Introduction
This build for

If you're using this guide to build him as a mid carry and go AD over tankyness, however, your build will be significantly different, focusing on magic resistance, damage, and sustain. Don't bump Midnekton until you've tried it!

Pros:
- Very tanky for his damage late-game
- Good harass in the laning phase
- He's a crocodile
- Has 2 spells that can be considered "utility" abilities
- Badass ultimate
- Slice and Dice is an incredible escape tool
- No ability cost
Cons:
- His stun stuns him too
- Squishy early-game
- Multiple ways to build (Which way is the right way?!)
- Melee

The runes in this build are simply to exaggerate the "tanky but not tank" aspect of the build. The health from the quintessences help
Atma's Impaler for more damage while giving him a huge edge early game, the attack damage obviously for more damage, and and magic resist + armor give him the durability edge.
The runes on the AD Midnekton build focus on dealing damage as well as a bit of tankiness because
Renekton is a bruiser, of course. I've swapped the health quints for attack damage to give him an even stronger early edge against mages. At level three, with a 100 fury bonus, you'll burts and mage to half health with your combo or E,E,W,Q. They'll be too terrified to retaliate. Save your E for escape, however, if you're up against a mage with strong CC or sustain such as
Swain
Vladimir or
Twisted Fate who can deal damage to you as you're backing off.

The runes on the AD Midnekton build focus on dealing damage as well as a bit of tankiness because

The masteries in this build give
Renekton durability along with a bit of bonus AD and more armor penetration to compliment. Remember, this build is going to let you ignore a huge chunk of an enemies armor with a full build plus another 15 from marks. Thats pretty close to true damage! If your going for more AD than tank, the 21/9/0 build is for you, paying more attention to damage and less to defence.

The items in this build are a bit of what some pro's might recommend for

Let's start from the start. I begin the game with boots and 3 health pots. Both help if you're fighting a harass-heavy champion like

Brutalizer is a good item for

Now we can finish the maw and buy a

So, you're probably wondering something. I think I know what it is. "Solo-mid

Lets begin with the simple boots and pots. From here we want to emphasize sustain and damage because

There aren't many more items we can get here, so let's let get that late-game survivability item,

Like many other champions,
Renekton has many summoner spells that suite him and his role as the solo-top. At the top of this page I have
Teleport and
Exhaust, a combo I feel suites him well because you can quickly defend a lane that's being pushed, get to a team fight and move around the map quickly. Here's a list of summoner spells, along with how they work with
Renekton.
Flash: A popular summoner spell amongst all champions and possible the best one in the game. However, it's not one I often grab on someone like
Renekton who has
Slice and Dice. A good summoner spell for
Renekton and for all, but IMO, not the best for
Renekton.
Exhaust: Another widely used summoner spell, especially by AD carries and damage dealers. One of my favourite summoner spells, it lets you chase down enemies or surprise them by using it in a 1-on-1 situation to give you the upper hand. As a solo-top I see little choice other than to use it as one of your spells.
Ghost:
Renekton is a very good chaser, and as soon as you start winning your lane people aren't going to be very keen on the idea of fighting you. So, what do you do? Chase that bastard down and kill em! Not only does it help close the distance between you and your enemy but is also a great escape tool. Completely viable and useful on
Renekton.
Teleport: This is one of my favourite tools on
Renekton or any other solo-top because it makes you more mobile. I like to have at least one person on the team with it because it can quickly get you to a turret which needs defending, a team-fight or any other place you need to be (Ex.
Teleport to a ward near Baron to help your team get it). It's also difficult to interrupt and has a cast-time shorter than recall. Teleport is possibly one of the best summoner spells in the game because it's a huge counter-gank. Always roll with one teleport on your team for improved map-control.
Ignite: This is a very commonly used summoner spell used for extra damage or securing kills. A good choice and a viable option for
Renekton who has no form of dots or ranged attacks. A considerable replacement for
Teleport for ganks that hurt more.
Heal: A useful summoner spell for anyone, but unnecessary for
Renekton because his ultimate is pretty much a free summoner heal. Again, you could use it to heal everyone and play support
Renekton, or you can ulti run into the enemy team and slice everyone to bits.
Cleanse: Cleanse is a decent summoner spell which can be used to counter opponents with hard CC or to remove
Ignite along with all other debuffs placed on you. Try not to get it unless you absolutely need it.
And don't take
Clarity
Promote
Revive or
Clairvoyance.

As an off-tank, you're the initiator if your team doesn't have a proper tank. An appropriate way to do this is as soon as you see a squishy get a few feet away from the rest of his/her team, slice into range, use your burst combo (e,w,q) and then activate your ultimate ability. Try to remember to use
Cull the Meek and
Slice and Dice in the middle of the fray, and stun threats to your AD carry.

In conclusion,
Renekton is a fairly simple champion if you're using the correct strategy. The difference between a good
Renekton and a bad one is massive, and there are a whole lot more bad
Renekton out there than good. He has good harass and like his brother
Nasus, a pretty strong late-game. Only play him as as a solo top or solo mid (building
Force of Nature if you're getting beat in lane which won't happen). I saw someone jungle as him once. Didn't go that great for him.
