Hmm... then it's not so easy ! Jax is weaker at some levels, especially when Counter Strike has too much cooldown. I think you should explain everything you have in mind if you want everyone to understand you. Trying to write it as if you wanted to speak to people who discover the game would make it more complete and more precise. :)

I usually get Randuin's Omen first, then Spirit Visage. The first one, at the moment, gives the biggest defensive stats of the game while the second synergizes too well with the champion's Hiten Style and ultimate (resistances, increased healing, cooldown reduction) and is the best magic resist item on bruisers since season 3 (R.I.P., Force of Nature).

Guardian Angel is actually far from being gold efficient and gives less effective health than Warmog's Armor, however it is good if you feel like you are being focused. I think going for Warmog's Armor is still best most of the time. And I don't hate this item so much !

Also, when you're ahead, you don't necessary need tankyness so fast, or you can buy half tanking half damage items. I'm thinking about Wit's End for example. It looks like you want to make a build to end fast, so low cost gold efficient mid-tier items should be prioritized to gain a big power spike in my opinion.

About the passive, everyone can make the mistake since it's not explained in Ionian Fervor's tips. This is why theorycrafting is sometimes difficult, some parameters aren't well explained but in the end, when you see it, it's only logical. (In this present case, same passives add additionally, different passives stack multiplicatively) If you want to make simulations, I recommend you this website who has a builder. It can help a lot on knowing actual numbers.

P.S. : this build works at every division, but is situational past a certain level because builds should always be adapted ! If they rush Sunfire Aegis, Iceborn Gauntlet and Randuin's Omen, go Blade of the Ruined King + Last Whisper ! If they go full armor Statikk Shiv can help with magic damage and attack speed for true damage ! :D

For now, let's not rush things though, I will wait for you to complete your build a little more and then I'll tell you my thoughts about it.

When I say she's countered easily I was thinking about Jax. Haha. I've always had a hard time dealing with Jax as Irelia but if I get a good gank early on (pre lvl 6) then it's not so hard to deal with him. That's my opinion.

My games as Irelia are usually over right after boots trinity and zephyr so I don't really know if the rest of the items are nesessary. I get GA after that and not warmogs.
I hate thornmail as you hate warmogs and that's why I didnt even bother suggesting it.
After or before GA depending on the enemy team of course I always get Randuins Omen. I love it.


I will also go back and change the Passive chapter as you said 'cause you're absolutely right and I'm bad at math etc :P

Oy, just let me tell you a few tips and corrections !

Her passive

First, I suggest first that you don't recap all the text with your own words, but write it like it is in game with the icon and then analyze it. And make some space, it's a little tough to read !

Secondly, it doesn't work that way ! Since her passive isn't tenacity but a unique passive, and the mastery a unique passive too, it stacks multiplicatively : when you reduce CC by 40%, 60% is left, and 35% of this 60% is reduced, so 65% of this 60% is left, and 15% of this 65% of this 60% is reduced. So, the formula is : 1-(1-0.35)(1-0.15)(1-0.40), which gives her a maximum of 66.85% of tenacity.

Thirdly, as you stated in your introduction, Irelia is somewhat of an assassin (tanky, though), so she can't really be a frontline, not as much as a real tank or bruiser. That said, a good Irelia should always gladly take CC instead of a carry.

Pros and Cons

She has a great damage output for such tankyness, but she'll never be on par with real assassins like Zed that have stupid burst. I think this might be misleading.

"Can be countered easily"... I'm afraid I need to disagree about that. Most match-ups are difficult because she is weak early on and top lane is the ground of lane bullies, but that also mean they have a timer : if they can't shut her down before her level 9, they are doomed. The only one that would really counter her would be Jax who can both outlane and outscale her.

Build, runes and masteries

There's a lot of explanation you've yet to do, but I can already feel something's missing.

Like magic resist ! Having 100 of it in late game is simply not enough if you want to survive ! By the way, I can see you only have one build option, but every item is situational : if you are against Fiora/ Tryndamere/ Kayle/whatever support/ Tristana, Thornmail is a must. If you are against Zed, Trundle, Mordekaiser, Kog'Maw and Elise support, Warmog's Armor and HP in general will only increase their damage. If you are against Vladimir, Sejuani, Ryze, Urgot and Zyra, don't bother with Randuin's Omen...

Also, you need to counter itemize : Warmog's Armor (I hate this item xD) is bad against Liandry's Torment, however Blade of the Ruined King nullifies and is nullified by Randuin's Omen.
