The first ability should usually be Hail of Arrows in this situation. The slow allows you to land more AA's.
Ultimate
Use ulti in teamfights to self peel.
Use ulti as a counter engage.
Use ulti to snare someone under tower.
Use ulti to dual ADCs. (Stand outside of there range)
Do Not
Use ulti to engage teamfights, as you will be unable to self peel.
Use ulti to iniate a gank, wait until the enemy is running away. This gives your jungler time to move in.
Runes
Movement speed Quints help Varus escape ganks, dodge skill shots, and proc his blight stacks more easily.
Life Steal Quints
2 Life Steal Quints can be interchanged for the MS quints. I prefer the MS for the utility.
Why Pick Varus
2) High kill potential
3) Easy to receive ganks (Ultimate)
4) Team fight pressesce (Ultimate & %Magic Damage)
5) AOE heal reduction
6) Out ranges most ADCs. (575 Range)
Why Not To Pick Varus
Do not pick Varus if the enemy team has a lot of gap closers/assassins. (Fizz Zed Lee Sin Evelyn)
2) Easy to dive and shut down in team fights
3) Over Extending = Death
