Jungle - Basically Viego but better. Be'veth if allowed to gain a lead early will snowball the game just like Viego, especially post 6. She will likely 3 camp into invade and she will beat you. Theres a chance she priorities' herald the moment it spawns so watch out for that.
Cassiopeia
Mid lane - Not a huge problem, build Dshield watch out for the ground animation to use your abilities pre 6, I would recommend trying to bully her with q poke through the wave until you're able to full engage. post 6 gets a bit trickier but its still not that bad, attempt to bait out her R and you'll be fine unless she's fed.
Aatrox
Top - Pre 6 simple, don't get hit by sweet spots, walk out of W, the usual. Bully him early don't let him farm for free. Post 6 gets a little more difficult but still simple. Q poke while dodging his sweet spots and you'll be fine, just don't all in while he's near his turret and above 40%hp as he has a decent amount of outplay potential with Q flash combos.
Ahri
Mid - Q poke and don't get hit by charm, pre 6 can bully, post 6 gets a bit difficult to kill her but she still has little to no kill pressure on you so long as you don't troll.
Akali
Akshan
Amumu
Jg - Watch out for cc chain, dodging one q can win you the fight. He's a bit of a threat early game but so long as he can't get a lead anywhere he's dealable. He cant out scale you so he'll look to out gank you. Just counter-gank if 2v2 / 3v3 is good or trade resources.
Anivia
Annie
Azir
Brand
Camille
Top - A case of you will likely never kill her but she'll never kill you pre 6. You have a slight advantage if you're able to weave q's effectively without tanking her true damage. Post 6 avoid anywhere that isn't your turret as she will just jump on you with R and out duel you.
Darius
Diana
Jungle - Not much of a problem, you're slightly stronger than her early, especially after a Noonquiver buy. Watch out for post 6 teamfights, if she manages to get an R off on you it is usually the difference between winning and losing a fight.
Dr. Mundo
Gwen
Hecarim
Jungle - might invade early so care. All in all it's a decently even matchup, treat it like you're evenly matched at the early stages of the game, but if you get a lead then dog walk him.
Illaoi
Top - don't get hit by E and you win.
Irelia
Top/Mid - Can't fight her when there's low minions, have to bully her early with q poke and aa procs while minions aren't in a dangerous position. Unless for some reason she's incredibly low, use your W exclusively for defensive reasons such as dodging her E or escaping after she engages. She can and will turret dive you the moment she gets the chance, even with the slightest lead while your on 70% hp, a good way to win these turret dive fights is to be continuously moving around and forcing her to stick to you with q. For instance, if she E-Q-R or R-Q-E you under tower, W-AA her the moment you get out of stun, run to make distance and let the turret do the work, once she uses her Q again while you have no passive, R or flash as far away from her as possible while staying under tower, if she continues to chase you, W-Q-AA her when you're confident it'll kill her. If it's early game and you managed to execute it properly Irelia is either dead or retreating on 1hp, if it's later in the game you might need to alter a few steps to get the job done. For instance, if you have flash then use R on her instead and use flash to escape, so long as you dont hit her W this will likely result in a kill or her retreating so long as she isn't incredibly ahead.
Ivern
Jungle - Don't know too much since he never gets picked. The shields alone make it a bit difficult to play against later in the game.
Jarvan IV
Jungle - Not the worst but certainly not the greatest matchup. He makes teamfighting pretty rough and if he gets the drop on you will probably win the 1v1. If you get any lead on him best to try and bully him out of the game rather than look for team fights early/mid.
Jax
DO NOT USE ULT WHEN HE'S IN COUNTERSTRIKE, YOUR ULT IS CLASSIFIED AS AN AUTO ATTACK.
Jayce
Top/Mid - Can and will one shot you. He will also poke you out so there's that to deal with.
K'Sante
Top/Mid - In lane not a problem, late game he'll just soak up all your damage.
Karthus
Jungle - He will out clear you so be mindful of that. You have two choices: invade or out gank. If you see an opportunity to invade early then do so and try to put him as behind as possible since you have the upper hand. Otherwise try to out gank him and get as many objectives as possible.
Kassadin
Mid - Abuse the fact he's weak early, look for plays around the map if he's sitting under turret. If you don't have many late game scalers it's best to rush the game ASAP - don't let him get to lvl 16.
Katarina
Kayle
Kayn
Jungle - Ward raptors early, if you see him start raptors then recall on your last camp and rush to his raptors for a steal, he'll likely be taking first scuttle which is worth literal pennies.
Red Form - Front to back, try dodge his W else becomes coinflip on the 1v1.
Blue Form - Peel squishy carries, he'll try E through wall onto them so beware of that. Try focus on the moment he comes out of R or stunning him before he can get onto your carry. If he hits W on you then you'll probably die.
Kennen
Top - Most underrated champion in the game.
Bro is Malz but what if malz ulted your whole team. In lane not a huge problem but still a force to be reckoned with.
Kha'Zix
Jungle - Will likely out gank you because your team sucks, can 1v1 you early and mid easily so be careful for invades. Care mid/late game for him waiting out of vision to one shot you. Focus on teamfights rather than skirmishes
Kindred
Jungle - Beats you early, mid and late.
R directly counters you
If able to attain a lead she will snowball and win game. If you can find a chance to invade her pre 6 then do so (with teammates preferably), assuming you aren't already behind.
Kled
Top - Viego is theoretically what every kled should dream of: a squishy melee champion thats weak early. Funnily enough, he's deceptively strong in lane and can hold his own. Bully level 1/2, care for level 3 and watch out for skaarl. Try to avoid his turret dive's by bursting skaarl down while he's walking up.
LeBlanc
Mid - She just kinda dodges everything huh.
Lee Sin
Jungle - He out duels and out ganks you. Post Noonquiver you have a decent shot at winning skirmishes but still care for his 6 as it's a game changer. If you get ahead you should be able to walk all over him.
Lillia
Jungle - Lmao what's she gonna do? you win skirmishes and duels early and can out gank her. She does scale into relevance mid game so take note of that, but if you have a lead she isn't a problem.
Lissandra
Have fun playing the game.
Lux
Malzahar
Have fun playing the game.
Maokai
Jungle - Doesn't do anything to you early, you'll out gank, out duel, out farm and out skirmish him. Mid game relatively the same but he's slightly more dangerous, late game however he'll eat your damage while dishing out stupid amounts of it. BORK or BC would be good buy into him.
As a champion though this is so can cer in every wat
Master Yi
Jungle - Beats you early, mid and late.
Out gank him and don't allow him to get a free lead. If you have a laner with heavy cc then try and use them to invade and shut him down early.
Mordekaiser
Top - Pre 6 not a huge deal, post 6 you can't do much unless you outplay in R.
Naafiri
Dogs block your W which makes 1v1 nigh unwinnable. Try to ignore her in fights and focus on someone else, if she one shots someone that isn't you that's great it means you have a few more seconds to get a champion that can use abilities against her.
Nasus
Neeko
Nocturne
Jungle - Will out duel you early but if you gain almost any lead he loses all credibility. Abuse skirmishes since he can't do much in those.
Nunu & Willump
Jungle - Not a problem at any stage of the game, can't think of a time I needed to think to beat him, typically they just perma gank while you farm and scale, and if you decide to fight him he can't do anything anyway since you out duel him.
Olaf
Orianna
Ornn
Pantheon
Poppy
Jungle - Ok, And? you win skirmishes and out duel her.
Mid/Top - Ok, And? Care for her burst I guess?
Qiyana
Quinn
Rammus
Rek'Sai
Jungle - Outduels and out skirmishes you early/mid unless you have a lead. Try to focus on getting your win con ahead, or just further your own lead by farming kills. Watch out for early invades.
Renekton
Pre 6 dealable Post 6 doomed.
Rengar
Jungle - Care for invades. His high burst early makes him impossible to duel as Viego if there are bushes around. Try to out gank him or out farm him, even if you get a lead on him he's still formidable so don't go for over zealous plays.
Riven
Rumble
Ryze
Sejuani
Jungle - Does care lmao. You out farm, out duel and out skirmish her.
Sett
Shaco
Jungle - Ward raptors early, if you see him start raptors then insta recall on your last camp and rush to his raptors for a steal, he'll likely be taking first scuttle which is worth literal pennies. Something to be aware of is that your passive marks the real him if you hit him pre R, which makes it incredibly easy to decipher which is the real Shaco.
Shen
DO NOT USE R WHEN SHEN W HE WILL JUST BLOCK IT
Shyvana
Jungle - You outperform her in every way unless she has a lead. watch out for early drag takes and try to deny her as many as possible.
Singed
Say goodbye to your kill pressure.
Sion
Skarner
SKAR SKAR.
Sylas
Mid - Try not to get hit by his pull and he loses all kill pressure. Any lead given to him however and he will just snowball.
Syndra
Ekko
Jungle - All my homies HATE EKKO. honestly pretty easy but he's gotten more difficult to deal with as time goes on. Pre Noonquiver slightly Ekko favored, Post Noonquiver he's a non champion unless he has a lead (which he probably got from your mind boggling team).
Elise
Jungle - Care for invade early, dodge her cocoon and she'll lose the duel. You're stronger in a skirmish unless she gets a free kill by hitting a cocoon.
Evelynn
Jungle - Ok, And? Don't let her get a lead and you'll be fine, you are stronger both early and late game, you can out gank her and are stronger in skirmishes. Even if she gets a lead it's not a huge problem you can bring it back by picking off an easy kill in a team fight or skirmish.
Fiddlesticks
Jungle - Fiddlesticks players don't deserve certain things in life.
Fizz
8s of almost continuous immunity is fair but Aatrox can't have a revive btw.
Galio
Gangplank
Can't say much for lane, but in general watch out for his barrels late game as getting hit by even one of them can lose you a game.
Garen
Gnar
Gragas
Jungle - Just win lol.
Top - Just win lol.
Graves
TBH he might only be "Major" difficulty because I hate graves but still. You can out duel him postpost Noonquiver and if you're even you get free reign over his jungle.
Taliyah
Jungle - Basic ahh jungle matchup, watch out for her mine field knock up and you'll be fine, hell it might pay to R her knockup just to avoid all the burst damage.
Talon
Jungle - If he gets a lead watch out for him perma invading your jungle and waiting in random bushes to one shot you. Even if you have a lead, if he's even remotely close to you in items he'll one shot you before you can react.
Teemo
Tristana
Just perma kites you so 1v1 is impossible mid game if you're not super ahead, and even then good luck getting onto her to deal damage.
Trundle
Tryndamere
Pre-6 don't care, the moment he gets 6 he full counters you. Even if he's relatively weak he's one less reset you can get for 5s AND might be harassing you that entire time.
Twisted Fate
Udyr
2 Years since rework and he still has yet to go below 53% w/r btw. Can't fight him early so look to scale or focus on getting win con ahead.
Urgot
Veigar
Vel'Koz
Vex
Vi
Out duels you pre Noonquiver, she can't do anything if you get a lead or a reset though. Watch out for a cc chain from Q-R and you'll be fine.
Viktor
Vladimir
Volibear
Warwick
Top/Mid - Weave q's but don't commit to anything as he'll heal it all back with barrier.
Jungle - Don't duel early, focus on scaling/getting win con ahead and you'll be fine.
Wukong
Xerath
Xin Zhao
Jungle - Might invade so care.
Yasuo
Yone
Yorick
Zac
Zed
Zoe
Caitlyn
TLDR: Don't pick Viego otherwise you're getting a Caitlyn trap under your possession.
Nice possession, Its a shame there's a Caitlyn trap under it and you got one shot. Wait she has any lead whatsoever? good luck getting anywhere near her before you just die.
I am GreekosSparkos "Middest One-trick OAT" "Coinflip Demon of OCE" "Most Elo-boosted Player in OCE" "6 Kit Abuser" "Three Winning Lane Merchant". I am currently Masters Peak (dropped in 3 days but i'm claiming it) and also historically 6 years hardstuck in two different ranks (3 years silver, 3 years platinum) I'd like to think I know a decent amount about Viego and can reliably create a guide on his current builds and interactions. I plan on streaming in the near future at https://www.twitch.tv/greekossparkos if for whatever reason anyone would like to pop in. I don't plan on stopping playing League until I reach Challenger so will have updated guides for the forseeable future.
Whats Covered?
Ahead of this, I'm exclusivly talking about special interractions, both positive (Everyone but Aphelios/Caitlyn) and negative (Aphelios/Caitlyn) regarding Viego's passive between other champions that I know of, have experienced in game, and find to be significant (I may leave out some interactions for now, eventually I may write them all but currently I am too lazy). Sadly I don't tend to record my games so many of them you'll just have to trust me on them if you're skeptical. Eventually I will fill each interaction with a small clip of how they work. (AS OF THIS UPDATE I HAVE NOT LISTED ALL VIEGO INTERACTIONS I KNOW ABOUT AND INTEND TO DO SO EVENTUALLY)
For the TLDR of who/what has an interaction/bug:
- Any ability Riot may have coded as a buff or debuff (I'm not a coder so idk but this is what i'm guessing is why these work) will carry over to base viego; i.e Jax/Nilah become immune to auto attacks, Udyr double cast, Kayn E.
- Abilities that may "create" something on the map (again, i'm not a coder IDK). i.e Ekko W, Morg W are the obvious ones since you can clearly see theres an area being effected, less obvious are Panth/Braum Shield or Gwen W, which I suspect create some form of entity on the map that can block damage. The exception to this from memory would be Shen W, which Requires the presence of his passive in order to be active (when Shen dies or Viego goes back to base, his sword dissapears so his W will deactivate)
Later I also intend to write a list of bugs I am aware of and have experienced in game.
INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT INTERACTION: VARUS W CAN REDUCE THE COOLDOWN OF BASE VIEGO W IF YOU ACTIVATE IT, GO BACK TO BASE AND THEN USE SHADOW MAW (W) WHILE THE VARUS W EFFECT IS STILL ACTIVE, THIS WILL SHAVE APPROXMIATELY 3s OFF YOUR W COOLDOWN
Possession Interactions (Bugs)
Alistar Trample (E) Trample will carry over to base Viego, providing you the option of ulting immediatly after casting Trample (the stun will still work on base Viego).
Aphelios Phase (W) Phase for unkown reasons will sometimes refuse to activate, meaning you will be unable to swap to your secondary weapon making Aphelios a pretty annoying (but not terrible) possession if you get stuck with the wrong weapon for the wrong situation. I previously thought it might be linked to Aphelios players not leveling attack speed (linked to crtl-W) but that was debunked when I COULD activate Phase earlier in a game and then later on I could not.
Braum Concussive Blows (Passive) Concussive Blows will continue to activate in base Viego SO LONG as you hit one auto attack on the enemy champion (this auto attack also works on your Heartbreaker auto attack.
Braum Unbreakable (E) Unbreakable will carry over to base Viego, providing you the option of ulting immediatly after casting Unbreakable. Ulting out after casting is typically optimal as you can also continue to attack and use other abilities while Unbreakable is active.
Ekko Timewinder (W) Timewinder will carry over to base Viego, allowing an R into the stun/shield.
Gangplank Powder Keg (E) Powder Keg will carry over to base Viego, allowing you to activate it out of possession. Although I'm not sure if you'd want to considering most of it's power comes from crit, which you won't have.
Gwen Hallowed Mist (W) Hallowed Mist will carry over to base Viego, it will even travel with you when you move out of range.
Pantheon Aegis Assault (E) Aegis Assault stays after exiting possession and can Heartbreaker during it. However last time I checked you can't auto attack while in base form during the cast time.
