Shen is best top lane. he can jungle but his clear sucks. Pick shen when against casters like Riven, Zed. or other tanks like Malphite. When you Hit 6 be constantly looking at the mini map for people to ult and if you do you can use tp to return to lane with out harm. when you go back and buy a giants belt you can harmlessly trade with your lane opponent using Shadow Dash into Vorpal Blade into Fient. Make sure Ki Strike is up to improve your damage out put.

As it draws into late game your job is to split push the side lanes with your ult or tp ready to join your team in the team fight.
