What's so bad about FT? I love it. It has great humor, epic, szenes, great charakters a good story. ALl what you need or not? o:

He isn't having pressumptions about you because you watch Fairy Tail. It's because you rated it 10/10.

I was like you once, blinded by bias. I remember my first post in this thread where I overrated Katanagatari and suggested people Sword Art Online and Mirai Nikki to people lol. Searz and I don't remember who else slapped me on the face for that. But they were right, my opinion was just biased, and biased ratings are stupid and misleading.

Now I'm starting to be careful on how I discuss an anime. I mean for example, I'm a diehard fan of the Monogatari Series. I love it. But if someone asks me whether he should watch it or not, I'd tell him that although the art and comedy are fairly decent, maybe even good, the ecchi and fanservice aswell as silly banter might not suit one's standards.

Finally a good explanation! So maybe I would give Fairy Tail 10/10 at the moment because I haven't seen so much to compare? I gave Mirai Nikki a 10, too. I think when I've watched more Animes the vote will change and I will start better thinking. Thx for the answer! I think I will try to think better which vote I would give. :s But I'm impressed that so much wouldn't give FT a 10. You know in this one forum it is in the charts the first one so I thought it was good. Maybe I should start making my own opinion but I liked it thought.. :s

It's old having to say this but:

Go Watch the following then come back here and tell us what you think:

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Cowboy Bebop
Shingeki no Kyojin
Code Ge***
Madoka Magica
Evangelion

One thing I noticed about you Cuddowls is that you never adjust your suggestion list according to people's taste. Always the same FMA:B, CC, SnK, NGE, Bebop and Madoka.

Seriously dude, do you really think Bludes would enjoy Evangelion? He rated Fairy Tail a ******* 10/10. You should suggest him Hunter x Hunter even if you think it's bad. Simply because it matches his taste in anime from what he posted.

And stop with the Code Ge*** suggestions in general, really. It's not bad at all, I know. But it's really not for everyone.

That's a good point Yaya.

Now the thing about Code Ge*** is this:

You, Baka and Searz are not giving it enough credit. It's like you all watched it but never even thought about what was occurring to really get how wonderful the story is. It's complex even though at the start of every episode we get narration that literally spells out what's happening. The anime isn't just about war geniuses doing what they do best. It contains many motifs and symbolic elements as well as a story of loss, friendship, alliance, war and love.
People might say "we don't want any of this, we only want the awesome war strategy" but those people are missing the whole point of anime as medium in general.

Exactly what I was gonna say!
Well put.

Cuddles, for the love of god(whom I know you love dearly), differentiate between your own personal preferences and critique.

Searz, have you read the manga Kamisama no Memochou? I'm about to start watching the anime version, so I thought you'd have an idea about whether the plot is good or bad.

Sorry, I've no idea.

It looks okay-ish, but it's really not my style to read ecchi/romcom-y series.
I'm a plot person :)

Actually, it has some decent humor at times. It's not as bad as Cuddles is making it out to be.
Of course, I haven't seen more than a few episodes of the anime and have just been reading the manga instead, but I'm pretty sure I have a good idea of how bad the anime is.

Fairy Tail isn't terrible. It has some good art and funny humor at times, but that's the manga. The anime has some pretty average(at best) animation and when one of the biggest positives are removed like that you're not left with a lot..

If I were to rate Fairy Tail I'd probably rate it at 5/10 for the manga and 4/10 for the anime.
The story is laughable. It's really bad. But that's exactly why I read it, to laugh at how bad it is :)

It was ****ing hilarious when Grey died, because I predicted exactly what was gonna happen.

It's just my taste.

I think you, lil' guy/gal, need to learn to differentiate between personal preference and critique.
Or well, learn about critique in general really..

When you use a scoring scale like X/10 most scores you give out should be around 5 to 8.
Why?
Because 5 is average, and it's more common that a series is average than it is that it is bad or great. It's that way with most things in life.
When 5 is the most common rating for all series, why would I say that you should probably rate it at 5 to 8 then? Because people have a tendency to recommend good series to others, hence the better ones get watched more than the bad ones.

But honestly, I don't think you should even give it a numbered rating at all. Since you're clearly inexperienced with critique and critical thinking you should really try to stick to more vague ratings like "I liked/disliked it" and then describe what you liked and what you didn't. And not just "I liked the humor.", try to elaborate on why you liked the things you liked and why you disliked the things you disliked.
Good luck learning critique.
The moment a religious person unknowingly calls his own ways stupid: "And lol. I highly doubt you have magic powers. If you proved it I would believe you, but since you 'refuse to', I choose not to."

Thank you for the extensive advice! I just saw the title and wanted to write a bit didn't care about good critique just wanted to share things. I will care about "why and because" in the future. Thx!

Searz my friend, if I was to review Code Ge***, that is what I would say about it. That is a critique. It is a critical analysis of the anime. That is not preference. Don't understand? Read my review of The Disappearance oh Haruhi Suzumiya in which I state why the movie is amazing even though it has no Haruhi in it while you see every fan in the entire world constantly requesting to see more of the anime which has Haruhi in it all the time.

Quoted:
The Suzumiya series has been an intriguing thing for me. The order in which the episodes aired was confusing at first. The plot was never the best part. I had the most fun watching the club just running around having fun, the baseball episode being my favourite. Haruhi would be the driving force for each episode. She would order the club around and they would have no choice but to comply or the world would end.

This movie is nothing like that.

First and foremost, the most discernible thing about this movie is the lack of Haruhi. Instead of employing Haruhi as the driving force behind what occurs, this movie instead utilizes Kyon and Yuki. We see Yuki in a brand new way. She now has feelings, crying and laughing. She is what sets everything in motion, not Haruhi. We now see Kyon reacting and changing as he goes through a dilemma that nearly drives him crazy. We see the effort he puts into escaping the trouble he falls into, as he goes through a journey of self realization.

This movie is a fresh and innovative addition to anime as a medium. Portraying previously bland characters in new ways. Apart from the near perfect plot, only problems being very slow pacing at the beginning, the movie has wonderful music and animation is of consistent quality throughout the movie.

This movie will satisfy die hard Haruhi fans and will surprise others who did not like it to such a degree and it is by far, Kyoto Animation's best work yet.

If you don't like my review of the movie then read this extremely reputable person's review of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Basically: Telling me to separate critique and preference in that situation made no sense, try again.
