Main issue is her charm, can easily outtrade you if you try to go in. Cleanse/Only going in when she wastes it/Bait it out. After that, she's a free kill, but she'll probably R away.
Mercury Treads are usually a good option against ahri because of her cc. I would normally start E. Dodge her charm with W and go for early kills.
Akali
Try your best to not give her any chance to outtrade you, I'd usually abuse Bush Q in this matchup. Reminder that extended trades, will most likely result in you losing it. If you start losing, look for roams/help. After 6, whoever lands their abilities first, wins. The only reason why this matchup is hard, is because akali is akali.
If you're struggling or feeding go Mercury treads or Plated Steelcaps, otherwise just go Mobility Boots.
Anivia
Right now, as how Anivia is in the meta, she's pretty hard for almost everyone. She's really squishy & you can use her wall as your advantage, she will outpush you post 6.
I suggest Mercury Treads because of her constant CC but if you're ahead just go Mobility Boots.
Annie
Any Annie who knows the matchup will most certainly be a headache, not letting you go in. What you can try and do is simply go in with bush at unexpected times and get a really short trade
However, she can still oneshot you at lvl 6. If you have any way of getting a lead, whether it's roaming or getting early dirk, it'll help a lot more in that factor (one shotting her more).
If you're behind go Plated Steelcaps or Mercury Treads. Otherwise go Mobility Boots.
Aurelion Sol
They will outpush you for first 3 levels but after that you can kill him easily, ward in center of lane to watch for roams early, at 3+ just kill him if he overstays punish him. They will most likely get tankier later on, so take advantages on his early being bad and punish his whole team for it.
Use W/E to dodge. Go mobility Boots.
Azir
Azir, while weak early, heavily outranges you, also his ult is an assassin counter so makes it a lot harder to get onto him, however he is very weak and easy to kill if you do get on top of him and also has fairly long cds in the early game. pre level 6 you can kill him if he wastes his Q (moves his soldiers) at level 6 you should not fight him.
Ult is pretty good and can interrupt your dashes or your all-ins.
Mercury Treads aren't really necessary, use swifties and roam.
Cassiopeia
Cassiopeia will most likely be searching poking down her enemy. Which you have to avoid for the first 2 levels. It's ok if you lose some minions. Trade carefully with bush.
She will be killable with ult after some normal trades. W might get you killed, so also work around it's CD.
Go Mercury Treads for more Damage.
Corki
Corki is a late game monster, but still is a ranged champ and can basically poke you out of lane or even kill you. Don't get poked too much. Wait for your level 3 and all in him. Try not to use your E till he uses his little dash (w) so you can stay on top of him. Otherwise try to sidestep alot and clear the wave fast. Care his waveclear is not bad at all! Remember that even if he has W, a short trade (EQWQ) will do a good chunk of damage.
Use W/E to dodge his attacks and play smart. Go Mobility Boots and you'll be fine.
Diana
Diana's also a pretty good example of a skill matchup. Any time she has her W down, go for it. If she's holding it, take bush and go in with E+Q, and most likely she'll use it, then run away. Besides that, it's all about not getting damaged with Q's and getting traded. As long as you dodge at least one Q, the trade is safe.
Go Mercury Treads or Mobility Boots.
Ekko
V.S. Ekko you usually win trades, obviously if you don't get hit by every single ability, which is hard to do since you should be using bush. Ignite might help for his ult, since Ekko has the ability
to just escape a fight without any harm. I suggest not wasting ult when he has R up unless you know you're gonna oneshot. (You can try and ult+ignite if his ult is nearby)
Use your W/E to dodge and go Mercury Treads.
Fizz
This is one of the hardest if not the hardest matchup for Qiyana. He usually out-damages you from early to late. Even tho in early game, you can still outtrade him if you do well enough.
Try to use bush as much as possible to slightly win trades. Get dirk and try to kill. Even if he outdamages you, it doesn't mean he's unkillable. Lvl 1 you can also go for a quick electrocute proc,
since he won't be able to do much damage.
You'll need to roam a lot to farm kills as you wont get any in lane so go Swifties or Mobility Boots.
Galio
Galios who run electrocute are usually a lot easier to kill, but even then, Galio overall shouldn't be a problem early game. Get dirk first back if you can, and try
to get an early lead if you can, or it'll be really hard to kill him later on. It's not really a favored matchup for you, but it's also not that bad.
Use W/E to dodge his attacks and go Plated Steelcaps or Mobility Boots for Roam.
Heimerdinger
Don't use Q's on his turrets unless it's needed (when there is a lot). Since you have many jumps, dodging his stun or missiles shouldn't be a problem.
You only win trades if he doesn't have a lot of turrets down. He's also pretty easy to one shot so don't be scared.
I'd usually go Mercury Treads unless I'm destroying my matchup.
Kassadin
Kassadin is a mage counter, but you are Qiyana an AD-Assasin, zone him from cs and engage him instantly if he steps up too close, abuse his weakness and his low
base armor, you don't shove the wave automatically, instead freeze the wave on your turret and deny him as much as possible, make sure to pressure other lanes
once you get your level 6 and your lead as he will outscale you.
Boots are your choice.
Katarina
Qiyana should totally win this matchup if played correctly, but it surely is a skill matchup. You can even trade her at lvl 1, as long as you dodge the dagger.
Every time she tries to Q you, just E in, even if she doesn't, go bush Q and go in. Tho, don't act too cocky since she still deals a good amount of damage, but just have in mind that you can kill her any time.
Use W/E to dodge her attacks. Go Mobility Boots for roaming.
LeBlanc
Leblanc is also a skill matchup. Before lvl 3, there's nothing much you can do and it might be worth losing some minions to not get traded. Once you reach lvl 3 or above, you really need to
dodge her chain, you have 2 jumps that you can use to your advantage, you also have bush. Besides that, LeBlanc is a really squishy target that can be killed any time. So once you get a trade in, you might wanna try and kill her in the second one.
Mercury Treads are a good option, same with Plated Steelcaps.
Lissandra
Lissandra is one of those matchups where you will probably end up even or losing. If the Lissandra plays right, the possibilities of you winning it completely are really low.
Even then, you need to play around CD's, quick trades are your option to burst her down, but she can still follow up with E, so try and poke her out with Q, but don't waste a lot of mana.
Again, don't try and hard win this matchup but rather try to not completely lose it. Look for your jungler's help / Roam.
(Reminder that if Lissandra is running Electrocute, even if she does more damage with it, it also means she's easier to kill too.)
I'd Recommend Mercury Treads for this.
Lucian
Known as a really tilting/hard matchup if the Lucian plays correctly. In this matchup you shall have a good use of bush Q and not get extremely poked out early. It's OK if you lose a couple of minions in early game. Do short trades and you should be able to kill him with ult. Remember that Lucian is still a squishy target. They might run exhaust, so try and get a lead by asking your jungler for help and you should be able to be good to go.
Plated Steelcaps are a must for this matchup.
Lux
The only problem you might have is the inability to get to her without using all your combo. The best I can tell you to do is to avoid roots and poke. Get dirk and go for it. Besides that, this matchup is pretty average.
Boots are your choice.
Malphite
Malphite is not a big threat before lvl 6, so just shove him in and look to roam on side lanes, respect his level 6 all-in especially when he buys AP, you won't be able to kill him in lane because Malphite is a AD-counter with his passive, his high base-armor and his W giving him additional armor stats. But if he builds AP that means he's going to be more vulnerable to damage, so don't be scared to try and go for a kill, especially pre 6.
Boots are your choice.
Malzahar
Malzahar is relatively easy to kill, but also can turn things and kill you. Matchup is pretty average, I recommend going in with Q Bush, which will get his shield out, then just W+Q and
most likely just run away and wait for the next trade. QSS is questionable since it just takes away a lot of gold, but if you're struggling to kill him that much, might as well go for it.
Boots are your choice.
Mordekaiser
Morde is melee counter-pick in general, he wins long trades and has good burst as well if he lands his combo, look to roam here and help team, if he ults you spam stealth to live.
(Most likely you won't encounter a Mordekaiser Mid)
Mercury Treads needed for this.
Neeko
Neeko is assassin counter in general (lockdown and anti assassin R) can be quickly bursted if you do get the jump on her, play with team to create lead as she's hard to pressure. In general it's just really hard to kill her, since you have no way out when you E in, I would suggest throwing some Q's at her and go for a kill. Try to ask your jungler for help to get a lead, that will make the matchup much easier. If she's not ahead and you are, the possibilities to win are higher.
Mercury Treads are recommended.
Orianna
Orianna is only even because she is in general a safe and easy laner so a lot of the pressure you have in lane is negated because of that, can shove and roam easy. Although good Oriannas might be more of a pain.
Pantheon
Pantheon is an assassin counter (E block, W stun), also if you try to roam he can match with his R, one of the hardest matchups for midlane.
Best you can do is wait for help and do some trades. Still killable. Usually my Permaban.
Rumble
Rumble is an assassin soft counter, big shield and easy to build defense items (no need for mana item like other mages), he will shove you in early and is more impactful in early fights.
Will be hard to kill him in lane but not impossible. Don't go in if he has his flamethrower.
Ryze
Ryze is only hard when the enemy knows what he's doing. Matchup goes down to whoever bursts down the other first. Ryze of course has tools like Phase Rush (if he's running it) or his root. Try to do a small trade where you win, then ult him. Don't get poked out before it. Reminder that Ryze is also a scaling god, so don't be too cocky later on.
Swain
Swain will poke and auto attack you for free, get your level 3, dodge his E and free kill him. this matchup gets medium if he reaches lvl 6 or gets kills so try to pressure the map. In teamfights he can match your teamfight potential with his ult and cc and tank like nature, so take care. I recommend Mercury Treads or Mobility Boots for roaming
Sylas
"Pretty awful matchup overall. In almost no situation you will see yourself killing Sylas (if he plays correctly). But he deals quite some damage. Don't do really long trades or else you'll probably end up losing, especially because of his W.
I recommend Mercury Treads or Mobility Boots for roaming
Syndra
Syndra is just usually a problem because she can just avoid getting traded and do a lot of damage in return. Hold bush, use it, E on her, proc elec asap, and get out. She's still squishy so don't be scared to ult. Reminder that you don't really need to trade all the time. Just be sure you have the right timings for when you do. I recommend Mercury Treads or Mobility Boots for roaming
Talon
Lvl 1 don't be scared to proc electrocute if he gets too cocky (Q+AA+AA) Tho don't also get cocky yourself. Obviously don't trade until lvl 3 and try and not get close lvl 2. Every time he W's
, E in. The second part of his W won't hit you so he won't be able to proc his passive for some time. Keep a bush Q for any time he ults and go near a wall then ult if he jumps on you, after a combo he should be dead if he gets hit by the ult.
I recommend Mercury Treads or Mobility Boots for roaming but you can usually just use your W/E to dodge.
Tristana
Trist has really strong lvl 2 all in start w (she will naturally push wave) grab bush so you can instant stealth q at 2, lane bully that is also really hard to get on top of (w+r), look to roam. A Tiamat into a Ravenous Hydra is usually quite a good idea.
Twisted Fate
If he goes AD this matchup is probably medium as it is more lane pressure but its still pretty easy, his early game is nothing too special in a 1v1 only issue is his gank setup.
You can maybe do longer trades since it's not like he has an insane damage output in a couple of seconds.
Veigar
This matchup itself is not what I would consider hard since it's not like he punishes you for simply existing, but rather is really hard to get to him and not get insanely damaged back. The only thing stopping you from killing him is his cage (and probably he's also running barrier/exhaust). Besides that, he's really squishy, tho might wanna get kills in other lanes to make it easier.
Vel'Koz
Velkoz is not particularly hard, just annoying, he can perma push in the wave but is very easy to kill if you do get on top of him, save w to dodge his knock up when you all in.
He will probably be running barrier so chances to kill him are lower. If he plays really passive, search for good roams.
Viktor
Matchup could be hard as well it really depends on how good the viktor is, go aggressive before he gets his first upgrade. Viktor has a bad time if forced to recall early, careful of q/e poke.
Don't be scared to go on him, he'll most likely place his W right at his feet, so it'll be easy to avoid and you will get a trade off.
Vladimir
Try to not get poked out early game (lvl 1-2), trades are usually safe pre-6, unless he has empowered Q, or uses electrocute. I'd recommend searching kills outside mid because decent vladimirs usually
stay safe. (They also build Zhonyas) (Use bush) Reminder that if the enemy vladimir is running phase rush, the chances to kill him are even lower considering he's just gonna proc it and run away.
Xerath
Save W to dodge poke in lane, this will force him to walk up and auto when he is oom and then you jump on him, really average matchup but also can be annoying if they play safe, since they will probably also be running barrier. V.S. those Xeraths who play really passive, you won't really find a spot to kill him.
Yasuo
This matchup is whoever thinks ahead of the other one. He's probably gonna abuse his lvl 2 and outpush you. Tradings are safe (with bush) but I recommend getting his passive out before
doing so. Remember Yasuo is still really squishy. Perfect example of a skill matchup.
Zed
This is skill matchup, as long as you don't get long ranged comboed a lot you're fine. Trades are fine vs Zed, especially with bush, since he'll probably use W to get away.
If he ults you, always stay near a wall, then do the full combo, that will most likely kill.
Ziggs
Ziggs has great zoning tools with E and W so try to bait them out then all in, he is pretty easy to kill if you manage to get on him and also is a terrible roamer so swifties early can be good. Don't be scared to flash on him when you have lethality items. It will probably kill + Ignite.
Zoe
As long as you don't get hit by E, you will win the trades, you can either try and risk getting hit by it, by using E with Bush and trying to dodge, or just waiting for the moment she decides to use it. If she plays safe roam. Reminder that she is also Zoe, so she can sometimes
just run you down with spells and kill you.
Yone
This is also p much a skill matchup. Try to confuse him when he E's by using bush q, reminder that he is still the same champ when he E's, so don't be scared to just
combo him while he's in it. Also pretty squishy, he will also outscale you since he's an hypercarry, but still an easy one shot.
Viego
You have to be really careful lvl 1 & 2, since he might all in. Long trades are not good for you, simply because he'll be running Conqueror. Trying to poke him out with Q's will be bad, since he just sustains them out. Trading near your tower at lvl 3 and all in 4+. Use mana for wave control.
Renekton
This matchup is like Irelia, but worse. Since you won't be able to kill Renekton in early as you can do with Irelia. To be fair you won't be able to stomp this. Maybe go even, and if you're lucky enough, get a kill or two. Try to be useful for your team instead of focusing that much on your lane.
Hello! My name is Kessi. I've been playing Qiyana for a while now and enjoy have been a Yuumi main for a longer time. I play league in my off time and when I'm not playing I am make music! This guide is primarily for people who want to learn the best champ in the Jungle and the Mid lane and so they can carry with her. Qiyana is a very complex champion to understand but takes little time to get comfortable with after you find out what you're actually doing and when you do, she is one of the most powerful champions in the game.
Abilities
Edge of Ixtal is Qiyana's Q ability. Qiyana slashes forward in the target direction, dealing physical damage to enemies in a line, reduced to 75% damage against targets beyond the first.
Upon gathering an element with , Edge of Ixtal is upgraded to Elemental Wrath and its Cooldown reduction icon.png cooldown is reset.
