Marks and Quintessences are Magic Penetration for more Magic Damage, through Eternal Thirst passive, Hungering Strike and some items ( Sunfire Aegis, Wit's End) if they are bought. An other choice can be Scaling AP for Marks and Quintessences for stronger Hungering Strike.

Start Items
- Start: Chalice of Harmony for Mana Rageneration. Can be temporary item when if the game drags on and when survival relying on Hungering Strike is no longer necessary. Can be upgraded to Athene's Unholy Grail for Cooldown Reduction and AP, or into Mikael's Blessing, for the Cleanse-like active and extra Magic Resist.
- Relic Shield is for fast killing minions, extra sustain and Gold for the team. Upgrade to Targon's Brace for even more Gold and sustain. It is only a temporary item, so it should be replaced if the game drags on. By that point, the Gold bonus should be greater than the purchase cost.
- OR Ancient Coin if ally teammates have good champions for safe farming. Upgrade to Nomad's Medallion for even more Gold and sustain.
- Remaining Gold goes to Health Potion.
Magic Resist Items
- Spirit Visage is for increased self-healing through Eternal Thirst and Hungering Strike.
- Locket of the Iron Solari is for the team.
- Banshee's Veil if crowd control is unbearable.
Armor Items
- Sunfire Aegis for inflicting some Magic Damage while tanking.
- Thornmail if there is a lot of Auto-Attack on the enemy team.
- Randuin's Omen if there is a lot of Auto-Attack on the enemy team, or if Health is needed.
- Frozen Heart if there is a lot of Auto-Attack on the enemy team. The aura stacks with the Oppression mastery for additional damage reduction.
Offensive Items
- Frozen Mallet for slowing down enemies while attacking them.
- Blade of the Ruined King for stronger Auto-Attacks, extra Lifesteal, and a useful active.
- Wit's End for stronger Auto-Attacks, extra Magic Resist and Magic Resist reduction.

Before level 6, the early game should be focused on killing minions and accumulate gold. No engagement unless the risk is very low. As a tank, intercept enemy skillshots and traps when Health is high then cast Hungering Strike to regain Health. If allies are capable of scoring kills, cast Hunters Call for easy assists.
After level 6, attempts to score kills can be made. Cast Infinite Duress on a high priority target, but make sure allies are ready to follow first. Nevertheless, priority should go on killing minions to push, and destroy towers to secure a comfortable advance. Chase to shoo away then go back to kill minions, not chase to score kills and risk getting killed and feed the enemy team.
Always keep in check the numbers of alive champions to know if it safe to push with a low number of teammates.
