bastard champ >:( avoid getting poked for free, drop minions if necessary in early-game to keep a high health. try to bait out his Q and go for a trade. avoid W auto proc. overall if he cant combo you with spells for a stun = go for trade
Rakan
heavy engage supports are amazing with jax, paving the way for you in teamfights so you don't have to be the first one in, giving you a free time vs enemy carries

Champion Build Guide
Doran's Blade Good starting item in games where you have a free lane, or are playing vs a champion that you will guaranteed fistfight very early into the game (for example ![]() |
Doran's Shield Can't go wrong with D Shield. This item makes you tanky with the big hp pool it gives you alongside the regen, making it a strong and safe option vs any champion, especially poke and hard matchups. |
Sundered Sky The best general 2nd item for Jax. It gives you everything you want, and you can build it in every game. |
Stridebreaker A good 2nd item for Jax in games where you are vs a bunch of squishy kiting champs, giving you an amazing active to help you with chasing. |
Sterak's Gage Sterak's continues to be an amazing item for Jax, making it the strongest general 3rd item. At this point in the game you almost always want to have some Tenacity, and on top of that this item provides you with great stats. |
Spear of Shojin Shojin can be bought instead of Sterak's 3rd in games where you don't feel the need for Tenacity, and need a bit of extra damage. If you did end up going ![]() |
Zhonya's Hourglass Still a great item for Jax in late-game. The AP from this item boosts your damage as almost all your spells scale from AP, and the Armor makes you more durable. However the reason this item is still good is because of the amazing active. Use the stasis active to dodge strong enemy spells, or to have a free 2.5s towards your remaining cooldowns (mainly for your E). |
Jak'Sho, The Protean A good general last item for Jax. This item just makes you generally more tanky, allowing you to survive against the heavy amounts of damage in late-game. |
SITUATIONAL ITEMS
Mercury's Treads Despite all the nerfs to Mercs, it's still a good option in games where the enemy has very heavy CC & magic damage. If your sidelane matchups dont require Tenacity but teamfights do, you can always skip Mercs and just go ![]() |
Plated Steelcaps Steelcaps can be a good item early in games where you are laning vs a ranged auto-attacker in toplane, and the rest of the enemy comp is also full AD. |
Maw of Malmortius Maw can be an option in games where the enemy is extremely heavy (4+) in magic damage, making you a lot tankier while also boosting your damage. This item will replace ![]() |
Randuin's Omen Randuin's Omen is a good item, but only in niche situations. This item hard-counters Crit champs, and should only be bought if the enemy is extremely heavy in Physical Damage (4+, specifically Crit). |
Frozen Heart Just like Randuin's, Frozen Heart should only be bought in games vs extremely heavy physical damage comps (4+). However this item doesn't require the enemy teamcomp to be Critical Strike based. |
Hullbreaker Kind of a cheesy item. Jax already pushes turrets extremely fast, but this item allows you to absolutely annihilate them. This item can be bought in games where grouping feels hopeless and you need to rage-split to win. |
Wit's End Just like with Maw, building Wit's End requires a heavy AP enemy comp. The magic damage on-hit and Tenacity can especially help you vs tanky CC comps. |
SUMMONER SPELLS
Teleport Can't go wrong with TP. OP spell since the dawn of time, allowing you to make plays around the map throughout the game, and make sure you can come back to lane at any time in early-game. |
Ignite Take Ignite in games where you are vs a healing-based enemy toplaner (such as ![]() ![]() |
Flash The single most OP thing in the game, ever. Always take Flash. |
