Hi everyone! This is my first guide so go easy on me. I've been using this guide to climb and so far the results have been almost unreal. Amumu is a champion that does very little early game damage but can scale super hard into the late game. Traditionally Amumu builds tank but in my opinion building a mix of tank and AP is the best way to play him. Because of this, I've had games where i not only dealt the most damage, but took the most damage as well.

Amumu is a champion that is normally relied on for engage, so therefore should be able to take a few hits while the adc does their damage. Cinderhulk will make you extremely tanky late because of it's passive which grants you bonus percent health. This plus Rylai's and Lyandry's will make you extremely tanky while still dealing a ton of damage. iceborn gauntlet is usually a must for me when playing Amumu because of its awesome passive which slows enemies after sheen proc, which, in turn synergies with Rylai's which can slow enemies even more with Amumus W. With this build, if you hit a bandage toss on any enemy, they will be dead in the next few seconds. Even tanky enemies due to the percent health statistic on Amumu's W

Iceborn and Rylai's are Amumu's bread and butter, but when to build one or the other can vary. If your team is snowballing and you need more damage then take a Rylai's, and if not then take an iceborn. You can also go for an MR first item if the enemy team is both ahead and primarily AP. If I'm doing OK and vs a few fed AP champs I'll usually take an Abyssal, but Rylai's can still work if you're feeling confident. Sometimes if you're really behind against AP a banshee's veil or a spirit visage is the best option.

Amumu is a very good Objective taking champion because of his w dealing percent health. you can solo dragon if you've picked up an Iceborn or Rylai's. Baron is a little more difficult but 20 minute Barons are a breeze with Amumu if you have your team with you.

As I'm sure you know by now, Amumu's ult is an insane spell, that when used properly can literally win any team fight. If you catch a five man ult with more cc behind you, you'll get an easy 5-0 ace. However, amumu's ult MUST BE USED SPARINGLY. DO NOT use your ult to pick off a champion before a team fight. You're team is counting on you to engage, and rightfully so. During a team fight, wait for minions to pass, q onto a carry (Or on a champion next to a carry) ult, then auto attack and e the carry you're team needs to be targeting. NEVER TARGET A TANK DURING A TEAM FIGHT. EVER. Amumu's ult goes extremely well with: Kennen, Malphite, Orianna, Gnar, and pretty much all ADCs that can give you sustained damage.

Amumu is a champion that thrives off of ganks. Amumu is a supportive champion and must be played as such, meaning don't expect kills when ganking, expect assists. If you can, give the kill to your carry.

DONT OPEN WITH YOUR Q. Your Q is your most useful ganking spell. If you're ganking a laner with flash, don't q until they've burned it, or until they've gotten away. Open by running in through tri bush if you're on blue side top lane or red side bot lane, but overall save your Q and try to be between the champ youre ganking and wait for them to flash or dash away first.

And always compliment carries on kills (Even though you did the work ;) and save your ult for team fights but don't be shy to use it to save a turret or get a kill earlier in the game before teams are grouping up. You're the engage, so grow a pair and engage when the enemy team is clumped.
