I play in Latin America South server, since 3 months ago, so I'm pretty new in this LoL stuff.
Personally, I don't like closed structures, I always try to break the meta with new alternatives, trying to propose new viables posibilities.

In this case, I bring to you this Sona mid AP guide. My win rate with her is really not bad, my ELO is low yet (Silver 5), but I'm trying, I'm not losing anything doing this haha (well, time I guess)

I explained in the "counter champions section" basically, so I'm gonna write only basics.

Early game: You try to farm as much you can. Sona's last hits are not the best, but if you try with Zilean then you will love Sona. Try to control lane push, use skills to charge your passive and poke with Q+AA when is possible. I recommend highly to keep your passive in stage 2, if your jungler or enemy jungler is near you can use offensively or deffensively your passive autoattack with E for slow your target. I always recommend buy in the first back to base a pink ward, then put it in one side of your lane an keep warded the other side with your trinket. In level 6 or 7 any objective can perish with R+Q+AA+Ignite.

Mid and late game: Remember that your Q has an aura, use it to destroy turrets and charge your passive to strike more powerful hits.
Sona at this points must have Lich Bane at least, with this item Q+AA will deal more than half of the life to a squishy enemy.

Team Fights: Sona has a very powerful ultimate, look for the moment to strike with it. Focus an objective and delete it with Q+AA after your ultimate (ignite if is necesary), use W to heal allies and E to escape/chase. In situations, you can charge your passive with W to save an ally for a powerful damage or with E to slow an enemy in order to escape or chase.

Sona in mid/late game is semi support. Your AP is strong, so your primary function is deal damage. But you have a impressive utility for your team, don't waste it. Other champions goes well with this play functionality, Zilean or Karma are good choices for mid laners with strong early game and mid/late game in semi support function.
