Some people do that but I just build pure support. Unless you are racking up kills and assists though, after HoG and Philo get ruby crystal, ninja tabi, finish zeke's, then aegis, shurelia, locket of iron solari or randuin, and it should be over by then. Always keep a ward slot but if you are having an end game teamfight and have enough gold for a 6th item, situational (randuin or solari, whichever you didn't get before; maybe fon; maybe rylai or some other damage items, etc.)

Just to report back I played some games with Elise and can't figure out what im doing wrong. I don't do a lot of dmg and I seem so squishy. I die instantly in team fights.

I find it to be incredibly hilarious how OP instantly turned down the advice and opinions of people giving logical explanations of why mastering 2 champions isn't the smart way to go and instantly jumps on the side of someone who agrees with his inquiry, blindly following potentially bad advice without questioning it.
No, you shouldn't be jumping into solo queue with the intent of using only 1-2 champions. Why, you ask? For starters, you're not as experience or as skilled as Gbay99. The fact that you made this thread shows that. You can play one champion incredibly good, but seeing how you don't have the time to hone your skills as opposed to the general competition, chances are, you'll be okay at playing that champion. Sure, some champions will be your specialty, but you shouldn't fully rely on those champions because of one thing;
Counters
You can beat people who are bad at playing champions that counter yours, but if you go against someone who's on equal footing as you or better, you're going to lose your lane.

I'm not sure what's you're current status and what you have decided.

Top lane: Jayce, Jax, Irelia, Malphite, Shen.
Mid lane: Katarina, Diana, Twisted Fate, Elise (Well TF not maybe for "ELO hell" or dunno. He is the same as a jungler. He can gank the hell out of lanes)
Jungler: Warwick, Lee Sin, Maokai With these you are not going to be focusing on getting yourself fed and carry the team, but you are focusing to get your team as fed as possible.
Bot: Not really sure, but get duo que with friend. Learn 1 combo and play it. I have started to use Vayne + Nunu & Willump combo with my friend and we just can carry the whole team, if they are doing bad.
Those are my pennies. Some may agree or not, but that worked out for me damn well.

I carried myself to 1600 elo by playing only:
shaco, irelia, anivia and lux(pretty much)
sometimes i had some fancy ideas or just some champ i wanted to play like ap xin-zhao(don't play ap win zhao, he sucks) or udyr or some other champ i suck with, cuz why not. but over 90% of my games were with thoose 4 until i hit 1600.
