I've done the wraiths thing basically every game as 
Riven when I go mid (the current meta has every lane take jungle experience if at all possible). I imagine Yi can do this surprise level 2 first blood with great success as well.
This of course doesn't work against other mids who can grab wraiths easily like Diana, since they will hit 2 at the same time as you and get enough base stats to survive your burst.

This depends on which top laner it is and which side you are on. When you're purple, some top laners can solo Golems without help and give Wraiths to mid. I know Riven can do Golems at level 1 with only 1 health pot consumed if she started Cloth 5, which lets her do the staple level 2 cheese for first blood. Don't recall who else can do golems without significant loss of consumable potions.

So Warlemming pioneered a strategy to pretty much ensure First Blood as mid AD Master Yi, which involved grabbing Wraiths to speed up experience gain for level 2. He'd then stack for
Unfortunately, the upcoming jungle changes will render this method unusable/impossible. Was hilarious while it lasted though! So before the jungle changes, maybe you'd like to give it a go, and post your results ^^

tldr; I didn't say War pioneered taking wraiths to get to level 2 quicker. Just the idea specifically for AD mid Master Yi to stack Double Strike and kill someone at level 2. Like Veng mentioned, it's somewhat like old Rengar top lane with Double Golems.
