Hey guys, I'm Kethex. I'm a level 30 summoner whose main champion happens to be Jax. I've played well over 110+ games with him, having an (average) winrate of 65%. Although lately I've branched out into other champions or roles, Jax is still my favourite due to his versatility and his HUGE damage output, not to mention his gapcloser and dodge/stun combo.

Here's some games I've played with this build:



P.S: The most recent game in the image above was me playing Jungle Jax. He's very viable, but that's for another guide. I've also highlighted all important information in blue, so if you don't feel like reading the whole guide, just read the bits in blue.

The reason I've created this guide (my first) is because I've had good consistent success with this build time and time again. I felt as if I should share it with you guys, and so I made this guide. Comment and say your opinion so I can make changes if needed to!

Greater Mark of Scaling Attack Damage - So, this is where you can replace it with flat ad marks, or armor penetration. The reason I get this is because I prefer Jax to scale hard in the late-game, but you can edit this to your preference.

Greater Mark of Armor - More defence against auto-attacking top laners (e.g a certain Kennen), and just all around more survivability. Who wouldn't want more armor?

Greater Mark of Magic Resist - Early, mid and late game, this has saved my life on many occasions. This helps you protect against AP mid-laners like Lux and Diana for the whole duration of the game, while the added MR of the build helps you deal tons of damage while not dying easy.

Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage - More damage once you hit 6, who wouldn't want that?

21/9/0 on Jax. The points on the offense tab will give you extra attack speed, ability power (for more damage on your Empower and Leap Strike), and armor penetration. On the defense tab, we're taking the full 4 and 3 points on both Durability and Hardiness, while also taking a point in both Veteran Scars and one point in Resistance. This'll give us more all-round survivability during all stages in the game.

Jax is a hybrid/offtank champion with the capability to deal monstrous amounts of damage both mid and late game. He has some cons as with every champion, but his extraordinary damage output and amazing survivability makes him a monster in the top-lane.

Pros

+ Massive Damage Output + Naturally Tanky + AoE stun at ANY time + Deals Hybrid Damage

Jax's pros far outweigh the cons. He has a massive damage output without the need for much offensive items, he grows naturally tanky as the game progresses, he has an AoE stun ( Counter Strike which he can use with Leap Strike to get away and he deals Hybrid Damage which means you can't just stack one type of defence to reduce his output.

Cons

- Sruggles against Tanks - No Sustain early game - Vulnerable without Dodge - Hardly any AoE damage

Unfortunately, Jax has some cons which offer him a real hard time in lane and throughout the game. Jax struggles against really tanky opponents e.g Garen and especially Malphite. If your a Jax and your facing Malphite in lane, don't bother to engage, just farm and try and gank because your not going to be killing him. Jax also has no sustain at all early game, he's vulnerable when his Counter Strike is on cooldown and he has hardly any AoE damage.

These are my standard go-to boots when I'm playing a game. Since most games revolve around AD, I usually don't need to get any other boots. Since this guide revolves around solo top, you need to pick your boots according to what champ (or champs) your facing. If your facing an AD champ, go with Ninja Tabi. Otherwise, if they have a really fed AP carry or AP mid-laner, go Mercury's Treads. If they also have high amounts of CC, Mercury's Treads will also be good.

This'll be your first major item. It's passive gives you 150% base damage as bonus damage on hit. This passive is one of the reasons that you choose to max Empower first, as having 160 bonus damage onto your Empower is amazing, and given it has a 3 second cooldown when maxed, this is too good to pass up.

Get Trinity Force in this order; Sheen, Phage, and Zeal.

You'll get Sheen first because of it's passive: 100% base damage as bonus damage on hit. Added with the extra AP and mana which'll help you harass more and stay in lane longer, this is a must have.

Phage second because of the extra health which is needed early game, and the bonus attack damage and slow chance. This'll help you chase down your enemies and withstand extra attacks that much more.

Zeal last well because apart from the extra movement speed, this isn't really that much of a useful item in comparison to Sheen and Phage. You'll get this last, and then you'll complete your Trinity Force, offering a huge powerup in all your base stats. All in all, this is a must have first item.

Most people prefer to get Blade of the Ruined King instead of Hextech, but I prefer this item due to all the goodies it offers. You will get more AD, AP, an active which slows, Life Steal AND Spell Vamp. All in all, this offers great sustain, great damage and a passive which'll help you kill people all the more better.

Make sure to buy Bilgewater Cutlass first instead of Hextech Revolver. This is for 2 reasons; most of Jax's damage comes from AA's. You'll get more sustain with 10% lifesteal then the 12% spell vamp that the Revolver offers. Also, the added damage on Bilgewater will help you push faster and deal more damage, not to mention the active which deals 100 magic damage and slows the target.

Randuin's Omen is the holy grail of defence. It gives you 70 armor AND 500 health, not to mention both the PASSIVE AND ACTIVE offer slows in different scenarios. This item is a must have on Jax to increase his survivability late game.

Maw of Malmortius is generally is one of the items I get. It offers 60 additional attack damage so you can kill people all the more faster while offering 40MR for defence purposes AND 2 passives which have saved me so many times. The first one is sort of a double edged sword, as the lower health you get, the more AD you get, up to a max of 35AD. The second one, upon taking magic damage that would leave you at less then 30% of your health, grants a shield that absorbs 400 magic damage. This has saved me from a certain Lux's Final Spark and Diana's Lunar Rush as well as others. This item gives a lot more then it's price, and I advise you to get it nearly every time.

Warmog's Armor gives you a ton of health AND health regen. What more would you want? If you need more survivability, get this as your last item. The passive gives you 1% of your max health, and with this build, that means you'll be regenerating a MASSIVE 50 health per 5 seconds. That's like having a health pot on whenever you want. This is a very recommended item.

Blade of the Ruined King is a very good item on Jax. You'll get this over Warmog's Armor if your completely dominating and don't need the extra health or you want more damage in duels. Either way, this'll help you in dealing with tanky opponents because of the amazing passive, life steal, attack speed and attack damage. This is a good pick over Warmogs.

Guardian Angel is a debatable pick. Only get this if you KEEP dying because your getting focused in teamfights. This'll help you survive more and also will give you more armor and magic resist. Get this if you really don't need the aforementioned Blade of the Ruined King or Warmog's Armor.
