Hello, and welcome to my guide on 
Katarina The sinister blade. This in-depth guide will tell you how to improve your play, as well as improving your knowledge with Katarina. In this guide you will learn team comps, runes and masteries, items, how to farm well with Katarina and also learning what to do in a teamfight.

Summoner Spells
When playing Katarina I like to take flash to ensure that if I get caught in a sticky place without my Shunpo and a
. I can quickly escape from anything necessary.
I like to take Ignite on Katarina because if I dont get the kill and someone escapes with a few health, this spell will change the situation. Lets look at an example:
The enemy Gragas is in lane. I Bouncing Blades and use Shunpo to close the gap. Following up with Death Lotus he is about to escape with a few health. I tag him with Ignite and it picks up the kill as he tries to Body Slam away.

Runes & Masteries

Runes
For runes I like to go for Ability Power Quints and Ability Power Blues, to give the extra power in the
early lane. Reds of Magic Pen. to allow me to cut through the defenses early. Finally I split my yellows between Armor and MR. Any variation of armor and MR will work but I prefer to take 4 Armor Yellows and 5 MR Yellows since usually in an AP lane.Masteries

For my abilities I max Bouncing Blades first, taking points of Sinister Steel in between. Lastly I max Shunpo, and take points in Death Lotus at levels 6,11,and 16

Farming
When farming with Katarina there are a few things you need to know. You cant just run up and start auto attacking minions, if the enemy laner has a brain they will start to harass you. Instead try to let the minions push. Then hit use your Bouncing Blades and Sinister Steel combo to get them. This needs to happen throughout the game. If you cant get close enough to use your Sinister Steel then just farm using your Bouncing Blades.

Team Comps
Lets take a look at a team comp that can be used to give Katarina her most deadly potential. We need a team with high CC to allow Katarina to use her full Death Lotus.
Lets try this comp:
A Malphite top will give us the Unstoppable Force engage with a really hard knockup in that engage.
jarvan4
A jarvan4 will give us the strong knockup as well as the lock down from Cataclysm.
An Ashe will give the a strong stun from Enchanted Crystal Arrow to the target it hits, and slow the targets around it.
Zyra brings a root in her Grasping Root and also a strong team-wide knockup in her Stranglethorns.
With this comp Katarina will be able to get a full combo on any target she wants because of the constant CC that the enemy will be facing. All the knockups will allow her to get that full Death Lotus that every Katarina wants to be able to get.

In ranked play make sure that the Katarina pick fits the following criteria.

The enemy team doesn't have Vi/Malphite that can just ult straight to you.
If that is true you should be able to play Katarina effectively. When fighting do not go in immediately. Instead wait a couple of seconds until you see key CC blown by the enemy team. A Zyra Stranglethorns is an example of when you would go in. Right after that is gone, throw out one Bouncing Blades, then Shunpo into Death Lotus. If done correctly the squishy that you went for should be dead. Then continue to use Bouncing Blades, sinister steel and Shunpo whenever you get the reset to do so.
