Hi all , I'm Suppi from EUW server.
Here is my first guide on mobafire featuring Sona.
She is my favorite champion in Dominion and she is underplayed because a lot of people think she is weak in Dominion.
But according to kassad.in I manage to reach 2100 -2200 mmr in Dominion by playing only Sona.


Some people already asked me in game a lot of questions, so I decide to write a guide for everyone.

This guide will focus on Top Sona in 4vs4 situation . Sona is not a good 1v1 Bot due to the fact that she can't push lane, but she does great and counter Twisted Fate , Lux because once Sona hit 6 , she can one shot them.

+ Good 1vs1 against low mr/hp characters

Cons
- Bad 1vs1 against gap closer characters
- You need a team
- Squishy early
- No minions clear

I have two set of masteries ( I have another 9/0/21 masteries set but pending for test)

First :

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration : Sona's Hymn of Valor have good base damage so you should take magic penetration runes.

Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist and Greater Glyph of Scaling Armor :In Dominion, you reach level 10 very quickly so scaling armor and mr runes are for me the best but if you want to crush the ennemy early you can take flat mr/armor ,I used to do that when I first played Dominion and it worked against low elo.

Greater Quintessence of Health :You never have enough hp while playing Sona and it gives you early game power for the level 4 fight, but you can take Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed to bring more utility to the team (and it's very good if you play against Janna)

Revive is mandatory for every single champion in Dominion because it's a game changing ability if EVERYONE on the team have it. If you are the only one on the team to take Revive, it's useless so go for Ignite instead.

Garrison is the best support ability in Dominion and it's this spell who make Sona a good tower defender. If you do a good Crescendo with Garrison empowered by Summoner's Wrath and Power Chord up you can 1v2 under your tower without problems (I even get dived 1v3 and did triple kill) , but only if ennemies don't have big gap closer assasins like Talon , Akali

You will reach level 4 before reaching top so better start with the 3 spell to have the speed boost at level 3

That's the most important part :

There is no ULTIMATE build you have to adapt to the situation.

I nearly try everything and my favorite start items are :

Prospector's Ring + Boots + Health Potion you will go for the build 1/2 below. Good hp and ap start.

catalyst the protector + Health Potion + Mana Potion you will go for the build 3 (the most tower defender oriented due to endless substain and lots of hp)


Build 1 : Standard

Explanation :
Hextech Sweeper is nearly mandatory even without trap or vanish champions because you can avoid FACECHECK and save the game more than once. And it gives nice stat even without his passive.

Chalice of Harmony and his upgrade is optionnal but very good if you don't want to be dependant of the health pack , and it provides cdr

Please don't go for Ionian Boots of Lucidity , i saw too many beginner rushing this.
Why is this not good?
Because Sona have good early base damage so magic penetration is godlike on her or even Mercury's Treads for more tankyness is better.
And if you want Cdr just do Hextech sweeper and Athene's Unholy Grail

Another option is to build Moonflair Spellblade instead of Locket of the Iron Solari

Build 2 : Carry Ap

Explanation: If you want to carry the game (don't work versus high elo players or gap closer champions).
Insane damage burst early. Lux , Twisted Fate will cry a lot.

But be careful : good player will know your timer on Q and kill you during the cd.
Bad player will be like : "OMG she takes one half of my life with one spell and one auto attack , better run away" and you will win because you have substain and they don't (same than an aram build)

another cons : mana hungry and you will need health pack. You can build Chalice of Harmony early and sell it when you go Void Staff or upgrade it before the end. 6 slots is hard to reach in Dominion

Another option is to go Blackfire Torch with the new active effect which is very good on sona ap instead of Haunting Guise

Build 3 : Tower Defense

Explanation: With this build you are a nightmare to those who want to capture a point , you have lot of hp
substain , good kite with Iceborn Gauntlet and you can even add a Moonflair Spellblade instead of Locket of the Iron Solari or Haunting Guise.

Chalice of Harmony is useless in this build because Rod of Ages gives you tons of mana.
Cons: You don't have hextech sweeper so you are less mobile and should stay under your tower to defend them.
Pros: Good build to snowball the game early when you have 3 bases.

Sona is underplayed in dominion but not underpowered.

It's true that she is not the best support in Dominion (the best is Janna and far from the others,this is my opinion but I am sure a lot of people will agree with that).

But she is godlike in 4v4 fight and at defending tower with the substain/garrison/tanky/kite combo like neither Janna nor another support will do in Dominion.
