibear has lots of healing in his kit and usually builds health items, it is tough to kill him in a 1v1 even if you are ahead with ignite.
Warwick
Look to trade but do not auto attack fight him unless you can kill him. If you all in him, make sure to have ignite up or he will more than likely out heal your damage.
Try to wait until he is around 1/2 HP before you use ignite or he may survive the duration of the heal cut.
Be careful, if Warwick gets ahead the match-up can swing heavily in his favor.
Wukong
Avoid trading unless they dash to you. Auto Q auto, use W then walk away. By this point they will likely use their clone and make it tough to get passive on them.
Xin Zhao
(Off Meta Match-up)
Trade before lvl 3, only trade after if he jumps on you.
Post 6 with ignite up to counter his healing you should be able to 1v1 him if you are not behind. Otherwise wait for your jungler.
Yorick
Dodge his E then go in for a trade early as you should win, his mist walkers can do a fair amount of damage early if you ignore them while trading.
Zaahen
You can trade early, but after first Item it would be best to shove and roam.
He can stick to you with his dash and pull and his healing makes it tough to win trades/all ins late in lane phase.
Ideally you have ignite and wait for your Jungler before you all in post 6.
Amumu
Amumu can lock down multiple targets for you to jump on and takedown together in teamfights.
Diana
Diana's AP engage can be a good mixture of damage shred when Talon and Diana engage together in a team fight.
Elise
My favorite Jungler to play with as Talon, she has the ability to chase with Talon and lock down targets for you in the early game and burst them down quick with you.
Evelynn
Evelynn can be good if Talon and Evelynn both jump on a single squishy target as they likely won't withstand the AD & AP mixture of burst damage.
Fiddlesticks
If Fiddlesticks can land a ult on the enemy team while you engage, the mixture of damage will shred through their health very quickly in fights. He can also lock down a single target early game with their fear for you to jump on easily in early skirmishes.
Karthus
Karthus can offer very good aoe Damage and make it hard to keep track of your engage when they are dodging Karthus Q's.
Lee Sin
Lee sin can move around the map and pressure in fights along with Talon and secure a strong early lead together.
Nocturne
Nocturn can help you run down champs with his fear and make the enemy team have a hard time tracking you in Teamfights during his ult.
Nunu & Willump
Nunu can easily secure Grubs and Dragons with Talon's early lane priority and map pressure tendencies.
Rek'Sai
Rek'Sai can pressure early and can take down targets together with Talon to help secure a early lead.
Shaco
Specifically AP Shaco is good with Talon as 2 assassins with split damage can make it hard to build against one or the other.
Shyvana
If you can both dive into a fight together, Shyvana can fear multiple target for you to burst down quickly while offering good front line capability.

My IGN is Mrgrgr#NA, I mostly one trick Talon and have 4m mastery.
Generally I wouldn't recommend playing Talon in top lane unless you're a one trick and have a ton of match-up knowledge against top lane champions.
Top lane is really tricky to play with some of the match-ups, pretty much any match-up with damage, mobilty and lock down is gonna be rough in lane phase, e.g., Camille, Renekton. The lane quest addition also locking you into lane makes early roaming tougher than before.
Lane Phase
Talon already has a rough lane phase, and it can be even tougher in top lane. In match-ups major and up it's generally best to just farm in lane. Overall you're main goal is to mitigate the amount you get behind in these match-ups. If you get behind it's possible the lane can quicky spiral out of control.
During lane phase generally it's best to shove and roam to mid lane or into the enemy jungle to try and put the enemy Mid/Jungle behind.
Mid Game
Your usefullness in the game will jump marginally once laning phase is over, even if you're behind. During the mid game, you want to split side lanes and apply pressure to the map while waiting for objective fights.
Generally you want to hold your quest teleport for objective fights. Ideally so you can get a push in a lane then teleport to the objective fight if needed. Otherwise you should split near the objecive then look to path over with E and set up a flank.
Late Game
By this point you want to apply as much pressure on the map as possible and look for flanks and picks while splitting.
While splitting, continue to hold your teleport for team fights if possible. You want to watch your teams positions and try to set up flanks and fights with your team to push for an end.
Conclusion
If you decided to try Talon in top lane and this guide helps you and your team claim a victory, consider leaving a like on the guide. If you tried it and got rolled into a blunt consider leaving a dislike as this guide should probably get by default for suggesting playing Talon in the top lane.
I gained a lot of knowlage from a guide made by Fwii. Fwii was a challenger level Talon player before they stopped playing more regularly.
The guide below is outdated but still holds very valuable information on how to play Talon fundamentally in much more detail than mine, please check out their guide if you're interested in that.
