You got a similar effect, it just looks to me like you didn't adjust the turbulence on the plasma effect (that's what it's called in gimp) which is how I made my color transitions so smooth.
I can give you a link to the brushes I used for the sigs (because that's where most of the awesomeness came from tbh).
It looks great, you could take a piece of **** and make it into a sig and it would look good.
