On your 1st trip back home you should be able to buy Mercury's Treads and 1 Sight Ward at least.
??? What? I didn't expect to see this in a guide with millions of views and a 90%+ upvote rate.
Shen has fantastic mobility without upgraded boots and relies heavily on early tankiness for your first Stand United. You're much better off going down the path of Negatron Cloak + Boots if you're that dead set on magic resistance.
You're currently either rushing Sunfire Aegis or Spirit Visage. Rarely do you see these items take a back seat to upgraded boots barring the occasional Ninja Tabi and it's extremely disappointing seeing such a high rated guide advocating for a forfeit of any snowball you've managed to create.
Next, we have the default Greater Quintessence of Magic Resist. I know you go down the whole "this is my preference do whatever you want" shtick in your descriptions, but I'm going off of the cheat sheet here. Why are these set to default? They are incredibly matchup dependent and almost anything would be better off occupying the base slot for any beginner's Shen page.
Why do you skip Defender in your masteries? Sure, it's not the best laning tool - but you're a team-fighting champion. You are designed to control lanes and Stand United on an engage. Defender is going to put in a lot of work for that first Dragon fight and gets even better in the context of people actually rushing upgraded boots.
No mention of Doran's Shield + Health Potion to start? It's basically the go-to in the current meta and puts in a ton of work in a lot of Shen's unfavorable match-ups.
Lastly, I really dislike Frozen Mallet in the current meta. It just doesn't have a place in the shadows of Trinity Force or Blade of the Ruined King and comes up as a constant trap for newer Shen players.

Would go Mogs though.
Here is you +1 ;)
@Ilynx: Updated about the Aatrox match up.
@Arcane: I won't add Vayne as she is an AD carry and even in teamfights you will still anticipate her as such. Im kinda surprised however that you easily won the lane. vayne has the means to destroy tanks with her Silver Bolts and she can be difficult to deal with if she gets ahead.
