Introduction
This is my second Mobafire guide (my first being a guide for Jax which is called Jax: the Grandmaster of Farm). A few things about Master Yi. First of all, he is extremely fast and his ult makes him very hard to catch. Also late game, he can be a real threat to the opposing team, especially when he is fed. All in all, he is an extremely potent champion who thrives on kills (see his ultimate Highlander for more details). As this guide progresses, I'll hopefull address the major aspects of the Wuju Bladesman, Master Yi.
Pros / Cons
spaaaaaaace |
Pros
+ Master Yi can catch just about anybody or run from just about anybody with his ultimate Highlander + Easy to get fed with + Early game attack speed can mean a lot of dead enemies + Once on a roll,it is very hard to bring Master Yi down + can be built AP as well (though i prefer AD/attack speed) |

Cons
- very few cons to Master Yi - very susceptible in team fights - dies easily when focused -is susceptible to ranged and sometimes AP heavy characters |
Master Yi is a very basic champion and can be fed very easily. Boots and the 3 health pots are what I'd do over a Doran's Blade since early speed with Yi is useful. Aim to buy Zeal and Phantom Dancer as soon as you can because the sooner, the better. Early game Master Yi is quite potent with a Phantom Dancer, it also makes him extremely hard to catch and even harder to run from. Infinity Edge is a must have because you start doing multiple critical hits per second, which is always a good thing. The second Phantom Dancer is just there to make things get nasty. When you've got Black Cleaver you can get Attack Speed bonuses, and Armor Reduction. When coupled with the critical strikes from Infinity Edge and the huge attack speed from the 2 Phantom Dancer, you are pretty much set to steamroll the other team.
This is possibly the most important aspect as Master Yi. One simply must have a high CS (creep score). The more CS, the merrier. Master Yi lives and dies based on his CS because he is fairly squishy, so he needs farm to carry him through the game. When playing against a team with junglers, especially those like Rengar, Skarner, and Kha'Zix, you should always proceed with caution, setting up wards to avoid big ganks.
Master Yi is highly potent, yet just like any other champion, he is susceptible.
If you are fed, then most matchups are fairly easy. Master Yi has most of his problems with AP carries or powerhouses like Anivia, Karthus, Janna.
Master Yi won't have a problem if he can get fed, but AP powerhouses can kill him from longer range, and since he will take a lot of magic damage, unless he his dealing a ton of physical damage rapidly, he will die. That is why as Master Yi, you let the tank do the work while you finish up.
Another key part of playing Master Yi is to avoid getting focused. Also, one can't get cocky if you are fed since if you aren't careful, you can end up in a sticky situation beyond remedy.
Now, let's move on to good team chemistry.
Here are three good setups if Master Yi is not solo top.
Master Yi + Alistar
Master Yi + Janna
Master Yi + Karma
These work well because they all let Master Yi farm well, and they all support Master Yi.
Alistar can keep dangerous opponents away from Master Yi with his [[Headbutt.
Janna blows people away.
Karma forms a solid backup for Master Yi to rely on.

Master Yi vs. tanks
One other setup that is hard for Master Yi is taking on tanks.
Dr. Mundo, Olaf, Alistar, and Shen are his chief problems, especially late game.
Dr. Mundo and Olaf are hard to bring down, and Alistar typically has the most anti-Yi build in the game; Shen is just a general problem since he has an emergency ultimate that ruins most of Master Yi's fun.
So always be careful when taking on tanks.

Master Yi does see a little bit of ranked play.
One of my favorite ranked team compositions is as follows. Note that this is assuming none of these champions are banned.
Master Yi solo top
Lee Sin jungle
Karthus solo mid ( I would say Kassadin but he is usually banned; however, do Kassadin over Karthus for AP
Draven or some other ranged AD carry
Janna support

I hope this guide give you a little bit of insight into the art behind the Wuju Bladesman, Master Yi.
