:) I like the idea Matt. What about having a feature where members can enable the profanity filter? I always have the language filter on when I play LoL, perhaps younger members (or older ones) would also like this option available.
@jhoijhoi, yeah we'd like to do that :) The caching has always been the problem with allowing members to configure how the site appears to them (profanity filter toggle, ignore user, time zone, etc)... With the optimizations and restructure I've been doing, we're very close to being able to support this on the site. In fact, I've almost entirely removed any HTML caching for members, relying only on data caching :) It still needs some optimizing but we're very close.
If you guys have any other ideas of things you'd like to be able to customize let me know, we may be able to implement them soon :)

You need to log in before commenting.
First of all, the filter is disabled if you are logged in. It only applies to guests and spiders.
Second, this does not reflect a change in site rules. We are not (currently) going to be cracking down on cursing at all. We just need to block it from public view. However, intentionally trying to get around the filter or to otherwise break it WILL be considered a breach of site rules and we will take action against this behavior.
Basically just carry on as if there was no profanity filter :)
Due to the way caching is handled on the site, there may be some accidental crossovers while we smooth things out. If you see any words being filtered out while logged in, or not being filtered out while logged out, please let us know!
We are going to have to remove profanities from URLs for both members and guests. This means that if the title of your guide / blog / thread / video / stream contains a profanity, we will have to change it to remove the profanity entirely and there may be some issues with broken links to old content as a result. This is particularly the case for blog articles which do not contain an ID on the URL. I will do my best to work around it. The titles can stay as is, only the URL itself will change.
If you have any questions ask them in this thread :)
