Hi everyone, my name is Rumbaaa and I'm glad to show you my Zilean guide. I am diamond Zilean main. First of all you'll ask me what does word agressive means? Probably you have seen Zilean mid in competetive playing and soloq already. But it always was 'Zilean for the team'. My motto is 'Team for Zilean', thats why this guide is called 'Agressive Killean the Zilean.

I hope that you know now why summoners spells are Flash and Ignite. This build is based on Ability Power and Magic Penetration, not cooldown reduction like others. You'll dominate mid lane and get control around. Zilean isn't roaming champion, he is a fortress on mid lane. You'll make so much pressure, that all your enemies will have to defend. And still, you'll be able to stay alone against five opponents.

Pros and Cons


+ huge damage
+ second life, thanks to Chronoshift
+ AoE stun
+ up to 99% speed up/slow
+ good wave clears
+ can defend even 1v5


- weak laning phase before lvl 6
- in higher elo people know how Chronoshift works
- lack of mana without blue/morellonomicon
- if you miss double Time Bomb, you are in trouble
- can't use Chronoshift while stunned, knocked up, silenced

  • Greater Mark of Attack Damage: Wait, what? Attack damage on Zilean? Yes, you need this to go all in with only auto attacks and ignite. Really you can kill enemy mid laner only with AA + Ignite. Also helps with last hitting.






  • Greater Seal of Armor: You need some armor, especially against AD junglers. Welcome in the meta of assassins.

I won't describe every single mastery, some of them are obvious pick.
  • It helps in early game, especially if you are playing against agressive opponent. Heal for 20 HP every 30 seconds helps a lot.

  • You are agressive Zilean, keep it in mind. So you have to deal huge damage instantly. You can take even 99% more damage, who cares you have Chronoshift.

  • Why this and no Precision? You may say that precision is better, because it gives you 3% more damage to champions below 40% health. Well to be honest, if enemy is below 40% HP you'll kill him anyway. So mana regeneration will be helpful here.

  • Magic penetration build and now CDR? Yes, you have enough penetration already. Some Cooldown Reduction will be helpful here.

  • Very strong keystone on Zilean. Put two bombs on your enemy + one auto attack to activate it. So as you can see your damage is ever bigger.

Summoner spells

  • I think it's obvious choice. Flash gives you opportunity for agressive or deffensive plays. It has long cooldown (300 seconds), but don't greed it when needed. Better burn Flash than die.

  • Why Ignite over Teleport / Exhaust / Ghost? Answer is simply: you have to dominate your lane. It is you, the person who will send your opponent to base. As I said, it is agressive Zilean so forget about other summoner spells. In some cases you can kill enemy champion by using only Ignite and auto attacks. I'm not joking.

Zilean's skills

Time in a bottle (Passive)

RANGE: 550
Zilean bottles 2 / 3.5 / 5 / 6 / 12 experience every 5 seconds. When he has enough experience stored to finish an ally's level, he can right-click them to give both himself and his ally the amount stored.

Donate an experience to your allies! Primarily focus on you AD Carry and Jungler. But for eg. it's right before teamfight and your ADC is lvl 6 and Support is lvl 5, give experience to the Support. Also look at the circles, it says how many experience an ally needs to lvl up. The closer yellow inner circle is to outer circle, the less experience your ally needs.

Time bomb (Q)

RANGE: 900
COST: 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80
COOLDOWN: 10 / 9.5 / 9 / 8.5 / 8
Zilean tosses a time-delayed bomb to a location, which then sticks to the first unit that comes within a small area around it (prioritizes champions). After 3 seconds, the bomb detonates, dealing 75 / 115 / 165 / 230 / 300 (+90% of ability power) magic damage to all surrounding enemies.

It is your basic skill. Use Rewind to cast Time Bomb again and stun enemies. Remember, that you don't have to put bomb on enemy. Use minions. With Rod of Ages backlane minions dies by using one Timbe bomb, use two bombs when enemy is close to deal damage from both bombs immediately.

Rewind (W)

COST: 35
COOLDOWN: 14 / 12 / 10 / 8 / 6
Reduces the cooldowns of Time Bomb and Time Warp by 10 seconds. Cannot be learned at level 1.

Use this skill to do combo with Time Bomb. Also use it to get your Time Warp again and be faster on lane/drake/nashor etc.

Time warp (E)

RANGE: 550
COST: 50
Zilean slows an enemy champion's movement speed or increases an allied champion's movement speed by 40 / 55 / 70 / 85 / 99 % for 2.5 seconds.

You can use it to slow down your enemy and get better aim for Time Bomb. If you are escaping from a melee champion use Time Warp on your enemy, otherwise on yourself. Don't forget that you can speed up your allies aswell. You can put a bomb on your ally and speed him up. Make him an alive bomb.

Chronoshift (R)

RANGE: 900
COST: 125 / 150 / 175
COOLDOWN: 120 / 90 / 60
Marks an ally champion or himself with a protective time rune for 5 seconds. If the target takes lethal damage during this time, instead of dying, they will be untargettable and remain in stasis for 2 seconds, then return to life, regaining 600 / 850 / 1100 (+200% of ability power) Health.

Second life, isn't it awesome? Of course it is! Wait with using Chronoshift to the very ending. At higher elo players knows, that they have to wait until it goes away. Don't forget that you can use it on your teammates! In teamfights save ultimate for AD Carry / Jungler, depends who is more useful. Sometimes you have to ult yourself. If you know that, teamfight won't go further save your Support or anybody else.

As I said, you play for magic penetration, it provides, so that you deal extreme damage with our abilities.

Core item for Zilean. You need some health, mana and of course ability power.

Second core item. More Ability Power, 20% Cooldown Reduction and very helpful passive: Kills and assists restore 20% of your maximum mana.

More Magic Penetration to nuke.

Remember our motto? 'Team for Zilean', so you have to nuke them, get more Ability Power.

No need to building deffensive items like Zhonya's Hourglass, you will survive everything. Probably game will end before you build this.

Forget about Archangel's Staff, it's useless.

Laning phase

  • Buy your starting items and go to lane. All what you want to do is keeping lane at the middle. After lvl 6 you can push, but now play around middle. Just don't let your tower hit minions.
  • What if you get pushed? Get lvl 3 as fast as possible. Now you can kill wizards minions using 2x Time Bomb. Do it immediately after hitting lvl 3, I mean throw bombs on cannon minon, when hes low. Cannon minon should be close to wizads. Tanking minions you will kill with auto attacks. Repeat it as long as it's needed.
  • 'Team for Zilean', keep it in mind. Zilean isn't good at roams. Stay mid and make pressure, you should take the first tower of the game. Also ping your teammates, when your opponent is missing. You don't want them to feed him.
  • By hitting lvl 6 you can go more agressive, remember that you have Ignite. In some cases if you miss every skill you can kill enemy mid laner by using only ignite and auto attacks.
  • Be nice to your jungler and ask for blue buff. ~Can I have blue buff?
  • If you miss Time Bomb, don't worry. You still can pick up one bomb and run to your enemy.

Mid game

  • Keep pressure on mid lane. If your team does well you can push even to inhibitor. Otherwise now you can help your team. Get objectives like drakes, top and bot towers.
  • If you are behind, you can go solo bot or top lane to farm up. You can even push a tower. But don't stay for so long, your team needs you.
  • Good decisions and good calls win games. Remember when I said about Challenger games analysis? Scroll up and watch how a good call looks like. In this way secure Baron Nashor and end the game if possible. It is the best time for ending the game.

Teamfights and late game

  • You are not a front line. Stay behind and throw good Time Bombs. Use Time Warp on your allies to speed them up. Works great with hyper carries and tanks with engage like Maokai.
  • Stay in a good position, so you will save Chronoshift for your teammates. Primarily use for AD Carry / Jungler. You know, in that moment you have to decide alone, who needs your ulitimate.
  • In late game your damage is HUGE, you can easily clear waves with super minions. Also don't get caught in a stupid way. You have Time Warp for escape, but still.
  • Play with team. They can't win in late as 4v5.

+ Zilean works brilliant with tank top laners with engages. I showed you some examples. Put Time Bomb on your tank and speed him up twice. Your cooldown are up, so you can use double Time Bombs on stunned/sneared enemy.

+ One example of good synergy beetwen tanky jungler with cc. And three with assassin's. Speed up and keep alive your assassin's by using Chronoshift

+ Zilean works very good with hyper carries. When they get red buff it's even better. Keep using Time Warp on them and watch how your AD Carry kills them 1v5. If he makes a bad move use Chronoshift to give him a second chance.

+ If you already have a hyper carry in your team, it's pretty good to have support with speed up and shield. That's why champions like Lulu works great. And of course supports with cc, speed up them and they put cc on your enemies.

Red circles: put pink ward here. Of course it's nice if you know where enemy's wards are so you can spot it. Yellow circles: you have to keep warding these two brushes. You are fast enough to escape when you spot enemy jungler. Green circles: put wards here to have a knowledge about enemy jungler. Then steal his crug camp. Blue circle: ward here, before recalling. You'll know what enemy mid laner is doing.
