My suggestion is skype/vent/teamspeak unless you sit next to each other, and play customs. You focus on watching him, don't duo-lane but watch him and let him learn from mistakes. You can even go separate teams so you can lane against him, go easy but punish hard when he steps out of bounds?
If you for some reason want to follow my ranked journey to gold, you can do it Here.

Agreed sir.
I wish it took skill to get to level 30 and it wasn't just handed out.

+1
I have a frined that haves two accounts on lvl 30... And he plays SOOOOO bad...
What your friend needs to know :
1) Last-hitting minions is his priority!
2) Don't get too greedy and chase the enemy under his tower or into his jungle without wards
3) BUY WARDS!! WARDS WINS GAMES!! (I need the caps... sorry... I just don't understand why soo much people just don't buy wards ever xD)
I'm a newbie, but thats what I learned from my friends and guides, and it made my skills become a lot better.
Sorry about the poor english xD
Cya
Can't force it.
It's only a game, your friend will learn when willing. Best thing you can tell him is "Get to level30"
Best thing to do is write a short list of tips he can keep beside his keyboard.
Here's the simplest stuff:
1. Buy sight wards regularly
2. Always pace, never stand still
3. Look at the minimap
4. Last-hit minions as much as possible for gold
Everything else I could think of depends on your ELO level.
For example: Only focusing on last-hitting is only needed if there's a jungler. If there isn't, it's better to push the lane so you can more freely harass, roam, or recall.
Take the time to answer any questions he has.
(Here's my answers towards "Why's" at the tip-list.
1. So you can put wards around river to warn you of surprise attacks
2. If you stand still, enemies can aim their skill-shots or stuns better. If you're pacing, you're more alert AND they're less confident about whether or not they can hit you.
3. So you know where everyone is, or isn't. Don't rely on your teammates to tell you.
4. More gold.

/agree with everything Jun said.
Also, make sure he's buying the right items. You've no idea what people will build when they have no idea which items to buy. One of my friends built AP/Tank/Support Ashe....

He never played a MMORTS before, I had no MMORTS experience before LoL either, but a friend thought me and I am prud to say that I'm a pretty good player now. Problem is I don't remember how he made me into a good player.
Rite now I suggested to my friend to read the following guides:
beginner guide
5 champs you should know
But I'm not sure he will read em (he had the 5 champs one for like 2 weeks now and hasn't even looked at it)
Anyway, any suggestion on how to turn him into a succesfull LoL player?
He had some good results with garen so far... but having success with garen is like winning the special olympics.
Any suggestion will be deeply appreciated
