about me
Hey everyone, I’m Ricky (IGN: TTV NeonRST FF15-RICK) — currently the only Grandmaster Mordekaiser Jungle player. I decided to make this guide because I’ve put countless hours into refining Mordekaiser jungle pathing, matchups, and objective control, and I wanted to share that knowledge with anyone who’s curious about picking up Mord in the jungle.

This guide is written partly for fun, but also to help players understand that while Mordekaiser isn’t a meta jungler, he can absolutely carry games if you play around his strengths. Mordekaiser jungle has a very different playstyle compared to traditional junglers — it’s all about efficient farming, hitting level 6 as fast as possible, and then taking over fights at dragons and objectives.

I’ll be covering my thought process, pathing, builds, and mindset in detail, so whether you’re a Mordekaiser main looking to try jungle or just someone who enjoys off-meta picks, this guide should give you the tools to succeed.

If you actually want to try this out, or if you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me on Discord: rickyrx. I’m always happy to talk about Mordekaiser jungle, answer questions, or just discuss the game.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my guide. I hope it helps you see the fun (and power) of Mordekaiser jungle!
early game
Early Game (Pre-6)

Your goal before level 6 as Mordekaiser Jungle is simple: farm and hit level 6 as fast as possible. Pre-6 you aren’t a strong ganker, so most of your focus should be on efficient clears, avoiding coinflip fights, and setting yourself up to control the first dragon.

Jungle Pathing
• Default Path: Start topside and path towards botlane. This gives you better chances to secure early dragons after hitting 6.
• Situational Path: If both your mid and bot are weak early and the enemy jungler is an invader, consider pathing towards top instead. If your top is winning lane, you can protect them and avoid losing too much on the map.

First Clear Options
• Safe Start (Buffs): Starting at a buff gives you a consistent, safer clear.
• Greedy Start (Camps): Starting at raptors or wolves can speed up your level 6 timing, but it’s risky if you get invaded.

Hitting Level 6 Timing
• After your second full clear, you will usually be one camp off level 6.
• If you can smite the dragon at this timing, you’ll instantly hit 6 and become the strongest champion at that fight. This one moment can make or break your early game.

Objectives (Dragons & Grubs)
• Timing 1: If the enemy jungler shows topside and you’re hovering bot, go straight to dragon if your lanes have prio.
• Timing 2: After your second full clear — if you’re close to 6, smiting dragon will give you the spike you need to take over.

Early Game Ganking
• Mordekaiser’s pre-6 ganks are weak — only gank volatile lanes (heavy trading lanes or lanes that burned Flash).
• You can Q + Flash for burst and pull with E into your laners, but don’t chase too far if the gank fails.
• Remember: hitting level 6 is always more important than forcing bad ganks.

Key Mindsets
• If invaded: Don’t fight — leave your camps and instantly invade theirs. Mord has no mobility, so you need to grab what you can and get out. Staying even in CS is the goal, even if it means sacrificing camps.
• Jungle Tracking: Mordekaiser cannot escape if caught. You must track the enemy jungler carefully so you don’t walk into losing fights.
• Vision is your biggest enemy: Try to start fights from bushes by using Q auto auto to proc your passive and save e for if they flash/dash/run away
• W Usage: Stack your shield before every fight so you can use your W twice for maximum value.
• Ignore early team spam: Mord isn’t an early ganking jungler. If your teammates spam ping for ganks, don’t get baited — your strength is in skirmishes and objectives, not early lane pressure.

Builds on First Base
• Standard Path: After a 6-camp clear you’ll usually back for amp tomes and ruby crystals on the way to Rocketbelt.
• Power Spike Option: If you want to be strongest at your first base, grab a Haunting Guise (1300g). It gives great early damage and helps with your first objective fight.

Golden Rule Pre-6

If you ever have two options — always take the safer one.
Delaying level 6 is the worst thing you can do on Mordekaiser.
mid game
Mid Game (6–14)

Once you hit level 6 and complete Rocketbelt, your entire playstyle shifts. Mordekaiser becomes a real threat on the map, capable of ganking, invading, and taking fights on his own terms. Your ultimate turns any skirmish into a favorable situation, and Rocketbelt gives you the mobility you need to actually reach your targets.

Ganking With Ult

Mord’s ganks go from weak to terrifying after 6. You can Rocketbelt forward to close distance, E pull to lock them down, and instantly ult the biggest threat.

Your main job is not to force random ganks but to punish lanes that overextend or have no Flash. Even a single misstep means you can drag them to the Death Realm and secure a free kill.

Invading & Skirmishing

Mordekaiser is one of the best midgame invaders. Worst case scenario, you ult the enemy jungler and turn it into a guaranteed 1v1.

Look for fights around enemy buffs, Rift Herald, or jungle entrances. Mord excels at small skirmishes because your passive melts through health bars and you’re extremely hard to peel off.

Remember: you still rely on teammates to start fights. Mord isn’t a natural engager, but once someone commits, you’re the clean-up crew that ensures the fight sticks.

Objective Control

Dragons and Heralds are your win condition. Mord forces the enemy to choose between losing their jungler to Death Realm or giving up the objective entirely.

If you’re ahead, you can often solo objectives while the enemy jungler watches helplessly.

Always try to have prio in at least one lane before forcing objectives — Mord can’t escape if things collapse.

Key Mindsets

Use Ult as a zoning tool: Sometimes ulting a tank or peeling threat is better than ulting their carry. If you remove the frontliner, your team can dive freely.

Play vision control smartly: Mord loves fighting in fog. Sweeping wards before an invade or objective makes you way scarier.

Don’t overforce: Your strength is in controlled skirmishes. Diving into 5 people without setup will get you kited to death.

Builds & Scaling

After Rocketbelt, look for Rift-maker for the standard build path or Zhonyas if the enemies have strong burst. Both massively improve your midgame dueling and teamfight presence.

If the game slows down, don’t be afraid to just farm — Mord scales fine into the late game, not the best, but still ok.
late game
Late Game (Post-14 / 25+ minutes)

By the late game, Mordekaiser’s role shifts from farming and skirmishing into being a decisive teamfight disruptor. You no longer play for yourself — you play to bait, isolate, or remove key threats so your team can win the 5v5. Realm of Death becomes less about free kills and more about controlling the flow of the fight.

Teamfighting With Ult

Baiting Bad Fights: The biggest strength Mord brings late game is the ability to force enemy mistakes. By ulting either their frontliner or hypercarry, you instantly create a 4v4 scenario that can tip the fight. Sometimes killing isn’t even required — simply removing someone at the start of the fight denies their impact.

Target Choice:

Hypercarry (ADC / fed mid): If you can win the 1v1, delete them and end the fight on the spot.

Hypercarry (can’t 1v1): Ult them with Zhonya’s ready. Your goal is to stall, soak cooldowns, and buy your team time to collapse on the rest of their lineup.

Engage Tank / Bruiser: Removing their frontline (Sejuani, Rell, Nautilus) before they can engage denies the enemy comp’s identity and lets your team fight freely.

Combos: Use Rocketbelt or Flash to close the gap, E pull to guarantee a catch, then ult. Always weave in passive procs and save W shield for survivability.

Objective Control (Baron, Elder, Soul Fights)

Mordekaiser becomes one of the best Baron and Elder dragon controllers. Ulting the enemy jungler at these fights guarantees they cannot contest Smite, essentially making objectives free.

Always push for vision denial before setting up. Mord is strong in fog of war, but extremely vulnerable if caught walking in without information.

If ahead, you can even solo Baron or Elder with lifesteal + shield stacking, especially if your team zones for you.

Positioning & Key Mindsets

Not a Primary Engage: By late game, Mord cannot be the one face-checking or diving first. You must let teammates start fights, then follow up to isolate priority targets.

Zoning Power: Sometimes ulting the wrong person on purpose (like a tank with no impact) is correct, just to remove them and make the fight unfair numbers-wise.

Stalling With Zhonya’s: If you ult someone too strong, focus on dealing chip damage, stacking your shield, and pressing Zhonya’s to waste their time. Buying 7 seconds inside Death Realm is often enough for your team to win outside.

Ghost Timing: Ghost is game-changing in late game fights. Use it as the fight begins, not when you’re already kited, so you can stick to carries and force your ult.

Side Lane Split Push: Mord can still push sides in the late game, but only when Baron/Elder aren’t up. His 1v1 is scary, but if you get collapsed on without ult, you die instantly. Only split with vision and TP advantage.

Builds & Itemization

Core Late Game Items:

Jcksho: tankier in teamfights after stacking in ult.

Zhonya’s Hourglass: Absolutely mandatory in games where you can’t reliably win Death Realm 1v1s.

Situational: Spirit Visage (vs AP + for W healing), Thornmail (vs healing ADCs), Void Staff (vs heavy MR).

Golden Rules Late Game

Never be the first in — Mordekaiser is cleanup and disruption, not initiation.

Ult is a tool for control, not just kills — removing anyone can turn a 5v5 into a winning fight.

If you can’t win the Death Realm 1v1, stall with damage + Zhonya’s. Your teamfight value is in the 4v4 outside.

Baron and Elder fights are where you shine. Ulting the enemy jungler should be your top priority — it guarantees objectives and often ends the game.
Abilities
Darkness Rise (Passive)

Not much to highlight here other than one key detail: activating your ultimate won’t grant a passive stack. Also, keep in mind that the AoE ticks can sometimes draw turret aggro — be careful when fighting under enemy towers so you don’t take unnecessary damage.

Obliterate (Q)

Your Q is strongest when it lands as an isolated hit. Always try to angle it so it connects with only the enemy champion instead of minions. This can be tricky if they hide in the wave, but shifting your position or attacking from the side often makes it possible. You can also pair Q with Flash for unexpected burst damage or to secure a kill on a fleeing target.

Indestructible (W)

This is your primary sustain and trading tool. Trading without W up is almost always a losing play. Ideally, you want to charge it fully to convert into a massive shield, but even partial stacks can be used for short trades — let the shield soak the damage, then disengage until it’s back up. Outside of fights, you can use the healing activation.

Death’s Grasp (E)

Because of its windup animation, this ability is pretty easy to see coming. You’ll usually land it on opponents without mobility. Offensively, it’s great for extending trades or setting up your combo, while defensively you can reverse its direction to pull enemies away from you. This is especially valuable against champions who try to stick to you since it lets you create space and disengage.

Realm of Death (R)

Your ultimate is what makes you such a dangerous duelist. The 10% stat steal can completely swing close fights, and it has some neat interactions — for example, you can dodge large AoEs (like Nunu & Willump’s ult) by pulling someone into the Realm and avoiding the zone. Once inside, there’s no escape — your target is stuck for the full duration unless you kill them.

A key detail is that the stat steal takes 10% of their current stats at the moment of cast. So if you ult a Rammus while his W is active, you’ll steal the bonus resistances, and even if his W ends, you keep the stolen stats (and keep them if you kill him).

Don’t forget that Realm of Death can also act as a peel tool. If someone dives your backline, you can drag them into the Realm and neutralize the threat before they reach your carries.
