Introduction

Okay, so I know what you're thinking... this build looks completely ridiculous. You may be right. It is a little bit ridiculous, but don't think that means I'm messing with you here. I am 100% serious about this build being a TON of fun to play (so long as you're not getting flamed by your team). You may think I'm trolling you, but that is not the case, my friend. Also, as much as we all love the guy, you may be trolling just by playing Aatrox anyway.

This build is all about taking Aatrox's Blood Thirst / Blood Price to its maximum level. Since the ability is a flat 6.5% of missing health and doesn't have any scale beyond the 5-10 additional health per upgrade, we only have one option here. We have to bring out full on attack speed!

This build is titled 'Aatrox Full Throttle' because playing with it is like stepping on the gas pedal and watching your tachometer jump all the way to the top. This build is all about speed, violence, and momentum!

If you're not here to go big, you'd better go home and play someone fair and balanced like Zoe. If you are ready for some insane fun, you're ready for this build.

Items

Starting Items

This is a pretty basic starting set-up, so there's not really much to say. The one thing I'd like to mention is that should absolutely NOT buy a refillable potion. It's a waste of your money and an item slot, because Aatrox has plenty of sustain to keep himself alive without it. Hell, you could even skip out on the potions if you're comfortable with the champion and that'd give you a boost toward your core items.

First Back

Jungle Item: I personally prefer Stalker's Blade to Skirmisher's Sabre, because it gives you the slow which makes it easier to catch enemies. The choice is yours to make, though.

Recurve Bow: If you have enough to buy this on your first back, go for it. However, boots of speed are pretty important for getting around, so I wouldn't sacrifice them for the recurve bow unless you're feeling particularly dangerous.

Core Items

Bloodrazor: This is an obvious decision because we're going for full on attack speed momentum. If you think this is the wrong decision, you're probably new to Aatrox and you should just take me at my word.

Trinity Force: Trinity Force is always a solid pick; the 40% attack speed is what we're really going for here, but the 20% CDR is also nice for getting that Dark Flight back up as soon as possible.

Berserker's Greaves: Also an obvious pick, because of the 35% attack speed they give.

Maximum Overdrive

This is pretty much absolutely the build you're going to want to take if you are committed to having the throttle jacked to full.

Statikk Shiv: Nice for its passive (which gets activated pretty quickly and is why I prefer it to Phantom Dancer for this build). Also, it gives you 35% attack speed.

Guinsoo's Rageblade: To top off all the attack speed, we get Guinsoo's. It does only give you 25% attack speed out of combat, but what we really want here is the additional 48% attack speed we'll get after just 4 attacks (since Aatrox is a melee champion). Once that is fully stacked up, you should be sitting on a nice 2.5 attack speed.

Infinity Edge: The combination of Infinity Edge and Statikk Shiv also gives you 60% Critical Strike chance and some bonus AD, so it's a solid decision.

Situational Purchases

Guardian Angel: If you really don't like dying, you could go for a Guardian Angel (even though Aatrox already has a GA built into his passive). Why not?

Phantom Dancer: Phantom Dancer could definitely be swapped with Statikk Shiv based on your preference.

Death's Dance: If you find yourself dying too quickly for your Infinity Edge crits to matter, you can pick up a Death's Dance instead.

Trinity Fusion: If for some god-forsaken reason, there's an Ornn on your team, boost that bad boy up to a Trinity Fusion, cause why not?

Skill Sequence

Definitely always level Blood Thirst / Blood Price (W) first, because it is the bread and butter of playing Aatrox. Without that third-hit healing, there's no way you're going to survive the jungle early on and having Blood Price is great for ganks and the like. After that, level Dark Flight (Q), because it is important for engaging and catching up to enemies, so having the shorter cooldown is pretty important. Additionally, Dark Flight is very useful for maneuvering the jungle to make your clear faster.

Runes

Runes are really up to you. I prefer to go Dark Harvest, but Hail of Blades would also be a solid decision here. The only other rune that I'd say is pretty important is Legend: Alacrity from the precision tree for the attack speed.

Jungling

First Clear

Red -> Raptors -> Wolves -> Blue -> Gromp (optional) -> Gank

If you find yourself low enough that you won't be able to gank effectively, then go for Gromp. If you're at a reasonable health, then i'd skip Gromp and gank. You can also take down the rift scuttler for some additional health before ganking.

Counter Jungling

If you're up against another Jungler who's not particularly strong in the early game, you can try and counter-jungle. Just be careful, because if you're not, you'll get destroyed and your team will hate you. You have your E to slow and Q to disengage. Make sure you also watch the laners at all times so you aren't caught off-guard by a response to your thievery.

Team Work

I feel like I shouldn't have to say this here, because it's something all junglers should know, but surprisingly enough, people don't do it.

VISION IS A MUST!

Seriously. As the jungler, it is your job to make sure you have as much vision as possible at any given time in key areas. Vision is extremely important to winning the game, because knowing where your enemies are at all times can make your strategic decisions a lot easier and less risky.

Some areas that are good to ward include Dragon, Baron (after 20 minutes), enemy buffs, and river bushes next to the lanes.

Also, if nobody on your team has a sweeping lens by the time the laning phase is over, you should swap out for one, because denying the enemy vision can save your life.

If all of this was new information to you, drop what you're doing and go watch a more in-depth guide on vision so that you know what you're doing.

Summary

I absolutely love playing Aatrox and I assume that since you're here and you somehow made it to the bottom of this guide, you love him too. However, we have to acknowledge the fact that he's just generally not a good champion. I know it's sad to think about, but we must face the truth.

You can have barrels of fun playing with the style outlined in this guide and playing Aatrox in general, but I definitely wouldn't suggest doing it all the time unless you're super casual about the game or you're not on your main account.

Chances are that your team is going to end up hating you on more than one occasion for following this build. Aatrox is definitely hit or miss and most of the time, you're not going to be a god slashing at light speed, taking down your foes in a matter of seconds. However, the few games where this happens are what makes all of the hard times worth it.

Good luck and have fun out there!
