None of you seem to understand that Kat, as a burst-oriented champion, has no use whatsoever of Liandry's burn passive. Haunting Guise, on the other hand, is a decent early-mid game item if you're looking for a cheap source of MPen, making it an ideal purchase when behind. That doesn't mean you're obligated to upgrade it, so if you're looking for a source of reducing the enemy MR you should replace it with Abyssal as it synergizes better with Kat's kit. Also, both Gunblade and Rylai's are no-nos.

-It doesn't honestly increase your sustain on Katarina and you have your Shunpo to dodge abilities which make you already more mobile and harder to harass. Getting some from the defensive tree will forgive some harass without you having to pay anything for it.
- Doran's Shield is probably the best item for Katarina at the moment due to the fact that you can only harass her effectively with your basic attacks which are reduced by the Doran's Shield. It also gives you EFFECTIVE HP and health regeneration.
- Katarina does actually follow pretty soon after someone has initiated because you usually have the highest kill potential. This is why you should look for opportunities instead of trusting your teammates and let them deal most of the damage. It isn't suicidal if you know what you are doing.
-Spell Vamp as a stat is bad on Katarina due to it only giving part of the health that it would usually give. This is why you should just go for something more effective like Deathfire Grasp, Void Staff, Zhonya's Hourglass and Rabadon's Deathcap.
-I was basically praising [haunting guise here. It makes your early game far easier with a little money and it increases your damage in the early-mid gamemore than Void Staff does. This is why I would take it over Void Staff. And if you are so loyal to the pros you would believe when they say that Void Staff isn't nearly as good early game item as other items are.
-About the Liandry's Torment explanations:
I was praising Haunting Guise. You only get Liandry's Torment as your last item.

Why the hell would anyone even consider Liandry's on Katarina is beyond me.

What's up with the Joffrey Baratheon avatar? Do you admire him or something? Replied back to your statements on the guide, by the way. Enjoy.

1. Starting items - nope. Boots start offers you nothing and your laning is already weak against some certain targets.
2. Void Staff first - nope. You don't need percent penetration. Flat is superior in the early game. You could also get something actually useful to do something in the early-mid game and get even more fed.
3. Hextech Gunblade - nope. You have 4 AoE skills which reduce the healing. You could also just increase your burst or survivability for less money and more useful stats.
4. Rylai's Crystal Scepter - nope. You honestly do NOT need the slow for anything. In the teamfights you very seldom get into chasing situations and even then it doesn't help because Shunpo has the highest range of your skills and sinister steel should do when you are chasing.
5. I also disagree with Alchemist and Culinary Master .

I can assure you that the benefits of doing this are immense and I can guarantee you will see the difference in your huge damage output of your ultimate. Tanks are always either as support, top or jungle. The support tank will always build armor as he needs to try counter the continuously growing output of the AD carry. The jungler will always go for his jungle items first, like Spirit of the Ancient Golem or Feral Flare. None of these jungle items grant Magic Resist. Top tanks like Singed, Malphite or Shen will usually start building Armour items first, as Spirit Visage and Banshee's Veil are usually the third, forth or fifth item they buy. This means that all tanks will start off with low base Magic Resist stats, only a bit higher than an AD carry or an AP carry due to their scaling MR blues (most likely). By having so much magic penetration early, even tanks will not be able to withstand the full rage of Katarina's Death Lotus. This means that you get more kills early on, and when the tanks start to then build their Magic resist items, you will already be getting your Hextech Gunlade, which means that you gain health as you use your ultimate, making it almost impossible for them to kill you. Choosing to get it as one of your final items to counter the opponent's tanks Magic Resist may already be too late, as your damage output will be reduced by a lot during the time you are trying to get your Void Staff, which will lead to many deaths and failed attempts to carry your team.

My ********-meter just broke. Let's compare these two items: Void Staff and Haunting Guise. Void Staff reduces the magic resist by 40% and Haunting Guise 15 FLAT. Let's say the enemy has that 30 base magic resist. In this case Void Staff reduces magic resist by 12 and Haunting Guise by 15. Haunting Guise's build path and stats are also far better in the early game anyways.
7. Your explanation about Katarina not needing any defensive masteries/runes is just stupid. Of course they help. Ahri can't dish out that much damage without Spirit Rush and Deathfire Grasp.
8. Liandry's Torment explanation is also wrong. Liandry's Torment won't finish anyone off and it is good for melee mages, too. Also it's build path is in Katarina's favour.
9. The definition of "hypercarry" is that she/he is far more useful than anyone else if she/he gets fed and she/he will be useful even if she/he is behind.

I really play katarina occasionally, not much knowledge to share, but I think rylai's and hextech are both extremely expensive and useless till they are built completely, which is essentially means, that they are not good for when you're behind.
That's just a thought not sure about it :)

Thought the Hextech Gunblade and Rylai's Crystal Scepter is dead on Katarina since the rework...

I'm aware that you haven't finished it yet, that is why 4 nd 5 are questions and suggestions. The rest though has nothing to do with your guide, but the way you play Katarina, I just tried to explain what I believe to be better choices .-.

I just started this guide today, and it's my first guide I have ever done. Give me some time! It's far from done! :)

Nice guide, very detailed and well explained despite some contradictions, but just a few things I wanted to say:
1. Culinary Master is definitely a weird choice for Katarina, also because Ignite will reduce the healing, maybe Runic Affinity or even Vampirism would be a better choice for me.

2. Don't you think that greater mark of hybrid penetration would be better? Specially because you are building some AD as well, besides you only lose 0.2 magic pen but gain a lot of armor pen. Also, you are already building a lot of ability power on Katarina but almost no magic resist. I think that Greater Glyph of Magic Resist would be a better choice because Katarina will often find herself in a hard time early game laning against ranged APCs.

3. Seriously, no Liandry's Torment? This is one of the best items in Katarina, it provides her both magic penetration, what you said is great early game against tanks and also gives her health making her harder to kill, and the passive... specially if someone flashes your ult or try to get away almost dead. I would choose to finish this item first over Void Staff because you don't need that much magic pen early game, the amount Sorcerer's Shoes and Liandry's Torment provides is enough.

4. Will you explain better the summoner spells? There is no note, other options and etc.

5. A match up section would be really nice as well.
