Tosh, did I do or say something to warrant you being so rude to me? Just asking. I found it interesting because as a wealthy student living in Australia, I don't have to deal with a lot of issues the simulation brings up, and it simply raised awareness of those who do live day by day.

So you honestly think this is how it really is? The fact that you have this disillusion that this is even a decent simulator is very insulting for those of us that actually had to climb out of the poverty level. And holy ****, the amount of **** this thing brought up about not unionizing and what not was VERY aggravating. The union ripped a HUGE chunk of my paycheck when i worked my first dead end job. And what does this simulator say when you choose not to unionize? "DERP! I GUESS YOU'RE JUST TOO SCARED TO START A UNION CAUSE YOU DONT WANNA LOSE YOUR JOB! LOLZ". Yeah, no. here's the bottom line, cupcake; The union FORCES you to join. The union FORCES YOU to pay for membership, otherwise your job might become "Unsecure" (aka, you get fired immediately). The union FORCES YOU to go on strikes, even if you don't want to. Even if you win a strike, they feel entitled to add 10-50 dollars more onto your union dues when all the strike did was raise your rate by $.04. And what did the union ever do for me? Flood my mailbox with "PLEASE VOTE IN THIS POLITICIAN SO WE UNIONS CAN KEEP UP OUR GOOD WORK OF TAKING YOUR MONEY :B". Yup. 7/hr part time WITH 200 chunked out of my paycheck for union dues. Geez! I'm so happy unions exist. I know some unions are good, but honey, the time of unionizing being a good thing is long gone. It's all a political schtick now.

Even then, there are so many loop holes people can abuse nowadays to survive (and VERY comfortably) at the minimum wage rate. it's scary to know that you actually think this is really how it is at the bottom of the barrel.

Also, I think the levels of immorality in this thread are astounding. You'd really throw a child off a boat for your own luggage? Wow.

From what I've seen, Tosh is a prick, but a justified prick most of the time.

You are a ****ing idiot
You had lots of unprotected sex
You chose not to have an abortion even though you can't afford a child
Now you're broke and alone
Is your situation 100% your fault?
**** yes it is.

Tosh, I never had the union option :P But thanks for informing me. Edit: I also realise the simulation is not entirely realistic. There are a lot more things that happen in everyday life that isn't factored into the simulation etc etc ^^

Lost on day 29 'cause my kid needed shoes.

Doesn't phase me much. I'm living in the state with the highest homeless population so it's mostly "whatever" to me. If I can't pay my **** and I'm homeless, there's plenty of services to at least help. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't worried though. I'm a much better spender than the simulation though, as well as being younger and unattached from people. <_<

This game was kind of easy, but I'm used to living in the way the it describes. I have food stamps, get housing assistance, cheap health care, and at the end of the day, I still feel guilty about buying anything I don't necessarily need. I can't even buy a candy bar without justifying it in some way, and never buy anything "just cause".

It was also surprising even to me that affordable housing is only 30% of your income or lower. Wow. I've never been in a place where housing didn't account for at least 75% of my income, even when I had roommates.

Some other things like not calling in sick to work when I should, pitching in to help friends with money, buying lottery tickets, buying name brands.. Well, these are things that I simply can't afford to do. Missing even one shift means I can't pay my bills.

To answer your question, no, I don't have a backup financial plan. Well, not a good one. I can't afford it. I currently have $12.96 in the bank and $30 on hand. I just got paid today, but I had to pay bills. The rest will (hopefully) get me enough gas to make it through to next week. My backup plan is, if all else fails, I can move my little family back to my mother-in-law's place. It'll be cramped, but at least we won't starve. You can call me stupid for not "planning ahead" or whatever you like to call it, but think about your backup plan. It probably cost you some amount of money.

What a statement this game makes about ripping off the poor. I know firsthand that banks will charge you as much as they can when you're poor. My old bank charged $10/month if you had less than $1,000 in the account at all times, and I'd get overdraft fees ($36 each) because bills would be a little more than I anticipated. I tried to get them to just decline the card if there's not enough money in it (something you'd expect from the get-go), but they wouldn't do it. I switched banks, and aside from the $10/month fee, haven't had any problems like that.

While I'm on a tangent about banks, last time I went into my bank, the banker tried to sell me full-coverage insurance. I have the lowest coverage (and lowest price/mo.), and he said, "Well, what if you get in an accident and they won't cover it, what then?" Well, I guess I don't have a car then, but I can't afford to double my premium for any reason. The money isn't there. He was also trying to sell me life insurance (luxury), and also belittled me for having to file bankruptcy last year. He said it was "stupid" to file for bankruptcy for anything less than $100,000 and that I should have just paid. How will I get a house loan now, after all? Yes, I should have just paid $20,000 in collections I had going against me, that if I didn't pay or file bankruptcy, they could legally come into my apartment and take away everything that I own. It's not like I'd be able to afford a house loan anyway. So yeah, no thanks. THAT guy could do with playing this game. Not everyone makes $50k a year + benefits.

But wow, yeah. Yeah, it is tough, but I think that's why I play video games so much. It allows me to escape from that for a little while and just relax, de-stress. I don't run from my problems (I have a job, go to school, have medical training, actively seek employment in the field, just no luck so far) but I admit that escape is a necessary thing for me.

Even playing that stupid game stresses me out.
