I main Maokaï since S3, and I love this champ, mostly after his rework in patch 7.9.
I am a Platinum Jungler and I continue climbing the ladder with Maokaï.
I wrote this guide to help you guys learning how to play The Mad Tree as Jungler.
I hope you'll be be a better Maokaï after reading this guide.
See you in the Summoner's Rift my Mao's lovers !
Maokaï has reeeeeally good natural stats.
His passive's heals is very efficient (I should say broken).
His Bramble Smash (Q)'s push back is enough to run away from 2-3 champs in a pursuit.
His Twisted Advance (W) makes you invulnerable which means you can avoid any spells.
His Sapling Toss (E) gives you vision, slows ennemies and deals pretty good damages if put in a bush.
His Nature's Grasp (R), often describes as too slow to be efficient, is a powerfull tool usefull in a lot of situations.
He is cool, I mean he's a tree who just wants to see all his opponents dead, even if he don't kill them himself.
Maokaï is a good ganker.
He's a good jungle's cleaner.
Maokaï can 1v1 a lot of champs if played correctly due to his passive and Courage of the Colossus. Still you don't have to look for 1v1.
He is really efficient in teamfights aswell.
...
His Twisted Advance (W) can turn into an inevitable dive or bad positionning.
His Sapling Toss (E)'s damages highly depends on bushes.
His Nature's Grasp (R) is tricky to time.
He needs to be with his teammates to be efficient.
Maokaïs will consume mana pretty quickly, so you'll have to back to base if you aren't a mana saver. Without your mana you can't do much as Maokaï.
Maokaï is a Tank.
Maokaï AP isn't viable anymore (RIP Midlaner Maokaï) so don't go for it unless you want to have fun camping bushes for 10 mins. Maokaï tank has already good damages and can survive a looooong time in teamfights. You only want to slow, roots your opponents, gaining time for your teammates to kill them or to escape successfully.
As a Jungler, you will have to ganks all lanes to allow your teamates to carry. You'll have to ward all game long and secure objectives.

On Blue Side, put Sapling Toss (E) at 01:11 on the bush of your Red Buff and continue until it appears. You will be able to kill it really fast with your botlane's help. Make sure all of your Sapling Toss (E) hit the Red, else pull the Red out.
Then go for the Wraiths, AA a little one then go in the bush and put a Sapling Toss (E) when they are all around the bush. Use your Bramble Smash (Q) after your Sapling Toss (E) exploded.
Then, go for your Blue (smite it) and go gank Top/Mid or go invade at your ennemy Red if he needs time to makes his first clear . You can also play passively by doing Gromp, then Wolwes and Krugs.
On Red Side, it's the same path but you will start at your Blue Buff.
Ward at 00:40 in the river to prevent invasion, and whenever you can. Killing the carapator will be really easy as Maokaï and important for your teammates.

Don't use Twisted Advance (W) when you are jungling, it will be a waste of mana for barely no damages. Always put your Sapling Toss (E) in a bush, except for the Gromp (as you will take too much time to make it go to the nearest bush).
Before ganks, use your Sapling Toss (E) in bushes to get vision (you can prevent a counter gank), and slow anyone coming this way.
Your main combo is Twisted Advance (W), walking behind the champs while he can't move, then Bramble Smash (Q) him back. Use your Sapling Toss (E) to slow him, not necessarily in a bush if you don't fight in one.
You can combo your Twisted Advance (W) by flashing before.
Your Nature's Grasp (R) can be used through walls which makes ganks even easier. Use it first as it is very slow, then you can (flash +) Twisted Advance (W) on a champ to make sure he will be hit by your ultimate.
Your Nature's Grasp (R) can be used in melee to kill someone or to stun/kill someone under his tower.
It can be used to prevent ennemy team to acces Drake/Nashor while your team is doing it or to finish an inhibitor before running away.
It can also be used to engage a teamfight.
Use your passive whenever you can in ganks/fights.
Be carefull when you use your Twisted Advance (W) on a champion who has a jump or his flash.

Your Bramble Smash (Q) can be use to activate Yasuo's Last Breath (R).
Your Sapling Toss (E) works with Ivern's Brushmaker (W).
Use your Twisted Advance (W) just before a champ go through a wall with a jump/flash to follow him anyway.
Take the Skin Totemic Maokaï, it is the prettiest LOL skin.
Don't forget you can use your Twisted Advance (W) to prevent any spells like Karthus' Requiem (R) or a push back who will puts your Twisted Advance (W) out of range.
You can use you Twisted Advance (W) to dodge Drake's pushing back when it's engaged.
You never wants to be alone versus Vayne. Trust me on this one.
