Introduction: Why Play Nocturne Mid?
So why play Nocturne mid? Well, mid lane is a good choice for assassins like Katerina, Zed, and Leblanc. It is a snowballing lane with access to every other lane (jungle, top, and bot). Playing Nocturne as an assassin allows you to quickly eliminate your enemy at mid and snowball. Not only that, with your ultimate, you are able to quickly gank top or bot just like Twisted Fate to help out other lanes or snowball even harder.
Mid lane is the shortest lane, which allows your to retreat easier as well as set up ganks better because there are so many possible ways for your jungler to gank you.
Nocturne's R does a lot of damage. Coupling that with your Q, E, auto, and Electrocute, you are able to kill an squishy within seconds.
But why play Nocturne instead of other assassins? Nocturne is a safer pick because you have a spell shield that can block virtually all spells in league of legends of timed correctly. Nocturne also offers a CC, his E can fear his opponents for up to 2.25 seconds. Your ultimate applies an enormous pressure similar to Kindred's mark or Rengar's ultimate. People cannot anticipate who will be attacked when they lose vision so sometimes, rarely, you are able to use your ult to help teammates escape dangerous situations or even turn a situation around.
Overall, if you enjoy killing a squishy under 2 seconds then you should definitely try this out.
Always max Q first because it is your damage ability. Plus, the trail provides you with extra AD and movement speed. Good for chasing or running. Get your E second and if possible, fight level 2. People don't expect your level 2 to be strong. With a Q, E, autos, and Electrocute, you can generally cut them down to half health or even a kill with Ignite.
When you ult, make sure to drop your Q a quick moment before you hit the enemy so that your R gets the Q AD bonus.
Additionally, your level 3 is also great. Your W blocks an ability, which negates a huge chunk of your enemy's damage in early game. No matter what, level 2 or level 3, if you are confident and go all in, you can get a kill or a flash.

Level 1 should be trying to push a bit so by the time level 2 hits, you can go in.
Stay aggressive and ward. Know that if you can get kills in lane then abuse that. Once you know that you can push in your wave and your opponent will not push back, then start roaming.
Furthermore, your passive allows you to heal off of every single minion you hit so position yourself to get the maximum heal. Your passive later on is basically a Tiamat.
After level 6, you can pretty much gank bot nonstop. Nocturne mid is pretty much a scarier TF mid where the moment you ult, everyone is backing off. Abuse that as well.
If you fall behind then try to farm as much as you can without ulting and dying.
