As much as Im seeing nida support these days, why not take ashe down there and harrass with the AA.
I love the aggressive and pokey playstyle.
It plays a little like Karma, except the enemy can't hide behind minions because I have 600 range on my AA.
The slow isn't really enough to deter most enemies, especially when gap-closers are involved.
Damage was valuable even as a support.
Gold income is something I want to study more in depth. The Coin worked well, but more for the sustain than for the gold income. With the amount of poke available Spellthief could generate more income if I can avoid killing minions, so I will have to try it the next time I'm up against a low range bot lane. I should say I rarely upgraded all the way to Talisman (even though the active is really nice) because I realized the value of early damage.
Like on an ADC, buying damage is huge on support Ashe. Essence Reaver became my go-to item once I realized it gave me all the mana I needed (goodbye Tear). I would follow that up with a Ruunans and suddenly I can clear waves like a boss and contribute real damage in teamfights.
The ability to hit the ult is key to being appreciated. That said, you get appreciated much much more if the arrows result in kills than when you're forced to use them to save a teammate from death. That's life as a support. Since it is somewhat unreliable anyway, I tried to use it as often as possible even for low chance cross-map snipes rather than get stuck wasting it as an escape tool.
I ended up switching my masteries and runes to get 18.7% CDR from the start. This means that I only need two items to "max" CDR, usually Essence Reaver and something else. This let me spend only ~1800 on support items (lvl 2 coin, sightstone), then build more like a carry.
My success was mixed to poor. The early laning is very strong, but so far the middle game is pretty weak for me. Things turn around again once I have multiple damage items. I still need to get better at contributing to early teamfights when I don't have damage and can be jumped pretty easy like any squishy carry would.
The build path I have in my head atm is Ancient Coin, Boots, Sightstone. Then either finish Berserker's Greaves or save up for a B. F. Sword to seriously enhance your poke.
I'll try to come back with more thoughts once I have failed at this a bunch more times.
