Riot's buffed the other keystone masteries on the PBE. Enough to make people switch from Thunderoord's? Maybe not, but we'll see. Deathfire Touch still has its place on champs with AOE or abilities that can consistently reapply it. Eg Zyra, Brand, Swain, Malzahar, and Anivia.

They got mostly number buffs and the numbers arent why Thunderlord's Decree is superior. It's superior because it makes trading a no brainer. It's superior because it's also much more reliable and noticeable.

It's superior on Poppy, but I think Grasp of the Undying/ Strength of the Ages is better.
Thanks to winston gergill (muh Valentine in 2016)for the sig!

Being noticeable doesn't necessarily make it superior, and I wouldn't say that it's more reliable than say Deathfire Touch which is easier to apply. It's superior in most cases because of its numbers. Specifically, its base damage is so much higher than Deathfire Touch that it's the best one to use in lane when people haven't built up a lot of AP or AD and when it's likely that you will only be hitting one or maybe two targets. With games being shorter, there's more emphasis on being strong during the laning phase, so Thunderlord's Decree is the clear choice. However, to say that it's not about the numbers is incorrect. Right now, it's simply that Thunderlord's Decree 's numbers are superior in most cases. If the numbers change, so could people's preferences.

Swain did much better with Thunderlord's to snowball in lane. Dft might become an option now tho

The reason why Thunderlord's is so good is because of the early pressure it applies, giving greater snowballing potential (which is really important in the current meta).
Thank you Byron for 2014's loudest laugh up till today

not to mention the extra 200 some odd damage or so that you get late game with thunderlords.

I like that riot is buffing the other keystones rather than nerfing thunderlords, but i still think it might be slightly overtuned. I'd rather see higher scaling lower base damage to slightly discourage supports from taking it all the time (although it would still be good on damage supports)

First of all, let's just get this out of the way... Strength of the Ages is flat-out not better on Poppy. It really isn't better for anyone unless you're a tank with health scalings, like Nautilus or something. Even then, Grasp of the Undying is still functional on them, and Supportilus likes to run Bond of Stone from time to time.

Now, Grasp of the Undying on Poppy is... perfectly fine really. There's really no reason against using it. Her passive ranged auto-attack counts as a melee attack despite it being ranged, so you don't lose effectiveness with this mastery. Furthermore, she is the team's frontline/peel, so she'll be in combat for a fair chunk of a fight. The only thing is that Poppy really doesn't get that tanky. Dr. Mundo and other tanks that do run Grasp build straight 6 defensive items, whereas I've found that a 2 offensive item 3 defensive + boots build on Poppy is the most ideal, and that doesn't leave her as tanky as some other threats that run Grasp, meaning she doesn't abuse the mastery as well. It's a different playstyle I suppose, and each mastery complements a different player.

Despite all that, Thunderlord's Decree is just simply better in the grand scheme of things. The burst it offers on Poppy in lane is just crazy. In fact, Poppy's burst in lane is really strong, and it is amplified by running Thunderlord's Decree . Being able to proc it on targets also is not an issue, as Poppy boasts multiple multi-hit moves. Each part of Q counts as a hit, and both impacts on Heroic Charge, the initial impact with the champion and the impact with a wall, proc Thunderlord's Decree . The snowballing potential that Thunderlord's Decree offers Poppy is just too great to give up for me. But really, there's nothing wrong with running Grasp of the Undying if you like it.

Thank you to MissMaw for the signatures!
