Take the Fleet Footwork Scaling Runes. Not much of a threat to Yone. Throughout the lane she will simply regurgitate her abilities and go OOM, and generally doesn't have enough damage to kill you. Being that Seraphine has no escape, you can constantly trade with her when your E is up, and I'd suggest timing your Fleet Footwork + E to dodge one of her abilities before diving in for your trade. Without her JG to help her, she is essentially going to be feeding you the entire laning phase. If she tries to ult you into her team, you can easily ult away since it will make you unstoppable. You can also ult into her before her ult hits since it will essentially guarantee that you hit her since she is standing still during the cast.
Cho'Gath
Take the Fleet Footwork Scaling Runes if you both are mid, and take the Conqueror Scaling Runes if you both are top. Most games, Cho'Gath should be an easy lane for you. His Q is very easy to dodge with Fleet Footwork, and he can't do anything if you jump on him with your E. His only threat is his silence, since it can prevent you from snapping back with your E, and his ultimate since it is a brainless click ability that will 1 shot you if you are too low of health. However Cho'Gath will rarely ever be able to get you low enough health to ult you unless he has his JG with him or you're letting his poke hit you, so overall you should be able to easily win this lane. Cut Down is also a great pick, especially if they have at least 1 other tank since Cho'Gath's ultimate gives him a ton of health over the course of the game.
Ahri
Take the Fleet Footwork Laning Runes. Yone vs Ahri comes down to a skill matchup. Both champions have the tools to outplay the other, though post 6 Ahri will have a slight edge over Yone due to the mobility she receives. An inexperienced Ahri player may simply spam her abilities whenever they are up which will result in her going OOM very quickly. If you are fighting this type of Ahri, then simply wait for them to use their abilities and then engage with E > Stacked Q > W > Auto Attack. You can also engage an Ahri when her abilities are up, though engage behind the minions since she can charm you before you Stacked Q into her unless she is caught off guard from the engage and can't react in time. Against Ahri, I frequently make short trades by using my E and stacked Q combo onto her and snapping back immediately once the CC ends so she can't charm me in time. This will guarantee that you win every trade, and once she is low enough you can look to finish her off with the same combo + ignite. Post 6, do the E > Stacked Q > Ultimate combo. This guarantees that she can't dodge your ultimate with her ultimate. If you are struggling in the lane, rush Wit's End as your first item so you do not feed her.
Katarina
Take either Fleet Footwork Rune Page if the enemy comp isn't very tanky, otherwise take either Conqueror Rune Page. Yone vs Katarina is another skill match up. Generally speaking, most Katarina players aren't experienced enough to be able to counter you effectively, so you should have an edge over her in the early game. However if Katarina rushes BORK, she will gain a stupid amount of damage which you should certainly respect. It can be easy to become overconfident winning against a Katarina in trades but then getting caught off guard by her BORK power spike, so keep an eye on if she is rushing that item. If she is instead rushing into an AP first item and is becoming a threat, you can consider rushing Wit's End as first item, or at least rushing Negatron Cloak as one of your first back items. In the laning phase, it can sometimes be hard to trade with Katarina since she can easily dodge your Stacked Q with her E (dash), so preferably wait to engage until she wastes her E, and you can also go in with only 1 stack on your Q, so if she dashes during your engage you can stack it and then use your Stacked Q to knock her up. Post 6, remember that you can interrupt her ult with your Stacked Q or your own ult, so hold onto these abilities if it looks like she wants to go in for an ult. Most Katarina players try to get fed off of roaming, so if she is roaming a ton it may be a good idea to deep ward your lane and spam ping the respective lane, while also getting a CS advantage during the time she wastes roaming.
Ryze
Take the Fleet Footwork Laning Runes. Laning against a Ryze mainly comes down to wave manipulation. Since Ryze can quickly crash your wave in, you have to be careful on not recalling when he is still present in the lane since you will lose a lot of farm. Similar to most ranged match ups, levels 1-3 you need to play safely so that by the time you hit your level 3 power spike you can begin to trade. While Ryze has a lot of poke, it is fairly easy to dodge. If you see a rune under yourself, just step away from the rest of the minions so you don't fall victim to the chain reaction. Trade with your typical E > Stacked Q combo, and you can snap back before he roots you or stay aggro depending on how fed he is. Do keep in mind that you can interrupt Ryze's teleport with your Stacked Q or your Ultimate.
Pantheon
Take the Fleet Footwork Laning Runes. Bone Plating is also a viable alternative to Second Wind due to the nature of Pantheon's burst windows. From my experience this is arguably Yone's biggest counter at the moment which you can expect to occasionally lane against, and he is my current perma ban. The only silver lining in this match up is that you outscale Pantheon, and his tendency to roam post 6 gives you opportunities to farm safely. Against a Pantheon in the early game, there isn't really anything you can do except try your best to farm under the turret and beg your jungler to come help you. Throughout the lane, make sure to keep an eye on Pantheon's passive stacks. His combo does ridiculous damage even with no items, so do not bother trying to trade unless you know his W is down and he has no stacks. If Pantheon does happen to W you during your E, you can snap back with your E right before you're stunned in order to get back to safety. The best time to walk up to farm is when Pantheon has no stacks which is generally after he throws a spear at you, though some Pantheons may simply hold onto all their cooldowns and stacks knowing you can't walk up. While Pantheon likes to roam post 6, I'd suggest simply pinging for your allies when he goes MIA, and staying in the lane to safely farm while you can. Make sure to deep ward the lane to know which direction he is roaming.
Sylas
Take either Fleet Footwork Rune Page. When facing a Sylas, mainly avoid getting grabbed by his E2 as this can lead to you getting comboed and taking a big chunk of damage. To do this, simply hide behind your minions, stand out of range, or use your E and you will easily be able to avoid it. Just safely farm for the first 2 levels, and once you hit level 3 you can start intelligently looking for short trades. Avoid extended trades since he can easily out sustain you. Ideally look to trade when his abilities are down, most notably his E since he can avoid your engage and then E2 once you snap back to your body. Getting Executioner's Calling on your first or second back is also highly recommended since he has a ton of healing built into his kit which makes it more difficult to win trades. Mainly look to farm the early game without getting too greedy, as you will more so shine in the mid to late game while Sylas has a more dominant early game.
Qiyana
Take either the Conqueror Laning runes or the Fleet Footwork Laning Runes, and I recommend running Bone Plating due to her short burst windows. Consider grabbing Exhaust if you repeatedly struggle with facing Qiyanas, and use it once she tries to 1 shot you. Qiyana right now is my perma ban since she is a fairly common pick at the moment, and more often than not will get very fed throughout the game. She overall is a fairly difficult matchup who is quite strong in the current meta. Her burst can be pretty deadly, and she gets a massive power spike once she grabs Prowler's Claw. In order to avoid her poke, simply try and stand away from the minions. If she lands her ult on you, you're instantly dead, so make sure to not stand near walls, or to snap back with your E right as she's beginning to ult you. To trade with her, use your typical E > Stacked Q combo, though also keep in mind that her grass enchant can make her go invisible so it can be more difficult to trade while she has it up. Additionally, when Qiyana grabs an enchantment she does a short leap which she can use to dodge your engages, so look to trade when she has recently used her leap, or engage with only 1 stack on your Q. Mainly look to farm the early game, and once you get Mythic + Infinity Edge you should be able to win 1v1s against her unless she's really fed. In general like most Lethality champions you will outscale her heavily, so just don't throw by giving her an early lead and you will be fine.
Malzahar
Take the Fleet Footwork Laning Runes. Malzahar overall is an easy match up for Yone. While he will constantly poke you, once you dive on him there isn't much he can do to stop you. I'd suggest using your E to dodge his silence and then engaging from there. I'd also suggest grabbing QSS early on since Malazahar's only threat to Yone is his ult which can lock you in an uncomfortable situation. While you can break his ultimate by snapping back your E at the right time, this isn't a very reliable counter and so grabbing QSS early on is your best bet. Overall just farm the early game while making frequent trades with your E > Stacked Q engage. It is also quite easy to pop Malzahar's passive on Yone, so simply Q or W Malzahar once his passive is up so it won't minimize your engages.
Yasuo
Take either Conqueror Rune Page. A Yone vs Yasuo lane typically comes down to a skill match up, though personally I think Yone has a slight edge over Yasuo in the mid to late game. While Yasuo has the tools to outplay a Yone, it is easier to outplay a Yasuo as Yone. The most reliable engage I use is if Yasuo has his Q stacked, I stand away from him and once he throws it, use my E to dodge and then engage from there. If Yasuo tries to dash his Q onto you, you can also avoid the stun by casting your E and recasting it right when he dashes onto you, and from there you can duel him since he won't be able to dodge your abilities by dashing through you. If Yasuo tries to ult you, face your ult toward him and right when he ults, you will get your ult off and teleport behind him. This however is a last resort if you don't have your E to dodge his Q. If Yasuo windwalls, it will block the projectile of your Stacked Q, but to counter this simply get close enough to Yasuo to where you will dash through the wall and knock him up.
Xin Zhao
Take the Fleet Footwork Laning Runes with Bone Plating + Exhaust, or whichever rune page is suitable against the enemy Top laner. Xin Zhao I'd thus far consider to be Yone's biggest counter in the game, though thankfully you won't often be laning against him unless someone knows this dynamic and counter picks you. If you are in the lobby and you suspect you will be facing Xin Zhao, immediately plead your Top laner to switch with you. There is absolutely NOTHING you can do against a Xin Zhao unless you frequently coordinate ganks with your jungler, which 99% of the time won't happen in solo queue (particularly low elo). Laning against a Xin Zhao, at the start of the game, try your best to only last hit minions, though if this isn't resulting in the wave pushing toward your turret, go as far as to give up CS to look for a freeze. Even with no items, Xin Zhao can quickly burst you down in a few combos, and once he gets 1 kill your lane is quickly over and he will snowball dramatically. Try to farm underneath the turret, and if you fall below 50% HP, just recall or else he will turret dive you and you will be dead before you can blink. Never try to trade with Xin Zhao unless you know he has no cooldowns as he will always out damage you in the early game. His W, the long ranged narrow skill shot, is what you mainly want to look out for. If he lands the W on you, he will most certainly dash onto you and either kill you or drop you below 50% HP, so try and dodge it either by running to the side or using your E to do so. The only drawback to this engage for Xin Zhao is that it is predictable and after diving you he has no escape, so you can hopefully coordinate with your jungler to gank after he lands the W on you. Xin Zhao however packs the same punch just by simply walking up to you for an engage, so run back whenever he begins to approach you. I wish I could say "just farm until the mid game" but you most likely will have horrible CS in this match up if not a ton of deaths as well. This is why I highly suggest switching with your Top Laner, particularly a bruiser being that Xin Zhao cannot abuse them as easily. If your Top won't switch though, then dodging is a smart alternative since you will most certainly lose this lane and it will essentially be 4v6.
Twisted Fate
Take the Conqueror Laning Runes with Second Wind and Revitalize, or Unflinching if they have more CC than just Twisted Fate. Twisted Fate overall is an extremely easy lane for Yone, and it is very difficult to die to him unless you are ganked. Simply keep the wave on your side of the lane, and once Twisted Fate uses one of his color cards, go in for an extended trade with E > Stacked Q > Auto Attack W > Auto Attack > Q. There will be literally nothing he can do to you during your trades, so be sure to abuse these trades heavily. Even if Twisted Fate doesn't use one of his color cards, you can still go in for a quick trade, and right before he throws his yellow card at you, snap back with your E and you will be safe. Twisted Fate's main threat is not to you, but the other lanes. Make sure to deep ward your lane, and if you see Twisted Fate running toward the jungle/river, spam ping the respective lane since Twisted Fate most likely is going to ult and teleport to them. In 90% of instances, you do not want to try and follow him to go assist your team since he can get there much quicker + give vision of you and you will more often than not lose more than you will gain. Rather, exploit these frequent roams from Twisted Fate by pushing in your waves and getting a huge CS lead over him so you can carry the game. However if the enemy team is looking to secure an objective, then I'd suggest trying to assist your team as soon as possible in the imminent fight.
Talon
Go either Fleet Footwork Rune Page. Overall Talon isn't too much of a threat to Yone unless he happens to snowball. His only advantage he has over you is level 2 when he can use his W > Q combo on you to proc his bleed which can do a considerable amount of damage. Once you hit level 3 though, you can easily dodge his W with your E and engage from there with a Stacked Q, and he won't be able to out damage you during these extended trades. The main threat Talon poses is to your other lanes since Talon players generally abuse his wall jumping to frequently roam. I'd suggest deep warding the jungle such as behind the dragon/herald in order to keep an eye on where Talon is roaming + keep an eye on the enemy jungle. You can also simply deep ward your lane and ping the respective lane relative to which direction Talon is roaming.
Veigar
Go either Conqueror Rune Page. Veigar is one of the easiest, if not the easiest matchup for Yone. His kit is built around his stun cage, which is pretty much impossible for him to land on Yone considering you can E2 through it, or Ult through it. This means that you can begin harassing Veigar very early in the game, and deny him the farm he needs to scale while also picking up some kills. Being that Veigar is squishy, you can all in him regularly and pretty much always kill him with your combo unless he has Zhonya's. To trade with him, stack up your Q and then go E > Stacked Q > Auto Attack > W > Auto Attack. If he drops his cage around you, try and poke him through it, but once he's out of range you can snap back safely. If he is low enough and you have ult, you can also ult through the cage to finish him off, though ideally ult after you knock him up with Stacked Q.
Pyke
Take the Fleet Footwork Scaling Runes or the Fleet Footwork Laning Runes with Bone Plating + Unflinching. You can also consider taking Teleport especially if your team doesn't have Teleport and/or if the enemy team doesn't have much wave clear. Pyke mid, after having received his 11.5 nerfs, is overall not much of a threat and you will rarely ever see him. Unless the enemy jungler is snowballing, this will be a very easy lane for you. Pyke mid lacks any sort of wave clear as well as a way to safely farm, so throughout the laning phase you can frequently harass Pyke whenever he walks up to farm so that you can deny him as much farm as possible. Do be a little cautious at level 1 though, as Pyke's Q does more damage than your Q, so normally you will want to poke with W > Q level 2+. Pyke mids however generally don't get fed off of CS, but try and snowball with post 6 roams. With that being said, once Pyke hits level 6 you should start fast pushing the wave repeatedly to put pressure on Pyke so that if he does decide to roam, he will lose a lot of farm and his turret will constantly be under assault. The only time Pyke mid will really be a threat is if your team is stupid and ignores your pings, or if the enemy jungler is strong and can exploit your fast pushes by ganking you. Since Pyke can fake roam with his W, I'd recommend warding somewhere in the middle between Mid and Top/Bot so you can see where Pyke is roaming once his W wears off. Don't expect to get fed off of Pyke in this lane, but rather to get fed off of CS. In the mid to late game, you can also consider exploiting Pyke's lack of wave clear by split pushing, which is why Teleport may be useful to take. I'd recommend using your E sparingly since good Pyke players will look to engage once your E is down. It is best to only use your E safely, such as to dodge a charged Q hook, his E, or his ultimate. If Pyke's E is down however, then you can look to finish him off with a classic E engage. A good time to ult is right as Pyke is using his E, since it will pretty much guarantee your ultimate will hit unless he flashes or uses Prowler's Claw.
Graves
Take the Fleet Footwork Laning Rune Page. Graves mid can be pretty cancerous due to his heavy poke and wave clear. He can also snowball to insane amounts of damage just from getting 1 kill, especially if he is going a Lethality build which a lot of Graves mids like to do. Early game, I'd suggest just safely farming and trying your best to stay healthy throughout the lane while taking good recalls and not letting him deny you XP. He gains a lot more from 1 kill than you do, so do not make risky plays. It can be difficult to trade with Graves since he can dash to avoid your Stacked Q, so if you are going to trade, I'd suggest engaging with only 1 stack on your Q. Graves should win most trades against you though, so I'd recommend only trading if his abilities are down or if you have your first item. Overall my strategy for this game is to just passively farm until he roams/recalls, then shoving in the wave and recalling to not be denied much CS. You can also consider taking TP if your team doesn't have a TP since it is good against these farm heavy/poke match ups that try and keep you out of the lane.
Kassadin
Take the Conqueror Scaling Rune Page, and consider taking TP if your team doesn't have TP. Kassadin can be pretty annoying, not so much pre-6, but post 6 he can snowball quite quickly, and scales into the late game very well. Generally speaking, a fed Kassadin beats a fed Yone as well since he can easily dodge your skill shots and mash R in your face to kill you in a few seconds. With that being said, the ultimate goal when facing a Kassadin is to prevent him from snowballing to the best of your ability. This means denying him farm and harassing him whenever he walks up, while also spam pinging if he roams since often times it will be your teammates that feed Kassadin as opposed to you. You probably won't be able to get fed off of Kassadin since post 6 he has really high mobility, but try your best to get fed off of the wave while simultaneously denying Kassadin farm and watching out for Jungle ganks and you should be fine.
Xerath
Take the Fleet Footwork Laning Runes and take Unflinching if they have a lot of CC. Xerath is one of the easiest match ups for Yone. Similar to other squishy mages, there isn't really much he can do once you engage onto him, especially if he doesn't conserve his stun. The best time to engage is once he is trying to land his stun on you, dodge it with E and then go in from there. You can take extended trades with him being that as aforementioned, he cannot stop you once you dive him. When he is charging up his laser, this also leaves him vulnerable for your Stacked Q or your ult, so that is another opportunity for an engage. The only threat he really has is killing you if you stay in the lane too long after letting him poke you, so don't get greedy and recall if you begin to get low. If he does happen to ult you though, dodge it with your E1 and exploit the extra movement speed to dodge the rest. You can also E and ult him to interrupt his ult and get back to safety easily.
Ezreal
Take the Fleet Footwork Laning Runes. Chances are you will probably take the wrong runes since Ezreal mid is extremely rare, and doing so will just make this match up all the more difficult. If you see an Ezreal mid, he is most likely mid to exploit the insane amount of poke Ezreal has to harass you out of the lane and build a farm advantage while occasionally picking kills off of you. This kind of situation is really cancerous for Yone, especially being that Ezreal has a built in flash to get away if you ever decide to go all in. The best course of action is to just start Doran's Shield and passively last hit while using your E to dodge his W or any projectiles coming toward you if you have the W debuff on you. His poke is really stupid, so the best thing you can do is just try and avoid as much of it as possible otherwise you will find yourself recalling every minute and losing tons of farm/XP. Rush Berserker's Greaves and then Vampiric Scepter or vice versa, as Vampiric Scepter will help give you a little bit of sustain. If you decide to go all in, either wait for him to blow his E, or bait out his E before using your Stacked Q.
Dr. Mundo
Really powerful in the current meta as a reliable engage to soak up a ton of burst. A lot of teams wait for you to engage as Yone which is quite risky, but having Mundo lead the charge makes it so the enemy team blows their CDs and groups up around Mundo for you to then land a surprise ultimate. He can also solo dragons with fair ease, so you don't have to lose farm in leaving the lane.
Ekko
I've had great success queueing with an Ekko one trick. One of the combos with Ekko is his AoE stun which can easily set up kills with your ultimate. Additionally, his own ultimate acts similar to your E, so you can both make aggressive plays and snap back without you leaving the JGler in the fight. This safety net can allow you both to make aggressive turret dives or attempts to steal objectives without putting yourselves in much danger.

The purpose of this guide is to provide information on all of Mid Yone's lane match ups and how to deal with them, as well as some information on Yone's synergies. While reading my take on how to deal with certain matchups won't immediately make you a good Yone player, it will at the very least help you transition into becoming a decent Yone main quicker than my transition was going from a Pyke mid main to a Yone main. My advice regarding how to deal with these matchups is relative to my own experience + information from high ranking Yone players. Overtime I will add more and more match ups to the guide as I face them. Expect daily updates.
