Felt like writing a story

I've only made one proper short story, though I've been meaning to submit it to a few magazines for a while now but keep forgetting. I did read it on the radio once, though. My Computing teacher is (oddly) a published Sci-Fi author (my English teacher directed me to him) who has a few books, who gets paid to give writers advice. He gave me a few pointers and advised me to try and get it published. I always lack inspiration or base of a story. Once I get one, I can write for hours. Getting an idea for a good story addles me more than anything.[/quote]

The topics my teacher gave us to do for this essay were quite bad, hard to find inspiration to write on such garbage topics. 2 of the topics were: "Mother" and the other was "winter". I mean really?
