Intro
Hello everyone and welcome to the Soraka mains Discord Community Soraka guide. We soraka mains worked hard to compile this complete, all you need to know about soraka guide. Most of us here have been playing Soraka or League of Legends for many years and we have come together to provide you will this Soraka info splat buffet. I, the author of this guide, have tried to organize a lot of pinned discord messages with a massive amount of information pertaining to Soraka tricks and tips, builds, runes, item interactions and much, MUCH more. This is the first ever guide that I have ever made but after becoming, essentially a tutor for new players that join our discord for help with Soraka, I decided to compile it all in one massive beginner friendly guide. So without further ado, Enjoy!
Abilities
So, I am not going to lie, this section is almost literally going to be a copy paste from the LoL Wiki with a few extra bits here and there there will be tips and tricks for these abilities in the Tips and tricks section.

PASSIVE: Salvation: INNATE: Soraka gains 70% bonus movement speed when moving towards allied champions below 40% of their maximum health. This has a 2500 range.
  • Soraka will be able to recognize champions under the health threshold for the sake of both Salvation and Wish.
  • The movement speed of Salvation only applies when Soraka is facing in the direction of her low-health ally, even if her line of sight is obstructed by terrain. Merely pathing towards their location will not necessarily grant her the buff.
  • A line of arrows points to allied targets, similar to that displayed by Thresh's Dark Passage or Yasuo's Last Breath , indicating the direction in which she can gain the bonus movement speed.

Q Starcall:
TARGET RANGE: 800
EFFECT RADIUS: 235
CAST TIME: 0.25
COST: 45 / 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 MANA
COOLDOWN: 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 / 4

MAGIC DAMAGE:
85 / 120 / 155 / 190 / 225 (+ 35% AP)

TOTAL SELF-HEAL:
50 / 65 / 80 / 95 / 110 (+ 30% AP)

BONUS MOVEMENT SPEED:
20 / 22.5 / 25 / 27.5 / 30%

ACTIVE: Soraka calls down a star upon the target area, granting sight over it before landing after 0.25 − 1 (based on target range) seconds, dealing magic damage to enemies hit and slowing them by 30% for 1.5 seconds.

Hitting at least one enemy champion returns the star dust toward Soraka, granting her Rejuvenation for 2.5 seconds, healing her every 0.5 seconds and granting her bonus movement speed, decaying over the duration.

While Soraka is Rejuvenated she can Rejuvenate other allies with Astral Infusion, granting them the same effects for the same duration.
  • Starcall counts as hitting even if it gets blocked by a spell shield or Riposte , granting Rejuvenation.
  • Yasuo's Wind Wall and Braum's Unbreakable can block the Rejuvenation projectile.
  • Rejuvenation heals over 12 ticks, with the first 4 each healing for about 15% of the heal, the next 4 ticks for about 5.5% each, and the last 4 for about 4.5% each.
  • Rejuvenation won't be granted and Soraka won't be able to make use of the health cost reduction on Astral Infusion until the projectile gets to her, but she is able to Rejuvenate allies as soon as the target is hit.

W Astral Infusion:

TARGET RANGE: 550
CAST TIME: 0.25
COST: 10% MAXIMUM HEALTH + 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60 MANA
COOLDOWN: 6 / 5 / 4 / 3 / 2

HEAL:
100 / 135 / 170 / 205 / 240 (+ 70% AP)

HEALTH COST REDUCTION:
80 / 85 / 90 / 95 / 100%

ACTIVE: Soraka heals the target ally champion (excluding herself).

If cast while Rejuvenated, the health cost will be reduced by a percentage.

Astral Infusion cannot be cast if Soraka is below 5% of her maximum health.
  • Astral Infusion can also be targeted on allied decoys.
  • Astral Infusion can be cast even if Soraka doesn't have the sufficient amount of health to pay for the health cost while above 5% of her maximum health.
  • As with all abilities with health costs, Astral Infusion will not reduce Soraka's health below 1.
  • Spirit Visage will only increase the health donated to allies if the target ally possesses it, although owning it will boost the heal that Soraka receives from Starcall and Wish.

E Equinox:

TARGET RANGE: 925
EFFECT RADIUS: 250
CAST TIME: 0.25
COST: 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90 MANA
COOLDOWN: 20 / 19 / 18 / 17 / 16

MAGIC DAMAGE:
70 / 95 / 120 / 145 / 170 (+ 40% AP)
TOTAL MAGIC DAMAGE:
140 / 190 / 240 / 290 / 340 (+ 80% AP)

ROOT DURATION:
1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2

ACTIVE: Soraka creates a celestial zone at the target location, dealing magic damage to enemy champions that were inside it upon creation. The zone then persists for 1.5 seconds, silencing all enemy champions within.

After the duration, the zone detonates, dealing the same magic damage to all enemy champions within and briefly rooting them.
  • Equinox's silence is removed by cleanses but does not grant immunity to it; leaving the area and coming back inside applies the silence debuff regardless.

R Wish:

EFFECT RADIUS: GLOBAL
CAST TIME: 0.25
COST: 100 MANA
COOLDOWN: 160 / 145 / 130

HEAL:
150 / 250 / 350 (+ 55% AP)
ENHANCED HEAL:
225 / 375 / 525 (+ 82.5% AP)

ACTIVE: Soraka calls upon the stars, instantly healing all allied champions, and herself, which is increased by 50% on targets below 40% of their maximum health.
  • Untargetability does not invalidate the targeting of the heal.
  • Wish will not credit Soraka for assisting in a champion kill if the target ally is at full health (unless they get shielded by Aery or buffed by another item).
  • Wish will apply heal effects (such as Summon Aery) prioritizing targets based on the Spawn ID, which is the order in which units were added to an ongoing game. For champions, this is the order they appear in from left to right in the loading screen in blind pick.
  • Wish's effects occur before the cast time.
Pros and Cons of Soraka
Pros:
  • Strongest Healer in the game
  • Game changing Ultimate
  • Moderately high mobility
  • easy to land abilities
  • Strong kiting
  • 3 healing abilities

Cons
  • Very squishy
  • Often focused be enemy team
  • 1 ability to damage minions
  • 2 offensive abilities
What Mythic do I select?
Lets start this Chapter off with all the information I typed in the items and build's notes section, before I realized that the notes were not THIS section...

Typically you build your mythic based on either your team's composition or the enemy team's composition. Soraka almost always picks her mythic based on the enemy team comp. Usually, you will only be picking between Moonstone and Locket as they are more geared towards her kit and compliment her the most but Imperial mandate is always nice for a little extra dmg for your teammates.

Basically when you get into loading screen you will look at the enemy team and ask yourself, "how many burst champs do they have, and how many non-burst champs does the enemy have?"

What is burst? Burst in League is essentially how much damage can any one champion output at one instant. For example a Zed Ultimate is a prime image of burst. It is just one massive chunk of damage after a small delay.

Back to the guide, you count the number of burst and non burst champs on the enemy team, then based on that number you select Moonstone or Locket. If the enemy team has more burst, pick locket. If they have more non-burst, pick Moonstone.

If you do not know what champions are bursty, we compiled a list of every champion in the game and what category they would be put in. Here it is:

Moonstone: Aatrox, Alistar, Ashe, Brand, Darius, Dr. Mundo, Draven, Ezreal, Fiddlesticks, Garen, Gnar, Gangplank, Irelia, Jax, Jhin, Jinx, Karma, Kayle, Kayn (Darkin), Kled, Leona, Lillia, Malzahar, Maokai, Master Yi, Mordekaiser, Morgana, Nasus, Nautilus, Quinn, Rammus, Rell, Rumble, Senna, Sett, Shaco, Singed, Sion, Sona, Sylas, Tahm Kench, Taric, Teemo, Trundle, Tryndamere, Twisted Fate, Twitch, Udyr, Urgot, Vladimir, Volibear, Warwick, Wukong, Yorick, Yuumi, Zyra

Mandate (or either): Anivia, Aphelios, Aurelian Sol, Azir, Braum, Corki, Galio, Heimerdinger, Ivern, Janna, Kai'Sa, Kennen, Kindred, Kog'Maw, Lulu, Nami, Nunu & Willump, Ornn, Poppy, Rakan, Riven, Sejuani, Shen, Skarner, Soraka, Thresh, Vayne, Xin Zhao, Zac, Zilean

Locket: Ahri, Akali, Amumu, Annie, Bard, Blitzcrank, Caitlyn, Cammille, Cassiopeia, Chogath, Dianna, Ekko, Elise, Evelynn, Fiora, Fizz, Gragas, Graves, Hecarim, Illaoi, Jarvan IV, Jayce, Kalista, Karthus, Kassadin, Katarina, Kayn (Shadow assassin), Kha'Zix, LeBlanc, Lee Sin, Lissandra, Lucian, Lux, Malphite, Miss Fortune,Neeko, Nidalee, Nocturne, Olaf, Orianna, Pantheon, Pyke, Qiyana, Rek'Sai, Renekton, Rengar, Ryze, Samira, Seraphine, Shyvana, Sivir, Swain, Syndra, Taliyah, Talon, Tristana, Varus, Veigar, Vel'Koz, Vi, Xayah, Xerath, Yasuo, Yone, Zed, Ziggs, Zoe

You can Also go Shurelya's Battlesong if your team is against alot of champs who can kite alot or move quickly in general this item will give you and your team a hefty boost and help them catch up or out speed/kite your opponent giving you an edge.
What Boots and When?
This section is easy! We think that Soraka should usually choose between these three choices

Ionian Boots of Lucidity are your main bread and butter boots and you usually will build these over your other boot options

Plated Steelcaps are for those infamous all AD team comps or mostly AD comps that are all the rage right now as of making this guide or for when you really need that extra armor.

Merc Treads are for those enemy comps with a lot of heavy CC like stuns and roots. They are also really useful against all AP comps.
The Rest of The Build
So, Every single item can be built in any order based on what your team comp is, and the enemy team comp. This build prioritizes items with active abilities over passives because usually actives are stronger and more impactful than passives when used properly, especially when paired with ingenious hunter to lower their cooldown. So here is the situation where you would build each items;

Redemption: Enemy team has lots of AOE damage or the enemy team does not know how to focus one target

Mikael's Blessing: Enemy has strong engage cc (Morgana Q, lux Q, Leona R, Seraphine R)or enemy team has high ap damage

Ardent Censer: build as priority if your team has 3 or more auto attack based
champions otherwise build as boot replacement last item if SOFW isn't better

Staff of Flowing Water (SOFW): build as priority if your team has 3 or more ap scaling champs otherwise build as boot replacement as last item.

Vigilant Wardstone: Vision is one of your most important roles as support and the Vigilant Wardstone increases your control ward cap, stealth ward cap, grants 40 ability haste and 10% move speed. Meaning you can have 4 wards and 2 control wards placed on the map at any time.

Morellonomicon: Cheap grievous and super grievous for when you are going more of a full ap or healthier build.

Zhonya's Hourglass: This item is your nope button you press it when you don't wanna deal with single target enemy burst, or need those few seconds for your team to save you. It makes you invulnerable to all damage for 2.5 seconds which can be invaluable.

Chemtech Putrifier: This item will be your bread and butter grievous wounds item. It gives your allies the ability to apply super grievous wounds through your healing. it is very powerful when you need grievous and it's stats are geared to benefit enchanters well.
The Engo Transformation build
So as you have been scrolling through this guide, I am sure you kept seeing notations to this, "Engo Build" everywhere, but what is it? The Engo build is a transformation build that focuses on soraka abusing her laners in the first part of the game going all out on damage and sacrificing healing, but is building towards healing and maxes W second to transform into her typical heal bot in mid/late game. This build has been found as very fun by most who have played it as they can bully the enemy bot lane all laning phase then transition to a heal bot when Soraka's damage falls off.

Yes you do not get a point into W till level 7 TELL YOUR ADC THIS AHEAD OF TIME SO THEY CAN PREPARE (note: as the player you can decide to get W at lv 5/7 or 8 based on what is needed but the default is 7)

Yes Forbidden idol is your last item (sell boots for it)

Note that you ONLY consider getting boots (Sorcerer shoes) if you can afford them for your first back before level 6. Otherwise you do not get them as they will eventually be sold for a forbidden idol as a last item.

The build is focused entirely on % healing and shielding and yes, no Mythic NOR boots. So you have to be really good at positioning due to lower mobility, luckily Soraka's Q aids her in that department.

The Runes are focused entirely on laning phase damage and wont do much for you late game but most games are decided in laning phase so forcing out as much of an advantage as possible is the point of this build.

If you try this build and you cannot land your Q or E very often, abandon Q max and transition into heal bot (w max) early so you do not become irrelevant

"With These runes you will remember the meaning of fun." -Engo

This build is NOT recommended for beginners but is recommended for a fun time.
Laning Phase
So, you made it into game, you have your build and runes in mind, you got your starting items and you are off to lane with your ADC (after leashing your jungler I assume,) but now what?

Well, the answer is simple, yet complex. In essence, the jist of what Soraka needs to do in laning phase is stack her support item to get the wards as soon as possible, but also bide her time until she gets her mythic item. This is where her playstyle comes in and from what us Soraka mains have come to a conclusion on, is that there are two main playstyles. Hyper aggressive Soraka, and Hyper passive Soraka.

The Hyper Aggressive Soraka playstyle:

The Hyper aggressive Soraka is the spellthief's start Soraka that is literally overextending beyond the enemy minions (often without their adc) to harrass both enemy bot laners at the same time, and succeeds. This is a more advanced strat as it is very high risk, high reward.

Pros
The pros of being hyper aggressive is that you often have your Support item fully upgraded by around 12 minutes if you went for spellthief's (often the time most supports are JUST finishing their first upgrade.) You are also forcing the enemy adc to get behind and lose cs and exp giving your adc an advantage in gold, and you are making the enemy bot lane ping their jungler for a gank meaning you are often freeing up other lanes from jungle harassments.

Cons
The Cons of this playstyle is that you are often very easily flanked by jungle ganks, you are all too easy to engage on if your happy feet aren't up to snuff (you can't dodge sill shots) and if you cannot land your Q for hp regen, you are often poked into a position where you are forced into playing passive until your hp is back up or you are forced to back which gives YOU the exp and gold deficit.

How
So you know the pros and cons of hyper aggressive Soraka laning but how do you do it? well, it is simple... Basically, you just spam auto attacks on the enemy adc to poke them out of csing range whilst trying to focus on landing your Q on them as they retaliate and hit you back. If you get a good adc, they will assist you in poking the enemy adc out. Once the adc is well and truly frightened as to why this enemy Soraka is charging at you horns first and banana's flying without a care in the world, you focus the enemy support and force them out as they often set up the "plays" for their adc. Then once both enemy adc and support are afraid of you, you have achieved lane dominance. at this point your adc should try and hold the minion wave and you abuse bush wookie tactics to continue to harrass the enemy until they back to regain their hp or are forced out of lane for a few minutes. Now you know how to be a hyper aggressive Soraka.

Passive Soraka Playstyle:
as explained by Ulti with some extra embellishment by me:

So maybe you are a little more timid as you are just a little goat in a world of assassins, and you aren't fully comfortable being aggressive until you have mastered your champion. Or maybe the enemy botlane is a hyper kill lane or very bursty and can prevent you from being aggressive. Do not fret, for there is a playstyle just for you that will make you enemies weep. Introducing, the passive Soraka playstyle!

Pros
The main pros of this playstyle is that you play as a turtle, not a goat. You are very safe when [playing like this as you are often ALWYS behind your adc, or minion wave, or both. It is very hard to kill you as well due to having relic shield and you adc's entire hp bar in front of you. Not to mention that you almost never run out of manna because you only really use your abilities reactively to disengage and protect your adc. You infuriate the enemy botlane because no matter how much they poke your adc or you, they just cant commit to an all in because your side usually has more hp due to your healing.

Cons

The cons of this build is that you have relic shield and as a result, are slower to upgrade your support item meaning you can often get behind in gold very quickly and it is hard to recover. You also do less damage in lane meaning less of a chance for your adc to get fed meaning they might not be as useful in the late game. Overall you are a bit weaker, but that is ok because you are safer.

How

You start relic shield for the extra hp and hp regen, occasionally executing minions to stack and level it up. You only really auto when you have a safe opportunity to hit the enemy. Your abilities are always saved to help your adc disengage, engage or escape the enemy engages. Lastly, you just stay behind your team and minions and run towards the champion with the highest peel potential in fights and hope they protect you.
Teamfighting
So, you made it through laning phase and now, you and your team are grouping up for fights with the enemy team over dragons, towers, inhibitors, and Baron/Rift Herald. Soraka is special when it comes to teamfights because she has the ability to completely change the path of an entire teamfight with a single ability, her ultimate.

Mastering Soraka's ultimate , Wish, can be the difference between wining the game, getting an ally fed, getting an ally a crucial shutdown, allowing allies to escape with their life preventing the enemy from getting fed (or more fed), or turning the tides of a losing teamfight. I know it sounds intimidating but the long and short of it is, "If I ult, will it be beneficial or am I healing an ally who cannot escape, wasting my ultimate?" This is the main question Soraka asks during laning phase. But we are here for teamfighting and not all of teamfighting is Soraka's ultimate. There is her positioning, who she prioritizes healing, and when to ult. Lets go over each one.

Positioning:
Positioning with Soraka is easy, all you have to do is hide behind either the carry or the tank. Basically Soraka stays behind the people who can jump to her aid and protect her whilst also staying in the center of her team so she is almost always in range to heal allies or use her actives on them (especially the AOE ones.) Always remember the prime rule of soraka; You protect the soraka, she protects you. So as long as your team is competent and you position properly, you should have no issues with staying alive in teamfights.

Healing Priority
Now you are in the thick of a fight and everyone is taking damage and you have used your actives to mitigate as much damage as possible but your allies are still taking heavy blows, Who do you prioritize your healing on? Ideally you heal everyone equally but if you notice the enemy team is focusing all of their power on your adc or your tank, you focus the person that the enemy is focusing their abilities on. Keeping that person alive as long as possible whilst the enemy wastes all their cooldowns on them will help the rest of your team pounce on the now ability-less enemies or help your team with a counter attack. But what if they are focusing your carry and your tank? who do you keep alive? Ideally, you keep the highest damage dealer alive as long as possible because they are most likely the ones who will win the fight for you. Yeah the tank might die but if only the tank dies and your team comes out alive rather than being wiped because your side had no damage, then I personally would take the win over the loss.

When To Ult
This section is really simple. Soraka has to pick her ult timing carefully because of it's long cooldown. Knowing when and when not to ult is vital for victory on the rift. A situation where you should not ult an ally is when they are almost guaranteed to die. We hardly ever ult a single ally unless we are certain they can get out alive, or come out victorious and if you are unsure, do not ult and save it for when you are certain. Soraka's ult has a bit of risk reward attached to it as well due to it's healing being increased by 50% on targets below 40% health meaning if you wait for your allies to get low on health in teamfights to ult, they get a bigger heal then if you had just ulted before they got low.

In teamfights soraka typically uses her Ultimate after her actives because the actives have a lower cooldown on most occasions. When soraka does ult in teamfights it is usually when their allies are at low health. But if the enemy team has alot of super grievous wounds, it is often better to ult before they get below 40% hp because the 60% super grievous counters your 50% boost and you lose 10% of the ult healing because of that.
Tips and Tricks
Here is a massive splat of many extra tips and tricks for Soraka Ranging from extra bits of info on her abilities, combos, interactions etc.

1. Soraka's E can be used as instant, uncounterable damage, great for cheesy poke.
2. Soraka can heal allies in Mordekaiser's ult, Zhonya's, and any other form of untagetability.
3. Forbidden Idol can be stacked for a fairly cheap boost to heal/shield power early game.
4. setting a metronome for every 15 seconds and look at the minimap or your allies Health bars when it goes off to train yourself to keep an eye on important aspects of the game or if you need to press R and save an ally.
5. Soraka's E can be used to cancel any channeled abilities like Pyke's Q, Nunu's charge and ult, Heciram charge, Quinn Ult.
6. Moonstone Renewer with ingenious hunter make it's cooldown almost perfectly match your W cooldown So it is ALMOST like you have an Athenes unholy grail... RIP
7. Always try to land your Q before healing an ally with W as it lowers the health cost and gives them a little extra healing
