Runes & Summoner Spells

Runes & Summoner Spells

Jarvan thrives with Conqueror as his core keystone – it stacks effortlessly through Q > AA > E combos, granting AD and healing in extended skirmishes. Among all choices, it's the most versatile in fights and reliable for snowballing leads.
Triumph is irreplaceable on Jarvan. Securing takedowns grants crucial healing – perfect for tower dives or chaotic skirmishes. The others are too passive or mana-based to suit his bursty, dive-heavy playstyle.
Legend: Alacrity accelerates combo speed and early clear efficiency. Tenacity is matchup-specific, and Bloodline is often too slow. Choose Alacrity unless you're facing 4+ hard CCs.
Coup de Grace closes kills faster and synergizes perfectly with Jarvan’s ult. The extra damage ensures your R+AA+Q burst executes low-health targets before they can flash or peel.
Magical Footwear saves gold and lets you spike mythics earlier. The bonus movement speed pairs great with your engage style. Alternatives are too niche for most matchups.
Cosmic Insight = more Smite + Flash plays. It's simple: lower cooldowns = more pressure. Jarvan thrives on availability, and this rune gives it to you.
Start with Attack Speed for better jungle clear, Adaptive Force for early trades,
and Scaling Health for efficient durability into late game.

If you're expecting an early invade or heavy level 3 skirmish (e.g. Elise, Lee Sin),
consider swapping Scaling Health for Armor or Flat Health.

Summoner Spells

Flash is non-negotiable. It enables critical E+Q engage combos and Flash+R picks.
Whether you're invading or escaping, this spell wins games by creating or avoiding high-impact plays.
Smite is your jungle license. It lets you secure camps, contest objectives, and unlock jungle items.
Always upgrade to Mosstomper Smite (Green Smite) for tenacity and durability during dives and frontlines.

Plated Steelcaps
Against AD auto-attackers like Yasuo, Master Yi, Vayne. Solid frontline option.
Mercury's Treads
Versus CC and magic-heavy comps ( Morgana, Lissandra, Veigar).
Boots of Swiftness
Helps vs slows like Nasus Wither, and makes EQ more consistent.
Ionian Boots of Lucidity
Cheap, high tempo – best when snowballing early on.

Armor Items

Thornmail
Anti-heal and armor in one. Essential vs Aatrox, Warwick, Fiora.
Randuin's Omen
Reduces crits and gives active slow – use vs Yasuo, Yone, and ADCs.
Guardian Angel
Great late-game option when you're fed or drawing aggro.
Death's Dance
Risky but rewarding anti-burst item if ahead – delays damage intake.

Magic Resist Items

Spirit Visage
Top-tier MR. Increases healing from runes/items – perfect synergy.
Kaenic Rookern
Great vs poke-heavy AP comps like Zeri, Zoe, Xerath.
Abyssal Mask
Strong with AP allies – reduces enemy MR for your team.

Mixed & Situational

Jak'Sho, The Protean
Scales well with long fights – great when your team lacks frontline.
Unending Despair
Niche pick vs health stackers – healing in extended fights.

Gameplay

Early – Mid Game

During the early game, Jarvan IV excels at high-pressure jungle control and early skirmishes thanks to his powerful + combo. Start with Smite and Flash, and path towards level 3 for early gank potential. A standard clear starts with , into , then by level 3 for strong 1v1 and gank setups.

Use in the jungle to boost your attack speed and clear camps faster. Once level 3, look to gank lanes with poor mobility. The EQ combo (E > Q) knocks up enemies, giving your laners a window to follow up. Always position your behind the enemy for better angles, and make sure not to miss the connect — or you lose your engage.

When contesting early Scuttle Crab or setting up an invade, your burst and CC give you an edge. If the enemy jungler shows elsewhere, quickly take Dragon with your bot lane’s help. Use to tank damage and slow enemies if they rotate. Early game snowballs hard if you manage to get a kill and secure objectives.

Jarvan IV also thrives when coordinating dives. Drop into range, buffer your through a wall or minions, and combo in. Use post-engage to mitigate tower aggro and secure the kill safely.

Your goal in this phase: force Drake fights, gank often, and get your Eclipse or Sundered Sky online before mid game.

Mid – Late Game

In the mid game, your job is to start fights, pick off key targets, and secure Rift Herald or Dragon. You should be looking to flank or engage from fog of war using your EQ combo. Hide in side brushes or jungle paths, then collapse with to trap multiple enemies — or isolate priority targets.

When teamfighting, start by engaging with into , then immediately follow up with to lock targets inside. If your team has AoE follow-up, this is the ideal setup. Alternatively, if you’re peeling for carries, hold your and use defensively to zone divers or assassins.

With Eclipse and Sundered Sky in your inventory, you deal high burst while still sustaining through fights. Eclipse provides shield and mobility for chasing or escaping, while Sundered Sky enables extended dueling with its heal on heavy engage combos.

You now have a bigger mana pool and low cooldowns, so spam your skills wisely. Use to buff your team’s attack speed in fights and objectives. If you're running Conqueror, longer fights benefit you greatly — sustain and damage ramp up fast.

Defensively, adapt based on enemy comp. Frozen Heart is amazing vs auto attackers, reducing their DPS and granting you armor and mana. Spirit Visage boosts your healing from runes and items (like Sundered Sky), and Thornmail applies anti-heal to shut down champions like Aatrox or Warwick.

Once you’ve secured a pick or a teamfight win, rotate quickly to Dragon, Baron Nashor, or structures. A well-placed in a choke point or under tower can win the fight instantly or delay the enemy's push.

Your late game power lies in your ability to dictate engages. Whether diving into their backline or zoning carries with your ult, always leverage your cooldowns, vision control, and item spikes to lead your team to victory.

Mechanics

Mechanics

In this section, we’ll go over some key mechanics and micro-tips that make Jarvan IV effective at every level of play. While he isn’t the most mechanically demanding jungler, mastering these tricks will separate you from the rest.

E+Q Flash Engage
You can extend Jarvan’s reach by casting Demacian Standard Dragon Strikethen Flash mid-dash.
This makes it harder to dodge and lets you gap-close from angles enemies don’t expect.
Try it from over walls or into the backline to isolate carries like Caitlyn or Zeri.

Level 2 Ganking Power
Jarvan is one of the few junglers who can gank effectively at level 2.
Use Demacian Standard + Dragon Strike as soon as you unlock both.
This works especially well against immobile champs like Viktor, Zeri, or early squishies like Lux.

Passive Jungle Clearing
Jarvan’s passive, Martial Cadence, deals % max HP damage on his first AA to each target.
Switch targets between camps (like Red → Krug) to trigger it multiple times for faster clears.

Ultimate Canceling – Recast Cataclysm
Did you know you can recast Cataclysm to break the terrain early?
This is great to avoid trapping teammates or to reset the battlefield for re-engage.
Use it reactively if an ally needs to escape or reposition.

Maximize Shield Value – Golden Aegis
Golden Aegis gives bonus shielding for each enemy champion nearby.
Use it after diving into a team to maximize the shield and survive burst damage.
It's especially clutch when comboing into multiple targets.

Demacian Standard = Buff, Not Just a Combo Tool
Jarvan’s Demacian Standard grants attack speed to nearby allies.
Drop it pre-fight to empower your ADC (like Jinx or Aphelios) and improve your team's DPS.
It’s not just for engaging!

Combo Variations
Adapt your combos based on situation:

Objective Securing
Jarvan’s fast clear and dueling power allow him to secure early dragon or rift herald.
Use vision + E/Q combos to check pits and engage if the enemy is contesting.

Avoid Anti-Mobility Abilities
Be mindful of champions that counter engages:
Nasus Wither, Lissandra’s Ring of Frost, or Poppy’s Steadfast Presence will ruin your day.
Wait out key cooldowns or flank to minimize risk.

Communicate Your Ultimate
Cataclysm can trap allies if misused. Ping ahead of time and combo with AoE champs like Kennen, Miss Fortune, or Malphite for synergy – not disaster.
