I kinda expected this to impact Jayce a lot but it really didn't. Huh. I'm really not sure what to think on the mana changes (no mana from Biscuits & severe Muramana nerfs) but I'll get back to y'all on that soon.
New Notes on Tear & PoM
If you're in a melee lane, Pressence of Mind is all the mana you need to get through it. No tear, no manaflow, no biscuits, just PoM poke it.
The only exceptions to this is if they're "melee" (Zed, Ekko, etc), or if it's a matchup you just NEED a ton of mana to survive/shove with (Irelia, Talon, also Ekko, god I ****ing hate Ekko, etc).

Before the game starts, plan your runes accordingly and you can get away with good ****. Fit Cash Back or Nullifying Orb into your build for that extra milage you would've missed out on taking Manaflow or Biscuits, rush 1st item rather than delaying with Tear, etc etc.
So you want to main Jayce?
What a coincidence, I main Jayce! Jayce is an absolutely phenomenal jack-of-all-trades, with a kit that seamlessly fits together to create a sense of control and power like you've never known. The feeling of executing a perfect 11 input all-in combo and deleting someone off the face of Summoner's Rift is beautiful and perfect and amazing and I love Jayce so much he's my precious baby <33333~

Ahem, where was I?

Jayce has rune & build variety up the wazoo, range that would make a Caitlyn player cry and brown their daipy, and snowball potential potential that has Katarina players across the face of Summoner's Rift malding and typing racial slurs with more APM than a Korean Starcraft 2 player. There is just so many different playstyles all in one neat bundle in this champ, and that's why I love him when he's cancerbroken and when he's absolute dogwater, Jayce is my true love, and if you like champs that can just do it all, then Jayce is your man.

Do be aware though, he is incredibly difficult, so don't be too mad if you get stomped for like your first 20 games on this champ. If you stick with him and really learn what he can do, you'll have the time of your life, I promise.
That's good and dandy, but what does he accomplish in a team, exactly?
Jayce can poke out melee champions AND ranged champions with good use of his cannon form, while also functioning as an assassin in his melee form at ALL stages of the game. The raw amount of AD scalings and utility in his kit can feel absolutely unfair to play against.

Often times, a good Jayce can be seen sniping ADCs for 60% of their health bar from across the map, and 1-shotting poor, poor midlaners that dare to facecheck a bush. It's the funniest thing to watch them scream and whine like babies in /all chat not knowing you're playing a C tier champion.

Oh, and did you know by 3 items you can see a Jayce just casually knock over any turret in like 6 autos? Yeah, Jayce is just like Yorick, but objectively way hotter.
Weaknesses
Early game Jayce consumes mana faster than Riot deleting the Chronoshift Project (Seriously, what the hell), it's his big weakness that prevents him from being absolutely broken. You need, need, NEED to manage your mana properly. Don't go ham with your abilities, know exactly when you need to use them, and if its even worth it to use them. I promise you, you're going to run out of mana frequently in the early game. He's also restricted to assassin items & some bruiser items, which kinda sucks.

Jayce also has some pretty mediocre waveclear compared to other Midlaners. Sure, you could spam accelerated Shockblast on the wave, but remember that bit about mana? It's best to wait to shove/roam until you've got Dirk + Tear, so you've got the damage AND the mana to expend on it.

Jayce also gets absolutely dogged on by Tanks, he has somewhere around a 30% winrate vs Nasus, Ornn, Maokai, etc. He just doesn't have the raw early damage to deal with them before they get their resists, and you can really only start to build armpen around 3rd-4th item, as you're going to NEED your Eclipse & Manamune as early as possible. This is the reason many Jayce mains prefer going Midlane as opposed to Toplane, 'cause there's MUCH less of a chance to see Tanks go there. If by chance, you do come across a tank mid, God save your soul.

And by far the worst part, Jayce is one of those champions where if you ever, EVER fall behind, you're not coming back. You have ZERO pressure, ZERO ability to do ANYTHING, so it is absolutely pivotal that you must look for a lead and DON'T LOSE IT. Latch on like a Pittbull doing what Pittbulls do, SEEK BLOOD AND DESTROY EVERYTHING.

Also Jayce mains are absolute snobs with superiority complexes. These people have never had to deal with an opinion that isn't theirs in their life. If you're a Jayce main reading this and getting mad, you know I'm right. Know that maining this champ, you may be exposed to them, and it's not a nice experience.
Cool Jayce Quirks!
Both of Jayce's Q is AoE, so if you Q a minion an enemy champion is standing next to, it'll hit them for the full damage & slow!

Jayce's Shockblast can be buffered, which means you can cast other abilities during its animation, which means rather than placing your acceleration gate first, and then shooting your shockblast through it, Q and then E directly in front of you for an incredibly fast empowered shockblast! Also, much like Urgot's E - Flash, you can Q - Flash for an almost impossible to react to projectile, and if you're fast enough, empower it with your gate!

Hypercharge is an auto-attack reset, so you can AA - W - AA - AA - AA for an incredibly fast 4 auto combo! Also, your W does not end if you switch forms, so you can get 3 very fast melee autos, which is useful if you're running Conqueror, or taking early tower plates!

In melee form, if you input an auto-attack command while in range and then quickly knock the target back, your E animation will go through first, and your auto will follow them well outside your actual auto attack range.

Buffering Q and placing the gate second can feel very janky at first, but if you place your cursor over where you want to shoot, start the shockblast, quickly sling your mouse back in front of you, and then place your gate, you will become MUCH more accurate.

Probably one of the best trading tools is using an accelerated shockblast on a minion or group of minions your opponent is right next to, evaporating the wave AND like a quarter of their health bar. Watch them seethe and mald and cope and sneed, you're Jayceing now!

Both Shockblast & Acceleration Gate grant vision where they land. If you shockblast a jungle monster, or place an Acceleration Gate over it, you can switch to melee form and leap onto it, effectively creating a wall hop! Try it when you're running away in a lane, or chasing someone into the jungle!

Jayce's E is now a proper knockback, and while that removes a lot of anti-dash potential he once had, he can now E-Flash to properly insec! Do with that what you will.

Your melee Q animation can be cancelled by any emote (Laugh, taunt, dance, etc). Not in the sense that it saves any time, rather think of Zac's jump sometimes being a very fast walk. Using this, Jayce's Q animation can seem much less obvious to the enemy, and can possibly give you the edge.

Jayce's Acceleration gate gives you a large, but decaying movespeed buff when you're on top of it. If you click just slightly to the SIDE of Jayce, you can place the gate vertically and run alongside it, refreshing the max movement speed for a few ticks. This may seem like a small thing but it really matters when avoiding ganks, that extra distance you gain could be the difference between dying and not.

Jayce has a combo specific to the rune Hextech Flashtraption. If you melee Q while channeling Hexflash, the channel is canceled. Unlike the animation cancel with the laugh emote, the channel cancel allows you to use other abilities in the middle of your Q cast, meaning you can start your E cast while you Q. Chain this with the AA input "ranged melee" mechanic, and that's your entire melee rotation. The kicker is, if done correct, this combo effectively outputs your entire melee rotation in 0.04s; Even though at lvl 4 with just a longsword it does around 300 dmg, according to a training mode dummy, the combo will read as somewhere around 6300 DPS.
Do keep in mind though, Hexflash can only be used out of combat, so it's best to be used out of a brush.

The full combo, Hexflash-Q E AA, is called a Hextap, and there's basically no counterplay to it.
(I included this here rather than the "Combos combos combos" section because of the unique inclusion of Hexflash, and how deep into explaination I went.)

Jayce can shoot 2 shockblasts through 1 gate with enough Ability Haste. There are 2 major breakpoints for this, one at 95AH which requires some finnegling to pull off, and one at 120AH, where Jayce can comfortably place his gate point blank for 2 shockblasts. At 95-119, you're gonna have to shoot the shockblast, wait for it to reach about the max length you can place your gate, and then place the gate to empower it, walk up to the gate and wait for your Q CD to come up again, and then shoot your 2nd one; Placing your gate as late as humanly possible is what allows it to be still up by the time your next Q comes up, but at 120AH that just doesn't matter.

(M) is for starting in melee, (R) for ranged.


(R)- QE
Fire an accelerated shockblast!

(R)- AA W AA AA AA
Fire 4 lightning speed autos!

(M)- Q W AA E
A quick burst of damage, followed by a knockback for safety!

(M)- Q W AA R W AA Q E AA AA
The standard all-in combo. A burst engage, followed by W for the auto reset to proc the cannon passive, shredding resists for the accelerated shockblast and final remaining 2 Hypercharge autos.

(R)- AA Q E W R Q W AA AA AA E
Technically this combo is more efficient, with the cannon passive auto starting off, therefore making the entire combo more efficient, but it leaves you off in melee form which isn't the greatest for any sort of followup. Use ONLY if you're in a bush waiting for a squishy, and NEVER use it if you're running Conqueror, the extra stacks you get in Melee translate way better to your 168%AD scaling Accelerated Shockblast.

(R)- Q E R Flash AA
This one requires much more APM than the other ones. While it doesn't do more raw damage, it is by far the fastest and hardest to react to burst combo.

(M)- Q Flash E
Think of this like an unnecessarily costly version of an Insec. If you call it a Jaycec I will skin you alive. Q to close the gap, flash mid-Q animation to get behind them, and E to knock them back into your team or wherever you want them. It's pretty difficult, so please lab it out in practice tool before you go blowing your flash in your ranked games. Note that this also completely cancels the damage and slow of your Q, so don't rely on that.

(R)- Q Flash E
Q buffering also allows for summoner spells such as flash. You can start the Q animation, flash, and then bring up the gate for a surprise shockblast that is much closer than the enemy could've anticipated. Also, a variation if this is by far Jayce's hardest mechanic, the Arcflash. The Arcflash requires you to start the Q animation, flash to the side, and bring the gate up in front of you. While that might not sound hard, it requires you to have a perfectly offset aim, and move your mouse incredibly fast and accurate.
All About ME!!
This is objectively the best chapter, because I'm the greatest, I love me, I'm 1,700,000 mastery Jayce, and because I main a champion that nobody loves, cares about, or even gives a second thought, that makes me unique and amazing.

I love all things Jayce, you can bet I died screaming when I heard Jayce was gonna be in Arcane (I thought it was sad that they didn't make him an absolute narcissist/douchebag like he is in lore, but that's alright because they nailed him as he is).
