Yep, the last thing you said is correct. I'm not really sure what the point would be of removing your own default upvote, but it's possible. Works the same way on reddit.

On Reddit you can upvote or downvote your own post just as you can every other post, the fact that everyone else can do it too means you're not gaining a point advantage over other posters. It automatically upvotes your post so you don't have to go through the effort of upvoting every single post after you've posted it.

And I don't know why you would want to remove a vote or downvote your own post, but the option is there, as it is for other posts.

Someone fill me in, when did "that's how reddit works" become a valid argument on the MOBAFire commenting system?

Well Reddit's commenting system (the use of points) is considered the best because the best posts are the ones that users will see first, and as everyone sees those top posts (rather than everyone seeing different "newest" posts depending on at what time they see the thread), there's a lot of discussion revolving around those posts, but I don't see what the point of adding that to MOBAFire was when comments are still by default sorted by time rather than by points. And I don't see much value in looking at the highest upvoted comments on guides either, since discussions (AKA the entire comments section) take place over very long periods of time rather than over 1-2 days like Reddit threads are, so if you're going to be responding to any comments you'd rather look at the newest, most relevant ones rather than the ones that were posted months ago.

@Vapora: It just offers more options (as well as the ability to reply to comment threads directly, not chronologically, which tbh is the most important feature of the new comments.

The ability to vote just gives people a little more power in deciding what content to see. Plus, it's nice when you post a good comment or review and it gets upvotes. ^_^ Not really a downside here imo.

@Latest Legend: It's not an argument, but it is a precedent for a pretty enormously successful site that's been doing scored comments for longer than we have. Maybe having a default upvote on every comment is a nice placebo for users to feel like they're contributing (though not progressing, since MF doesn't have a total Karma score like reddit). It also gives the option to change your vote on your own comment, which seems fairly useless to me, but again I don't think it really hurts to have it there.

My guess is the main reason reddit has it that way is so that users gain a little bit of karma by participating even if others don't vote on their posts.

If this voting thing is really important to you guys I can talk more with the staff about it, but to me it just seems like a bonus feature that's not really harmful at all.

Well I don't have a problem with it, I just think the point system might be a little redundant for MOBAFire in terms of functionality, though I agree it's nice to see your posts upvoted.

As for having no downsides, I'm not too sure I agree since I would argue the points system gives people less incentive to +Rep. The cool thing about post points is that it's so quick and easy to upvote someone's post, but I would've rather that had something to do with the Rep system rather than being Reddit karma without the cumulative karma, since now if you see a great post that you want to reward in some way, the option that most immediately jumps out to you is to upvote it and move along, while previously it was to +Rep it (which in my case was an option I rarely remembered about). It feels weird to have both the points system and the rep system on one site, since both their purpose (aside from being able to also downvote posts) is to reward good comments, but the points system right now is probably overshadowing rep since it's quicker and more visible. And the ****py thing about that is that Rep is meant to be the more important of the two since it adds up and eventually promotes you to better titles and ranks, while points, the most obvious of the two, is actually the least important since it doesn't really do anything overall.

I mean at this point I have enough Rep that I could happily live without ever getting +Rep'd again in my life so it doesn't affect me, but I just don't think it makes much sense to add Reddit's point system to a site like this when it serves no practical purpose but takes the spotlight away from the existing Rep system. I would have liked it if upvoting posts at least automatically +Rep'd the poster without forcing me to wait for the popup that I have to then press "Ok" for before I can continue browsing.

Some feedback as an author. With this new threaded comment system, I won't know which comments are upvotes or downvotes. In my new guide, I have applied comment to vote but I can't be 100% sure which comments are meant as upvotes or downvotes.

Simple example;
I can go upvote a guide with message "trash build, would never build again -1" as a meme but nobody else (especially random readers) won't know I meant it as a meme and I actually upvoted the guide. I still can't read or understand the layout sometimes but on top of that I now can't see which comments are meant as upvotes or downvotes for the first 20 votes.
