Welcome to Season 8: Runes Reforged

Basically this build does not only apply to Xin Zhao (this is my current staple runes for him) but also to other high-mobility junglers with leaps, dashes, or even stealth. Champions like Lee Sin, Kha'Zix, Kayn, or Evelynn may benefit from this Rune build.

So without further ado, let's dive into the logic behind it.

First off you are in a Domination- Sorcery path (a not-so-common combo right now) with a focus on becoming a high mobility jungler for the team. This enables you to have swift roams and deadly dives. It unlocks that assassin/fighter burst potential to hunt down enemy squishies.

Runes Reforged: Domination (Primary)

Let's first look at your primary path: Domination

----

For your Major Rune we have Predator.

This magically enables you to have an activatable boots that, after channeling for 1.5 seconds out of combat, grants a large boost of MS and bonus adaptive damage on your next attack/ability. The channel is interrupted if you take any damage, of course. But yes, you can channel it while moving, so there's no need to stop before sprinting into battle.

This rune is perfect for that well-timed engage or for hunting in the map. The only downside here is its long cooldown of 180-120 seconds, but if you know when to engage and start a fight this works wonders as the bonus damage from Predator boots is massive, with 60 - 180 (+0.4 bonus AD)(+0.25 AP) bonus adaptive damage.

----

Couple that with your Minor Rune: Sudden Impact.

Sudden Impact grants 10 Lethality and 8 Magic Penetration for 5 seconds when damaging a champion after exiting stealth or using a dash, leap, blink, or a teleport. After which it goes into a short 4 second cooldown.

Combining this with Predator is really good. This works pretty well with skills such as Xin Zhao's Audacious Charge. Also, combining it with items like Statikk Shiv gives a huge burst of damage from a single skill/attack.

----

Next minor rune would be Eyeball Collection. You'd be hunting down wards in the jungle and killing champions from ganks. This means having you can complete your collection very fast as a jungler.

Basically, you gain +1 Ability Power or +0.6 Attack Damage (adaptive, as usual) permanently on champion takedown, and half of that on ward takedowns, up to a total of 20 eyeballs. Upon completing your collection (a maximum of 20 eyeballs), you also gain an additional 10 AP and 6 AD.

Note: I have yet to confirm if Vel'koz gives you three eyeballs instead. :D

----

Lastly, you should get Ravenous Hunter as it heals you for 2.5% plus an additional 2.5% per Bounty Hunter stack from damage dealt by your abilities.

It grants you additional sustain after a dive, and works well with skills such as Xin Zhao's passive, Determination, remember that the healing is reduced to one third on AoE abilities.

Alternatively, you can get Relentless Hunter if you really really like to have a huge movement speed boost to go along with Predator. Especially if you're using champions other than like Rengar or Evelynn.

Runes Reforged: Sorcery (Secondary)

Now for the secondary path: Sorcery

This grants you a passive (adaptive) +11 attack damage or +18 ability power. Thank you for choosing a secondary path.

Sorcery unlocks additional mobility for your jungler, by choosing these two runes:

----

First up, take Celerity. This rune lets you gain 4% increased Movement Speed and in addition to that, it also adds 8% of your Bonus Movement Speed to your AP or AD. Taking items like Dead Man's Plate along with you will help maximize this rune's potential.

----

And of course, the infamous Waterwalking rune, which grants you additional 25 Movement Speed and up to +30 Ability Power or +18 Attack Damage (based on level) when in the river. This gives a boost of speed when running along the river and visiting lanes. It is also useful when you're out to attack the poor Scuttle Crab. But most importantly, it adds some "oomph" when you're being a good jungler and doing objectives for your team, may it be killing a Rift Herald, a Dragon, or taking down Baron.

General Itemization Guide - Xin Zhao

Early Game

Remember that even though you have Predator as your keystone rune, you don't have to get Boots early. Proceed with a Hunter's Machete and bring along a Refillable Potion in case you need a bit of extra healing with you. Don't forget your trinket.

Once you get back into base, buy your Boots. Meanwhile, I prefer to build Skirmisher's Sabre for Xin Zhao, since we are already building up towards an aggresive mobile build. The vision and burning effect really helps in finishing off mobile enemy champions. Upgrade your Refillable Potion into Hunter's Potion for that added sustain.

By then you're already capable of taking down the Dragon and give the team some buffs.

----
Mid Game

If you are diving into lanes a lot and/or in need of a good wave clear item, you'd best get Statikk Shiv for Xin Zhao. It's also great when diving into the enemy team, contributing damage to multiple targets in the area. With the mobility and attack speed that Xin Zhao have you'd easily have 100 charges on this thing around every 5 seconds. It also has good synergy with the Sudden Impact and Celerity runes.

For boots, I picked Boots of Swiftness for a sustained movespeed and slow resist that works well with Predator.

Skirmisher's Sabre with the Bloodrazor upgrade would also help in taking down tanky champions, adding 4% of your target's max health on your attacks. Not to mention the additional attack speed coupled with your Audacious Charge will throw the enemy airborne with your Three Talon Strike.

Now, there could two options here: Either prioritize Phantom Dancer or Dead Man's Plate. Phantom Dancer greatly boosts Xin Zhao's offensive capabilities while Dead Man's Plate bolsters his defenses. Both items boosts the benefit from your Celerity rune and adds utility to Sudden Impact.

----
Late Game

Completing both Phantom Dancer and Dead Man's Plate will make you very mobile at this point, and you can seal the deal with your final item. You can do away with that Hunter's Potion if you bought it.

Here are some options to round up your build:

Guardian Angel - for those who would dive right into heavy CC enemy team comps for that deciding battle, or for those who are already way ahead of the enemies even with just the five items you already have.

Infinity Edge - Boosting your critical strike chance and critical hit damage will help you delete the enemy faster than you can say "Morellonomicon!"

Trinity Force - Tons of damage.'Nuff said.

Turbo Chemtank - Predator + Turbo Chemtank + Dead Man's Plate + Audacious Charge + Sudden Impact = !!!

Final words... for now.

That's it for now.

I will be adding additional notes here and there, probably a list of some items (with comments) that go well this build. For now I would want you and other players to try this out and would be happy to listen (read, actually) to your feedback and comments from using this build.

Thank you very much for your time, and may the blessings of the Rift Herald be with you all!
