Have you considered adding some health regen to the mix? If you take away wriggles and add in for example Force of Nature you gain significant health regen and your chases increase because of the movement speed. It really helps to get early sustain especially if you are up against an AP team or harassers. Also getting a philosopher's stone early game greatly helps to keep your health up from harassers. Late game Randuin's Omen is great since you will be the one trying to absorb the damage. Health regen, armor and health for the Atmogs. Just suggestions.

Just one quick note. If you are going to a healthy Volibear with stacking warmogs and Frozen mallet. Don't be a noob. Volibear has a great health regen rate. to beat people that get bloodrazor during this build you might wan't to consider Force of nature. since bloodrazor does magic damage. it puts this bonus damage to nearly nothing after this item. plus the .3% of extra health regen with 2 warmogs will most likely make you tick 21 Health per second. And you will easily destroy anyone that uses bloodrazor against you. There for leaving you immortal With Itma's impalier and mayb a bit of Ability power for you ultimate. and Majestic roar. i have Killed all 5 people in a 5s group 1 v 5 and destroyed them all.. using the spell Surge. If you use Surge. with your ultimate. you will deal as much damage as an assasin with a phantom dancer and infinites edge. and it will hit all targets. As my role as volibear in ranked matches. i Charge in. take some damage and get out. after your passive has kicked hardly anyone attacks you in a group fight after you took so much damage. they just want to kill squishys. so there for Surge and Ultimate as you run back in. and you will guarantee Victory.

I felt the need to make an account to comment on this guide. Was looking at a bunch the first time I decided to try Volibear. Didn't know anything about him. I decided to use this guide, and make my own tweaks here and there depending on what was necessary.. but..

The very bottom was my first time.

Edit: I'd also like to remark that, when I play with my friend, we always lane together. So I always go with the Rolling Thunder first -- depending on what we're facing, if they try to engage in brush we get a first kill 50/50, especially with my exhaust and his ignite.

Just curious, but does anyone else hit mobs while Stormbringer or the Ionic Spark is active to let the chain lightning finish off an escaping champion? Cause if not, you're missing out on some epic death rage from your opponents.

Yea with the voli buffs in the last patch as well as Ionic Spark being available he is a pretty dominate solo top in the right hands. Ganks on his lane are almost a guarantee with his extra damage and the extra movement from rollin thunder.

i wanted to know what you think about ionic spark now that its available in classic. do you think its good on volibear??

Since no one else has answered your question, I'll take a stab at it.

I have been messing around with the Ionic Spark a LOT since they added it to classic. As a single target DPS item it is not as good as Wit's End, but for dealing damage to multiple targets it is awesome (don't get me started on how good it is when you hit Stormbringer and see this item go off on top of it). It has all the right stats for Volibear: health, attack speed, and an AoE. It is a phenomenal farming item, and combines amazingly well with Sunfire Aegis for minion farming and teamfight damage (swapping Atma's Impaler for the cape).

I have personally stopped getting lifesteal on Volibear, his phsyical attacks are too small (even with Atma's) to make the health he returns to himself substantial the way it is for Warwick or an AD carry, and the health regen from Warmog's Armor (while not amazing) is enough to keep him in the lane once he has enough health to stop bothering with Health Potions. You might consider skipping Wriggle's Lantern and building the Ionic Spark early on to see how you like it.

Volibear needs to be in the thick of things, Ionic Spark + Sunfire Aegis + Stormbringer = a devastating team fighter. It is a fun build to try, and I recommend you do it to mix things up. BUT, in a lot of matches your goal is to burn down the enemy team 1 at a time by focus firing them, so if that is your strategy, stick to the single target DPS items.
