All kidding aside, Ezreal is totally viable in all three roles.
AD is my favorite, for four main reasons:

• Amazing early-game dominance and farm
• Life steal ( Bloodthirster)
• Free auto-attack damage
• 1.0 AD scaling on Mystic Shot and Trueshot Barrage

• Rising Spell Force: Quite a potent Passive.
  Throw out Mystic Shots and farm to daylight!
  Essence Flux and/or Trueshot Barrage can charge this instantly.
  
  
• Mystic Shot (Q): AD Ezreal is BOSS because of Mystic Shot.
  It's the best of Overload and Parrrley rolled up into one!
  Sheen makes it terrifying.
  
  
• Essence Flux (W): In an AP build, Essence Flux is a massive, piercing nuke.
  In an AD build, it's got powerful and under-appreciated utility!
  The speed buff and debuff is quite potent for 1v1s, teamfights, and taking turrets.
  An excellent finisher in a crowd, as well!
  
  
• Arcane Shift (E): FREE Flash!
  Don't initiate with Arcane Shift, because you're nearly un-catchable when it's combined with Flash and/or Ghost.
  Finish off runners and leap walls to impersonate Spiderman.
  
  
• Trueshot Barrage (R): Trueshot Barrage is essentially a skill-dependent Requiem; Karthus pushes a button whilst Ezreal takes aim and fires away.
  There's so much satisfaction is lining up the perfect shot and collecting your hard-earned cash.

Flash: Add Arcane Shift to insta-warp 875 units away! Far too good to pass up.

Exhaust: Fight-winner?! Excellent for making those clutch escapes as well.

In place of Exhaust, you can snag Ignite, Ghost, Teleport, claivoyance, or Cleanse!

With tanks, you have to optimize your build to defend against the particular opponents you face.
However, Ezreal just needs optimal damage and utility!

I use this build in EVERY GAME and it's never let me down:

• : Doran strikes again! His 3-in-1 items are worth their weight in Gold.
  Snag another Doran's Blade after Sheen~ you even get Life steal from Mystic Shot :3
  
  
• : The Passive activates when you cast Mystic Shot, and the bonus damage is dealt when on-hit effects are applied! Nothing else adds damage so brilliantly.
  
  
• : AD Ezreal can auto-attack for excellent damage, so don't sell yourself short with Ionian Boots of Lucidity; you're no caster!
  
  
• : Because of Arcane Shift, a well-played Ezreal rarely dies.
  That's where Bloodthirster comes into play!
  SO MANY STACKS :DDD
  
  
• : You have to try it to see just how good Trinity Force is on Ez.
  Sheen just got 3/2 better, and Phage and Zeal came along for the ride!
  
  
• OR : I prefer Last Whisper because Ezreal has a WRIST-BOW.
  (and 40% Armor Pen works all game!)

• + etc.: Now you can express your creativity!
  Replace the two Doran's Blades with defensive items of your choice.

Early-Game

Pick up Doran's Blade, dance your Haruhi dance, yell "glhf!!", and stroll out to Bot or Mid-lane!

After playing a few games, you'll get a feel for the rate at which you can sustainably fire Mystic Shots, and the balance between harassment and farm that works best for you.
With an aggressive mindset, Ezreal has one of the most potent early-games in League!

Mid-Game

If you've been farming well and/or fillin' coffins, you've got Bloodthirster and are making people reeeaaaally sad :D In teamfights, use your ultimate on groups of enemies to even the odds and fully charge Rising Spell Force.

ALWAYS AUTO-ATTACK!

Late-Game

The acquisition of Trinity Force signals doom for your foes.
Team-play is essential! As the game wanes; stay with your mates and you should prevail :)

I've never played a champion as completely satisfying as Ezreal!
Every success is absolutely earned; the term "overpowered" never even enters the discussion.
