This guy has some sort of all-in at lvl2 that can be pretty dangerous given Mord's semi-squishy start. His sustain outdoes yours early and his attack speed wrecks your passive shield generation at early levels. However, you do must kill him before lvl6, since afterward it gets much trickier due to his ezmode ult. A solution is to run a rune page that has flat armor seals, AS WELL as flat hp glyphs. Dont run Doran's Shield vs him since his abilities are mainly debuffs or aoe. Ninja Tabi pls. Randuinss + Thornmail if necessary. We're dealing with a Grade A newb champ here. Try to engage him only when his red rage bar is low. The more poke damage you're able to do to him, the less damage he will be able to output during an all-in, since he'll have to use all his rage to heal.
Garen
Pie. Around lvl6, even if I haven't started winning lane yet, I start referring to Garen in all-chat as "my son" or "my boy," which is highly amusing. You can actually go with a Q start for Garen since he has to be in melee range to farm. Best part is if you've already cast your Q before he uses his silence, all three empowered hits will go off anyway! Because of this, it's actually worth considering lvling Q before W versus Garen, though the DOT aspect of your W defies his silence as well. After lvl6 just make sure to get your Giant's Belt or equivelant HP item so he can't Villian/ult you.
Illaoi
This guy is OP town USA. Jk, just her ult is. Honestly, you should be able to do fine in lane vs Illaoi, provided you can reliably dodge her E. The tricky part is going all in to try and secure kills. Pre 6 you're both generally a bit too tanky for any kills to happen. And, though I'm loathe to admit it, Illaoi's post-6 all-in seems to outdo Mord's. The problem is that as Mord, once you've started going all in it's difficult to pull off a brief disengage and then continue fighting, which is what you must when Illaoi ults you. You cannot stand in the middle of her ult and expect to live. Use your W to grab a quick heal and run away. Once her ult is finished then you can execute your all-in and crush her.
Heimerdinger
LOL! First time I faced a Heim I thought, "Oh gosh a Heim! And I but a lowly Mord! Whatever wilst I do?" At around lvl6 I realized that his turrets provide mord with the full 100% heal off of his W. GG! All of your basic spells actually work really well to destroy his turrets. Q first isn't a bad choice since the auto-attack reset allows you to one-shot his guns. Allow him to think he has a fighting chance, then at 6 R+Ignite to your heart's delight.
Aatrox
This guy is tricky in the same way Tryndamere is. Fast autos make it so your shield can't keep up. But mainly, his sustain destroys you if you allow him to get ahead. He is not as dangerous as Trynd in the earlier levels, but probably more so in lvls6-11 due to the sustain outpacing your own. Of course his passive makes it so your ult can't finish him either. For this matchup, run the armor seals + HP glyphs page for the early domination, and I would also consider a Cunning mastery build that includes "Merciless" since it counters the sustain on his W.
Nasus
KEK! Mord is the natural counter to Nasus and should be picked every time you see one. Feel free to fully level E first for the lolz, (unless you're worried about dat jgler) since it will make Nasus' Q farm a living nightmare. Level Q or W first is fine too, this guy is just complete trash vs Master Mord. The trick is just to remember not to develop a vendetta against him and target him in teamfights. He'll be useless and you should target other people ^_^
Irelia
Another lolz matchup. You'd think she'd stand a fair chance since she's a sustain-o-matic sort of gal, but no, twas not to be. Her sustain relies on being able to auto you, and after the first 10 seconds of lane, she will be too afraid to do so. Lvl3 difficulty instead of lvl1 because I've never actually faced an Irelia who has had the grapes to use Q on me even once. I'm honestly not even sure what would happen if I got Q'd by an Irelia, so she gets bonus difficulty because of that.
Pantheon
Panth is known as a high dmg Top lane bully. Not vs Mord! This guy is another bruiser turned kitty cat when laning vs. Him. He's mana reliant, so I would advise that you just farm/sustain your way to lvl6 and then fully wreck him. If he tries to all in you early, then by all means ctrl+4 and destroy to your heart's content. I guess the only tricky part is that his Q is an auto-targeted ability meaning that if you're in range he will automatically damage you with it. The reason Mord rex him is because you can simply counter this by using your E on him first. Your 15% shield will negate his Q and he will cry. Don't hang out in lane if you're really low HP due to his E passive. Go south to cheese some HP from Gromp if necessary.
Renekton
Renekton is another of those scary, high damage/high HP top lane bullies who can put high pressure on their enemy laner and force them into submission - WRONG!! Another example of the current top lane paradigm being flipped on it's head by Mordy. As with Trynd, if you're not feeling dominant, just watch out for that rage bar and only engage for trades when it's low and your shield is high. Tricky to say whether Doran's Shield or Ruby Crystal is the better start here - could even be that an Amplifying Tome start could ensure his submission.
Ryze
I want so bad to be able to say that Mord just pwns Ryze, but alas tis not so. His range is short, but he's still ranged. Early game you have absolutely no issue - he just wants to farm and he'll let you do the same. What you must be careful of in this matchup is any window of time where he's got his 1st powerspike item and you've not got your Rylai's yet (which is critical vs. Ryze). If he can dps you from afar and you have no Rylai's there's basically nothing you can do. Tricky to determine whether to go Rylai's or Abyssal first in this matchup. Basically, Abyssal first will allow you to not die, whereas Rylai's might allow you to secure kills. I *might* recommend early boots of travel/swiftness after a Rylai's, to allow you to sneak up on him.
Yasuo
Kek, kek and more KEK!!! I have nothing but respek for Yasuo, being a high skill champ n' all, but Mord just crushes this guy! He starts the game thinking "well I've got a passive shield too lololol"...Wrong thought process buddy. Keep your W DOT cast on your minions and it completely screws Yasi's E. Without his E being a reliable tool, he then turns to his W - uh oh, it only blocks one of our abilities, the one we level last. That leaves him with his Q to mess with us which is, shall we say, quite insufficient. Dodge his tornados (not that he will R you if he's wise) and you're golden.
Zed
That's why I love this champ. He is the antithesis to soooooo many of the current meta OPs. Zed amounts to nothing more than Mord's court jester once you're done with him in lane. What a joke. By level 6 he won't even DREAM of using R on you, so don't worry about that. Just put 1 point into E and use it on him constantly. W to sustain, and Q to last hit and during all in. Lol what a laugh.
Viktor
As with all ranged AP champs, just build early MR and farm. He will be doing much the same, so you shouldn't have much to worry about. It is important to either dodge his E, or constantly have enough shield to absorb it, cause it will chunk you otherwise. If that happens, go pay our Raptor friends a visit for a friendly W, and return to lane. EZPZ.
Dr. Mundo
Woof. I feel bad after playing this lane, seriously. Spend lvl1 pressing E in his general direction. Spend lvl2 running through his minion line with W active and rejoicing. Spend lvl3 Q'ing him to death and typing fervently in all-chat. In seriousness, you should just stand in your minions to dodge his Q early. If he does a melee engage early, give him your all-in + ctrl4. Once you start pwning him, make sure to stand *in front* of your own injured minions so that his Q hits you instead of last hitting the minny.
Shen
I'm not sure this guy even demands an explanation. He can't do anything to you and he should just go home.
Talon
Oh yes, same story as Yas and the other AD melee mid champs. You take him from being a scary threat into your own personal bag of jokes. You do have to dodge his Q in early trades, so do that and you win.
Akali
What a wimp! Classically, Akali "waits til lvl6 to get good" so as Mord we will naturally use that to our advantage to disgrace her completely. Not sure her W even merits a vision ward - just use your W and E to try and hit her and she will pop out to allow you to finish.
Teemo
Teemo could actually give you a run for your money. Obviously just make sure not to level Q first, since his blind will counter it completely. His range is short, so if you can get on top of him with an active W, you should have a Teemo head adorning your cabin in no time at all. Once you've got ult+ignite you might as well be facing beginner bots.
Trundle
Trundle is another notorious top-lane high damage bruiser who can grief other tank/bruiser's effectively. Sadly, in this case, that remains true for Mord as well. His ult provides similar benefits to yours. However, his ult is far superior when it comes to straight dueling. His W provides him with further buffs, and Q debuffs you slightly, so all around just not a pretty matchup. Best advice is to just not trade with him while his W is active. You can hold down your lane for sure, and farm no problem, but you won't be utilizing the typical "I am MORD, fear me" strategy.
Azir
Another lane where you'll unfortunately want to play a bit more passively. He can screw you from afar, and as they say, Azir is a high skill cap champ, so a true super saiyan may be able to give you quite a hard time. Soldiers untargetable so no W heal - I would advise frequent heal trips to raptors, gromp and the like. Wait for your Rylai's/Abyssal and ult combo to murdakaiser him.
Sion
In theory, Sion shouldn't prove too much of a problem. However, his abilities fire differently than a lot of champs, making them unpredictable and tough to dodge. Early scariness can ensue if he pokes you a lot, especially if he's going AP. Learn his wave pattern and dodge accordingly. Make sure to build the proper resist!
Diana
Kekeke. The only time her passive will be going off is while she's farming minions, since she won't be able to hit you 3x in a row ever. Try not to trigger her pale cascade double shield, since that may give her the edge she needs. Her E deals no damage, and she will not be using on you anyway, so that gives you an edge during lane phase. At lvl6, if she tries to jump on you, you know what to do. The only way she could be trouble is if she can ult you, do her combo, and ult away to a minion or something before you're able to combo her back. Get some MR/HP obviously since at lvl6 she does hit hard.
Vladimir
His passive is somewhat similar to Mord's, in that if he chooses to build entirely AP, he can still be somewhat tanky. His sustain is better than ours, but that only really becomes an issue later in the game. Your ult/ignite combo can ruin his day, just try to cast it on him right after he's used sanguine pool so that he can't hide from any of the damage. Before lvl6, you may want to join him in farming lane - that's all he will be trying to do.
