Introduction

Welcome people to my guide on Leona the Radiant Dawn. this is also my first guide for a champion. You have all the right to use parts of this guide or change it your way. I hope this guide will be usefull for you guys but i can't promise you that following this guide will make you a pro Leona player. This is also my way of building Leona. i appreciate any kind of feedback to make this guide even beter. So the first question that many people ask me:

why do you play Leona?
there's one answer: she has the best stun and slow combo as support in the game + she is very tanky.
But first we will discuss the pros and cons of leona.

Pros / Cons

Pros

+ tanky
+ good crowd control
+ great stun and slow
+ good initiator with Zenith Blade
+ doesn't get banned often in ranked plays
SPACE
Cons

- low damage
- needs good AD carry with fast reflexes
- Solar Flare comes with practice
- if she got banned in ranked plays you're f*cked

Masteries

1 Offense / 6 Defence / 23 Utility

Offence
I like to use 1 mastery point in Offence ( ) because it boosts your exhaust (or ignite if you use that skill).
SPACE
Defence
6 points in defence, 3 in and 3 in because leona acts more tanky late game, so it's very usefull to have some magic resist and armor. It also boosts your runes more.
SPACE
Utility
I take 23 points in Utility because it has some good passive skills like, and those are very usefull as support you will need some gold and experience because your AD carry will take all the gold and experience and , are in total 21% CDR and CDR is great for leona because her skills have long cooldowns and with that 21% CDR you can initiate more so that means more assists and gold

Runes

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush

I take this rune because it gives leona some more skill power so she can still hurt her opponents a bit.

I take those 2 runes because it gives leona more survivability and sustain in the lane. With these runes she can also play a more tanky role in the early game and later on she will have a more tanky role then support.

this rune is a MOST HAVE because leona does need gold but she is a support so she can't farm/feed herself so this rune will be very usefull to have.

Skill Sequence

In this chapter i will explain leona's combos of stunning and slowing, most of leona's skills comes with some practice so be patient :) but first i will give you some details about her skills

Sunlight - Damaging spells afflict enemies with Sunlight for 3.5 seconds. When allied Champions deal damage to those targets, they consume the Sunlight debuff to deal additional magic damage.

Shield of Daybreak - Leona uses her shield to perform her next basic attack, dealing bonus magic damage and stunning the target.
The next basic attack deals an additional 40/70/100/130/160 (+0.3) magic damage and stuns an enemy for 1.25 seconds.
Cost
45/50/55/60/65 Mana

Eclipse - Leona raises her shield to gain Armor and Magic Resistance. When the duration first ends, if there are nearby enemies she will deal magic damage to them and prolong the duration of the effect.
Gains 30/40/50/60/70 bonus Armor and Magic Resist for 3 seconds. When the effect ends, nearby enemies struck take 60/110/160/210/260 (+0.4) magic damage and Leona retains her bonus Armor and Magic Resist for 3 seconds.
Cost
60 Mana

Zenith Blade - Leona projects a solar image of her sword, dealing magic damage to all enemies in a line. When the image fades, the last enemy champion struck will be briefly immobilized and Leona will dash to them.
Strikes all enemies in a line dealing 60/100/140/180/220 (+0.4) magic damage. The last enemy Champion struck will be briefly rooted and Leona will dash to them.
Cost
60 Mana

Solar Flare - Leona calls down a beam of solar energy, dealing damage to enemies in an area. Enemies in the center of the area are stunned, while enemies on the outside are slowed.
Calls down a radiant beam of solar energy dealing 150/250/350 (+0.8) magic damage and slowing enemies by 80% for 1.5 seconds. Enemies in the center of the flare are stunned instead of slowed.
Cost
100/150/200 Mana

Now i will tell you guys how to use the skills in an combo (my way of playing leona)

the best combo in my opinion is to cast Zenith Blade from a bush into the enemy (most of the time the AD carry) while you are casting your Zenith Blade you cast Eclipse when you are pulled to your enemy by Zenith Blade your Eclipse will burst and after that you cast Shield of Daybreak the opponent is now stunned and your carry will kill the enemy . If you are in late game you can cast after Shield of Daybreak, Solar Flare to add some more stun :D

The passive of leona Sunlight is actually a good CC skill because it afflict enemy's with sunlight and if you pull yourself to the enemy team in a teamfight with Zenith Blade and then cast Solar Flare the enemy is now inflicted with sunlight and your teammates will get bonus magic damage on the enemy + the enemy is slowed or even stunned. that's what we call an easy kill for your team :)

Summoner Spells

This chapter is actually very unnecessary because summoner spells depent on wich way you play or wich way your team plays but the best summoner spells to play with leona are:

this summoner spell is always usefull to escape through walls or to get in range to cast your spell, that skill is Zenith Blade for leona to drag you to the enemy and then stun the enemy with Shield of Daybreak so your team can finish the opponent off.

this skill will help you slow the enemy and increase the damage output on your team to that enemy. i prefer this above ignite because you're a support so you don't need to finish off people.

Items

In this chapter i will tell you about the items i take for building leona :)

_________________________________________________________________________________________

I always start of with this build:

sight ward
I take Boots because they give me more chance to escape and chase and sight ward because that's necessary as support and then 1 [health potion] and 1 [mana potion] for survivability / sustain in the lane.

_________________________________________________________________________________________

In the early laning phase i recommend to get:

philosopher's stone
Heart of Gold and philosopher's stone gives you sustain in lane with more health and more hp regen and mana regen and it also provides more gold per 10 seconds. I take Ninja Tabi to be more of an tanky support because you get less damage from basic attacks and more armor and ofcourse tenacity.

_________________________________________________________________________________________

In mid-game i take some more supportive items:

Aegis of the Legion is a MUST HAVE it's the best support item there is because it gives armor, magic resist and damage to your team and you build it out of [ruby crystal]. Then i take Kindlegem to build with philosopher's stone an Shurelya's Battlesong because it gives me some health and hp regen and it gives my team CDR and i can give them bonus movement speed for some seconds to let them escape or chase enemies. you can also take zeke's herald instead of Shurelya's Battlesong but that depends on how your team has build their champion or if they ask you to build it. I also take Warden's Mail to be more tanky.

_________________________________________________________________________________________

Finishing off the build late-game:

I build late-game always more tanky because that's what your team wants you to do late-game so i build Randuin's Omen out of Warden's Mail and Heart of Gold because it gives everything what a tank needs and it can slow the attack speed of your opponents so it's also a good support item. after that i take Locket of the Iron Solari because in late-game you get some more teamfights and with Locket of the Iron Solari you can shield your team to crush the opponents :D and then i finish the build off with Sunfire Aegis to get even more tanky and to get some AoE damage.

Summary

I will constantly add more and more details on skills, items and play styles as the days/weeks/months go by. I hope i have been a help for you how to build leona and how to play her. I really appreciate some feedback to make this guide better than it is now.
