Introduction

Hello, I'm Arceus255, a M7 Garen main who doesn't play ranked because I hate it. If you're looking for a guide to playing the Gary in ranked, You can probably find a better one elsewhere.
This particular build might not seem like anything special. Why? Because it's a normal ******** Garen build. But I assure you, the magic comes from how you use it. I know you're not here because I'm good at the game, because god, I know I'm not. You're here for a special experience, you're here to scream while blasting Sabaton music and making the enemy lane cry, not because you're good, but because they don't know how to fight a Garen. You're here to bring justice. You're here to impress your friends on how "good" you are at the game, or to laugh with them at how braindead Garen is. You're here for a laugh, perhaps, despite this build being fully viable for what it does. These all fall under one simple category.
This is.
The Gary experience.

Runes

Grasp of the Undying
Why? Not only does this give you more max health, but it also gives you the extra damage that scales with your health, and the extra healing. The health can also stack up late game, to give you a pretty nice bonus.

Unflinching
You might ask, "But why not Demolish? It'll give you plenty of damage against towers, and you'll be able to get turret faster." This is true. You can take Demolish if you want. But if you want the full establishing dominance experience, Unflinching will be just as good. You'll win lane if it lasts long enough that you're level 11, because your healing is stupidly strong, and the extra tenacity / slow resist you get will help you keep running at people so they piss their pants. Then you can get to the good part.

Conditioning
Again, you're going to focus more on the later game. Garen isn't that strong early anyways, being a tank, and conditioning will give you more armor and MR than the other two choices so long as you're patient.

Overgrowth
You could get second wind, if you think you need it, but your passive health regeneration and Dorans Shield will cover that issue usually. Overgrowth will give you a nice health bonus that can scale nicely later in the game.

Triumph / Coupe de Grace
These are taken often enough that I don't really need to explain. But one thing I will mention is that, if you think you can deal with it, you can replace one of these with Legend: Tenacity for the extra tenacity. But Triumph and Coupe de Grace are both what I use.

Items

I won't detail the items that much since this build is very basic with the items, and the notes already talk about it, but I will say that once you're confident enough, you can build any other items on Garen depending on where the game is going. Just remember that whatever item you build allows you to establish dominance even more.

Your Tools

Perseverance
This is something you want to keep in mind at all times. Before level 11, it's a nice bonus to your regen, and is great for sustain.
After level 11, though, this is what lets you go up to someone, almost die, walk away and then dance for a few seconds, then bam, full health. The dancing part is mandatory, but can be replaced with tauntspam or, if you've got it, your mastery emote. (M4 is the best for this)
I can't stress it enough, this will change your lane entirely when you hit level 11, if you're still in lane. It's like a mini warmogs.

Decisive Strike
A solid ability, and easy enough to understand. Starting this ability lets you go in for early poke without taking much damage, and in the rest of the game, it's extremely versatile. It's a movement speed increase. You can run away from people, or chase them. It's a damage ability. You can hit people with it. It breaks you from slows. You can trade and chase better with it overall. Very important to know when to use it.

Courage
Useful for winning trades or avoiding ganks. Again, use it wisely. The extra tenacity and damage resistance for the first .75 seconds are both very useful. Enemy laners with stuns or slows will get **** on if you know how to use this.

Judgement
Your bread and butter. Loads of damage, especially against justice targets. Use it whenever possible to get the damage off. Note that it shreds armor, so subsequent attacks will have an easier time killing people dead. Also useful for clearing minions.

Demacian Justice
Your run of the mill execute. Timing with this is very important, and it's probably the only difficult thing you'll do with Garen. Having it unlocked at all will mark the enemy with the most recent kills, and marked targets take bonus true damage.
Also your ult will deal full true damage on marked targets.
You don't need a kill with it, so long as your enemy gets the message that they're a little ***** and you're the alpha Chad. Useful for securing the kills you'll get when you're diving them under tower.

How to properly experience Gary

The build is standard, but this isn't just a build, this is a way of life. This is how you will come to be feared as the alpha Chad of every game you come in.

First off, realize that you're not laning just to win. You're laning as a show of force against the enemy team. You want to win, but you also want to make them cry for their jungler to camp their lane. You need to show them how Gary works. Dive them and kill them under tower, 1v2 them when you're fed enough. Make them realize that they'll need their whole team to kill you.

The whole point of this is to establish dominance. You need them to know that if they **** with you, they're dying. Even if that's not true at all times, they'll think it is. You'll know you've done your job when you're running at five people and they all run away at once.

Establish dominance.

In order to properly establish dominance, you'll need to do follow these pointers.
-At level one, auto them every time Grasp is up. Good poke, good healing, and more max health for you. Use Q for the auto-ing.
-Continue to do this throughout lane, but when you're ready, start spinning after you auto while popping up your W.
-Use your ult to kill people as much as possible. Maybe you don't even need to use it, but if you use it all the time, then stop using it, it will make them feel even more worthless.
-If you die, make sure to swiftly recover by typing "im da bes" in all chat. This will make it clear that you're not going to be stopped, and you are fully tilt proof.
-Listen to some justice music while playing. Any songs by Sabaton, for example, will work, or listen to Demacia Rising. It doesn't need to be loud, but the louder it is the better your experience.
-Tower diving is important, but it needs to be planned. You don't need to kill anyone when you dive, but make sure to show them that you're willing to take a couple tower shots just so you can Q them for your grasp stacks.
-Play like an idiot. Full ****** mode is crucial to playing Garen, and it will make your experience a lot better. It will also make it hard to predict just what you will do, as only sometimes are you playing like anyone sensible would, and other times you're diving them and tanking 6 turret shots.
-Chase people. I mean Chase people. Not just chase. Chase. Make them realize that even if you're not getting a kill, you're going to follow them to their tower, through the jungle, to their base. If you suspect they're baiting you, then get an escape plan ready. It'll show them you live on the edge, and you're prepared to die just to kill someone.
-Stand under turrets. Or rather, sit under turrets. Set up a lawn chair, and just set up shop under a turret. Turrets are often seen as major damage dealers in the game, and they have constant vision for the enemy team. If you stand under them for long periods of time, it is one of the most effective demonstrations of power. You can use your W once the turret it fully ramped up in terms of damage. Tauntspamming or dancing is optional.
-Always protect and avenge your brethren. When someone on the enemy team gets a kill within sight of you, you need to kill them. It's your duty, and you must show that you are willing to die for your comrades.
-Stand in one place while people attack you. This is similar to standing under turrets, but is much more personal. It gives you a good measurement of how much of a ***** the enemy is, and it makes them feel like a male prostitute with erectile dysfunction.
-When an enemy wards, stand right on top of the ward. You can either just use your spin and act like you're trying to damage it, or you can start dancing / tauntspamming.

Summary

Garen is not to be ****ed with.
Garen as a champion is perfect for establishing dominance, he looks like an alpha and he's ready to **** anybody's day up. The tenacity you will have with Garen will allow you to shrug off all the CC you will likely get thrown at you, and since this build is all about making the enemy feel wholly unsafe anywhere on the map except their own fountain, tenacity helps out a lot. You'll need to break the rule that champions with high health have lower damage. This is a rule that is well established, usually, and when you break it people feel less secure about other rules. In fact, in this build, your main goal is to break every rule that people think this game has. You're a loose cannon. You're an agent of Mayhem.
You are Gary, Master of establishing dominance.
